  1. Yes, that is exactly the path that I used to follow, but after using Macs from right back to the Plus, I grew weary of the entire “house of cards” collapsing after every new update. Guess, I’m a little long in the tooth now for chasing rainbows, but one day my unicorn may bring me the the thing that I definitely cannot live without. I already have a stack of stuff that promised to be the next big thing - that never happened! ;-)
  2. Not come across this with Native and Logic on my Mac, but that's probably due to me refusing to update the Apple OS and just stick with what I know is working. I shall look out for it, and thanks to your post will be able to try your suggestion to remedy it. Thanks for the info.
  3. Probably the best thing to do - I just had another look at your video, but full screen this time. Instead of what appears to be a glitch in the User Interface MCU update, there is a bunch of glyphs that looks like Klingon scrambled into the red line along the top of the screen. That is not normal! Shame the usual fix it routines didn’t work. Good luck.
  4. Darn, that routine usually manages to breathe some life back into the hardware. I realise that you think it may be hopeless, but as mentioned by “HonestOpinion” in the post above, if you keep on kicking - it may just fire up. Also, when attempting to do these procedures it is really really important to have only the Line 6 Updater running on your PC. Almost anything else running in the background can interfere with this USB voodoo! As the saying goes - “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again”. Sorry - can’t be anymore assistance than this.
  5. If your PC fails to recognise your LT over the USB, turn off the Helix and disconnect the USB cable from the LT the PC. Reboot your PC and power up your LT while holding down FS6 & FS12 until it enters “Safe Boot” mode, and then reconnect the USB cable to both. Now you can continue to follow the advice given by “HonestOpinion” in the bullet points 5 and 6 above. Hopefully, your LT should appear in the Line6 Updater and you can attempt a reinstall of the firmware. Hope this helps/makes sense. Good Luck
  6. Firstly, ensure that the version of HX Edit is version 3.10 - if not download and install that and check again. If it was already 3.10, before you made the update, you should have made a backup of the HX Stomp and when the update completed the unit should have restarted and rebuilt the presets. Then you should have performed a “Factory Reset” on the HX Stomp and then reload your backup. If this didn’t happen - do the reset now. Hold don FS 2&3 while turning the power on. if this doesn’t reveal the new additions to the firmware, perform a re-install of the firmware then load your backup. Hope this helps makes sense.
  7. There could be many reasons for the "hiss". It is difficult to assess without knowing the complete setup. You also say this is happening on your headphones. Is the noise there when you playback through the Eris 5 monitors? When you play back music from YouTube, that is not a great reference for audio - the quality is not always that good, it may be coming from there. The audio playback from the Mini enters the Helix on USB 1&2 and bypasses all of the amps and FX. You need to trace things one at a time. If your Variax sounds O.K. my guess would be that it is not the Helix. You need to investigate a little more. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  8. With any update process there is an element of risk - Helix is computer for guitar audio, a very specialised one, but a computer nonetheless. If you think this update routine is "risky", then you really wouldn't have liked it in the early days of Helix firmware updates. This a total breeze compared to some previous updates, especially when the core system was updated and "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" popped up on screen, even though this was a documented part of the process, along with the message "THIS IS NORMAL. Breathe deep, everything is fine. You're almost there." Needless to say -panic ensued! After almost every update there seems to be a bunch of people who for some unknown reason have a glitch in the update and blindly post "update bricked my Helix", and "I don't expect this with a $1,000 effects pedal" - I guess some folks never read or follow instructions. It gets to a point where this is such a common occurrence, that it starts to become tedious to post the same information (as that you got from Tech Support), over and over again. A simple search usually would reveal the countless times users on the forum have posted the how to fix your "bricked" hardware. The "attitude re-adjustment" comment is aimed at those few people, who seem to want to lay the blame at the door of Line 6 for their failure get their hardware to update. Line 6 don't know the configuration of every PC and Mac in the world, and expecting a software update to go flawlessly on a possibly modified machine is totally unreasonable. People don't have to update. Although, they do, because Line 6 gives us all these new features - FREE!. Therefore comments such as "I’m kinda mad at Line 6" are beyond ludicrous. Good to know that you got your LT fixed, and thanks for posting the instructions provided by Line 6 Support - it will be most helpful provided the person with the stricken Helix knows how to search for a clue. Great first post - welcome to Helix club. Enjoy
  9. These are the Artists Presets that were released with FW v3.0. This link will give you the lists of every factory preset change from Helix v1 right up to 2.8 http://benvesco.com/store/line-6-helix/ + With this link you can find every amp listed, and what it is actually based on. https://helixhelp.com/models File this info for future reference. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  10. Hi, I’m going to guess that when you say “the UK service agent”, you a referring to E&M Electronics, but that is not the point. If your Mic input is faulty and your Helix is still under warranty, or even if not, to be able to use it it will require a repair. Usually that means sending the item to an approved repair centre, so you will be without it for whatever length of time it takes to do the repair. Sadly there is no way round that. Strangely, you say that this Mic input is a “function that has never worked”, but you only discovered it just before Christmas 2020. If you found out then, why did it take until now - some 4 months later - to post on here asking about a warranty repair. Also, if you never tried until Xmas last year, how could you possibly know that it “has never worked”? Very odd. Anyhow, no matter, you will be without the hardware until it gets repaired, or you could try finding a rental until you get it back. AFAIK these guys rent out a Line 6 Helix LT. https://fatllama.com/rentals/london/hire-line-6-helix-lt-guitar-processor-76725005 Hope this helps/makes sense.
  11. Hi Matt, I have never encountered anything like that happen. In fact HX Native is very stable running in Logic on my Mac. I also have Reaper, Studio One, GarageBand, Tracktion, among others for testing purposes, and Native seems to function as expected in those. I haven’t used Cubase since way back on the Atari 1040 ST, so I’m unable to test this for you. For HXN to simply stop working in both DAWs is extremely odd. In situations like this, my first thought is - “what else has/might have changed since the last time it was opened?” There are so many variations of Windows 10 around, it may be something in the OS has changed or inadvertently been modified. This should be reported to Line 6 Customer Services ASAP - raise a ticket through your account to make them aware of this. It also may be advisable to check with Steinberg Tech Support directly, or any Cubase user group to see if there are any other reports of this happening.
  12. You already have the solution - your Helix. Your PreSonus Eris E5 monitors can be connected to the XLR or 1/4” Jack outputs on the Helix, your Variax into the Helix and the USB hooked up to the Mac Mini. Use Audio/MIDI Setup app on the Mac and select the Helix as the Audio In/Out device. Then the audio from iTunes, YouTube, GarageBand or any other DAW will be routed to your monitors, or headphone socket on the Helix. Park the Tascam or stick it on Fleabay. See USB Audio page 68 Helix Owner’s Manual - Rev E Hope this helps/makes sense.
  13. Yes - if you have 2 hardware units they both show up in HX Edit - it’s been there quite a while, but if you don’t have 2 HX products it goes unseen. Cool thing to have though - very awesome!
  14. Hi, Some very interesting sounds going on in there. I think I may have detected a little snippet of "Set the controls for the Heart of the Sun" in the "Chewing a Brick" track. It all rather put me in mind of some albums by Fila Brasillia, Baby Mammoth and Bullitnuts (Google - Pork Recordings). Also, early William Orbit Strange Cargo recordings or even the band Elephant Talk (Head). It's certainly a long way from Golden Earring, Focus, Alquin and Kayak - although, you maybe too young to remember those guys. Ik wens je het allerbeste voor de toekomstige projecten.
  15. This might be a little late for you now, but regular forum contributor “HonestOpinion” posted this shortly after FW 3.10 became available. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  16. Great first post - attitude re-adjustment wouldn’t go amiss. You are not going to like this, but... first rule of Helix club - never do an update before an upcoming gig! If you were using a tube rig would you not bother to have a back up? Plus all the usual excuses - such as the USB cable works fine with my printer are not actually relevant here. This is sort of stuff exactly why I said I am going to stop posting “get out jail free” instructions for folks who want blame everyone else for a “firmware bricked my Helix” nonsense post. And you’re kinda mad at Line 6 - yeah, right! Enough - I’m outta here!
  17. Nu komt de aap uit de mouw! Yay! Ah! There is the clue - “decades” - cables can, and do sometimes fail. Also, I’m very happy that you have managed to fix the problem, that is good to know. Now maybe you can have some fun with the new toy and your MIDI system. Enjoy!
  18. Don’t Panic - It is very rare that a glitch in the firmware will actually turn your device into an paperweight. You mentioned that you were updating your Helix LT to the latest v3.10 firmware, but didn’t say what version was already installed. The reason I mention this is because, IIRC, the “boot failure” is actually part of the 2.80 update process, when the main system core was modified. It seems to me that this happens when trying to update from firmware versions prior to the core change. If you type :-3 into the search function on the forum main page it should return stacks of instances of this “error”. In fact it was such a big “known issue” it was documented in bold red text on the release notes for 2.80. Step 3a - See link below. O.K. Let’s try this to see if we can “kickstart” your hardware into update mode. Remove all Line 6 software from your computer especially the Windows drivers and then restart your computer. Make sure to turn off the power to your Helix. Unplug the USB cable from the computer and Helix. Hold down FS6 & FS12 and the turn power on and when Helix logo appears, quickly release both foot switches. Leave it powered up. Download the and install latest HX Edit v. 3.1(with all the drivers) Reconnect the USB cable to Helix and computer - Do not use a Hub. Ensure that HX Edit is not open and running. Find and launch the Line 6 Updater and re-install the v.3.10 firmware file. Hope this helps/makes sense. https://helixhelp.com/release-notes/helix/2.80.0 No guarantees are given or implied, you do this at your own risk. If it doesn’t work, raise a ticket with Customer Support.
  19. Try Global Settings -> Ins/Outs -> Send Retrn 1 (on page 1) and then Send Retrn2 (on page 2) Helix Effects Owner’s Manual page 39. 4 cable method - full diagram on page 8 same manual. 4 CM Template included in the factory presets on your HX FX hardware in the “Templates” section. Hope this helps/makes sense
  20. Oh, you must be referring to: Nine Inch Pills - (Nine Inch Nails ambient sound as it sometimes known), which IIRC, has been in the factory presets since right back in the beginning of the Helix, and I think it may still have been included in the v3.0 firmware. The link I gave to Ben Vesco (Malhavok) has a link to download old preset/setlist files. If you can’t find it there! let me know and I will trawl through my back library and dig it out for you, if you really like it. Ultimately, the best thing to do, is to learn how to craft your own patches. As it has been pointed out so many times before on here, if you grab a file from Customtone, your chances of it sounding exactly as you expected are virtually nil. Even if you had the same guitar, strings, pickups, monitors and listening space as whoever created it, it will never get close. Your playing style, and technique will be fundamentally different. Welcome to Helix - enjoy. EDIT: Another great resource to bookmark for Helix info and insight is: https://helixhelp.com
  21. LOL. I could never get it to track properly, not like the Roland. With the MG2 all the MIDI is derived from the single audio source and the software has to decipher that into individual notes. With your Axon and my old GR-33 the pickup is detecting the notes from each string. This video may be of interest to you. Enjoy!
  22. Mmm... Your original post said "confused..." Now I'm confused. I don't understand why you had to change the extension on the file name for the preset file attachment to .pdf, it is normal to just upload the .hlx file (see attached). I don't understand what you are try to achieve with this preset, because the path for the guitar input seems to work with the compressor and 3 different overdrives into the Mandarin amp amp, vintage delay and plate reverb. Also, for instance, if I send a backing track from my DAW (Logic) on USB 3&4 it playbacks through the 2 EQs the deluxe comp, rotary drum, delay and reverb. The things that I don't know are the functions of the Send and Returns, and that's the confusion. On the guitar in, the first thing before the volume pedal is a Send block - It never comes back into the signal chain as far has I can tell. Later in the guitar path is a mono FX Loop, which when I check it out, cuts off the guitar signal because I have nothing in the loop. The same thing happens with the signal from the USB inputs, when it hits the FX Loop before the Leslie - the signal ends there for me. Obviously you have some external processing going on with the FX Loops, I just don't know what that is. All the 8 Snapshots set to function as I would expect on the guitar path, but again when a Snapshot switches the FX loop I lose the audio. The join which you highlighted on the screenshot is simply a mixer merge point for the USB and Guitar paths. There is also a Looper block at the end of the audio path, but it doesn't seem to have been assigned to any of the Snapshot or Stomp switches. If you are not using it - delete it. Then you have a couple of MIDI patch changes that are set as instant commands from the Snapshots that seem to be normal, so why you are experiencing a "cacophony of midi-sounds/signals", I'm not sure. If that was coming from Jam Origin I would think it was normal because the tracking could be bad, but from your AX 100 it should be fine. The original post also mentioned Helix as a DAW controller, but at the moment I can't see how that ties into the preset. You must investigate further and it might be helpful to show a diagram of how you have the hardware hooked up. Hope this makes sense. EDIT: I have my studio monitors on the XLR output from the Helix, as you mentioned, but you can select what you require from the Global Settings In/Out EverySynth C24.hlx
  23. Apparently not - if you seem to think there should be more in the factory presets. ;-) Here is a very old quote from Digital Igloo, (Chief Product Design Architect, YGG, Line 6, Ampeg), when someone asked about what is in the factory preset lists. ”We add/remove/swap/change/tweak presets pretty much every FW release, some more than others. Unfortunately, any list would be out of date quickly.” IIRC - there is a forum user on here (Malhavok aka Ben Vesco) who was keeping track of setlist changes in Firmware revisions. You may want to check this link, although it only goes to FW 2.8. http://benvesco.com/store/line-6-helix/ Hope this helps/makes sense. Oh, yeah - another quote from Digital Igloo - “All presets suck!”
  24. Hi, I keep saying that I will stop doing this, but here we go again. Once more from the top! Firstly go to the "DOWNLOADS" menu at the top of this page and from "-ALL HARDWARE-" select HELIX then go to the "-ALL SOFTWARE-" menu item and select HX EDIT, now select your Windows system from under the "-ALL OS-" tab, the click “GO”. From the next page you can select HX Edit 3.10 for your HELIX. Then you will also need the Firmware 3.10 Flash Memory. On the page you will find the Line 6 Updater version 1.20 - you will need this too. Download all these items to your computer and note where they are. Then: Disconnect the USB cable connecting your Helix to the computer. Boot the unit into "Safe Boot" (Update Mode) - switch off the Helix, press and hold Footswitch FS6 and FS12 (MODE + TAP to the right) then power up your Helix. Reconnect the Helix to the computer, preferably trying a different port than before. Don’t use a USB hub - some ports on the front of a PC can function as a hub. Launch the latest Line 6 Updater, and ensure that HX Edit is not open and running - in fact try not to have any other applications running in the background as this may interfere with the update. If the unit connects, attempt to reinstall the firmware - Select "Offline Mode". Your Helix hardware unit and current firmware version should now show up in the window, click on the dark green coloured band and you should now have the option to select a local file - point it at the Flash Memory file you downloaded and let it get on with the update. If the unit does not connect, close Line 6 Updater, connect to a different USB port on the computer, preferably with a different USB cable as well, and relaunch Line 6 Updater. If the unit then connects, reinstall the firmware as above. If the unit does still not connect, please try a different computer. You can also try to reset your Helix, does it still show the resetting message? If so, switch off the Helix, press and hold Footswitch FS9 and FS1 then switch on your Helix again. No guarantees are given or implied, you do this at your own risk. If it doesn’t work, raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  25. Potverdikkie - I have never had the Jam Origin MIDI Guitar work correctly, and I also have an old Roland GR-33 gathering dust in the corner of the studio. I gave up on all of that, but many others seem to have everything play nice together. Maybe if I had something like a Godin I may try again. As I stated previously - this can be a steep learning curve, and it is possibly better to get each item working correctly with Helix and the DAW. As you might say - "lets onder de knie hebben" I wait to hear of your ultimate success.
