  1. Dunno, but some are reporting that they can’t launch GarageBand on Macs running Big Sur.
  2. Hi Marc, There is a guy in this thread “ebodave”, who mentioned that he could not get GarageBand to load with the latest version of Helix Native. He didn’t say if there was an error message such as the one you have reported. He has not posted again to say if it is fixed, therefore it may be best to open a ticket with Customer Support to make them aware of this problem while using GBand and Big Sur. It must be some specific clash with the version of, Native, GarageBand, and the new Mac OS. I checked my older version of GB running under High Sierra with the new Native, and all is fine. Apologies - I cannot be any more helpful than this.
  3. Outstanding piece of detective work there HO, if this forum could award 5 stars, you would have them.
  4. Hi, But did you actually perform a restore - it is noted as a recommended procedure. Building a new patch, without completing the update routine may simply highlight a communication issue with your PC+. I don’t have a PowerCab to troubleshoot this for you, but “HonestOpinion” is familiar with them, therefore I would check out the thing that he’s suggested in the post above. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  5. From the Helix 3.10 release notes. Big text and of it some in red = probably quite important! Anything else I should know? Yes. We STRONGLY recommend performing a factory reset AFTER UPDATING to 3.10 and THEN RESTORING YOUR BACKUP. (Backing up is part of the update process). Here's how to perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! Helix Floor/LT: While holding footswitches 9 & 10 (bottom row, 2 middle switches), turn on Helix Floor/LT Helix Rack: While holding knobs 5 & 6 (2 furthest right knobs below the screen), turn on Helix Rack HX Effects: While holding footswitches 6 & TAP (2 farthest right switches on the bottom row), turn on HX Effects HX Stomp: While holding footswitches 2 & 3, turn on HX Stomp HX Stomp XL: While holding footswitches C & D, turn on HX Stomp If that was not bad enough the notes on the HX Edit 3.10 download page actually states this: Yes. If you run into any odd behavior, before running to the internet to complain, perform a factory reset and restore your backup. (Backing up is part of the update process). This should solve any issues. Here's how to perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! Hope this helps/makes sense.
  6. It's all in there - seek and ye shall find. Good luck. EDIT: Recommended reading Helix Owner's Manual Page 56 "Command Centre" Further EDIT: It just struck me - Go to your Global Settings > Footswitches and ensure that the settings are: Stomp Select > Press Preset Mode Switches > 8 presets Stomp Mode Switches > 10 Switches Then check the Example preset, which I uploaded earlier, once more.

Hi, "Tried downloading Native 3.10" makes it sound as if you didn't succeed! If you did succeed then the installer for HX Native would be in your "Downloads" folder on your Mac. It is named "HelixNative3.10.dmg - A standard Mac disk image that you double click to install. This should install "Helix Native.component" into the Components folder inside the Plug-ins Folder which is inside the Audio folder within the Library folder on your drive. Restart your Mac after Installing the plug-in, then launch GarageBand. There are quite a few user on here who are managing to use both Helix Native and HX Edit on Big Sur although can be sluggish. Some also used the Rosetta option to run this stuff, but hey I decided to steer well clear of this debacle that Apple unleashed with the latest OS. In fact I have been using Apple computers right from the first Mac Plus way back in the 80s and have used just about every model released up until I updated to an iMac Retina 5k 27" at the same time as I bought my Helix in 2016. I have refused to update beyond High Sierra OS as everything was such a nightmare to keep up with. If it ain't broke etc. I am certainly glad I avoided making the move to a M1 machine until I know it all works. You could check in the Helix Native section of the forum for an answer, but it's rather quiet in there as there is only a couple of us who seem to care. Oh yeah - that quote that I put in bold text is taken directly from the main release notes under the sub heading "Other Changes and Improvements in 3.10" available here: https://line6.com/support/page/kb/effects-controllers/helix/helix-310-release-notes-r969/

  9. That gets my vote. Who said that? Where am I? What just happened? Ah, now I remember - I was hit on the head by the latest firmware and it knocked me cold!
  10. Here ya go - 5 Stomps along the top row of FS and 5 Snaps along the bottom. This was just quickly thrown together with no particular setting - simply switching things on and off that I could have done using Stomp mode alone, but it shows it can be done. 5Snap 5Preset.hlx Stick in in yer HX Edit and modify to whatever. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  11. Nope! Thats's simply a template to show how to put stuff together. You can assign anything to anything providing you put your GLOBAL SETTINGS > FOOTSWITCHES > STOMP MODE > 10 FOOTSWITCHES The BIG CLUE is 10 FOOTSWITCHES as that is the only option that removes the BANK/PRESET UP/DOWN option and frees up those 2 extra switches. Hope this makes sense.
  12. Did you download the example files that Steve supplied on CustomTone, because I did, and they worked just fine for me? As shown in the video, you can set a foot switch to go to any Preset location in any Bank on your unit. I will load up a blank Preset and check. Edit Update: I just tested it using the example presets that Steve S supplied on CustomTone and it works exactly as shown. It appears that the "DONE" button is obsolete, the change made in the Command centre are instantly updated on the Helix, just remember to save the File when done. As mentioned in the video - it can be confusing - Therefore watch it again - carefully (he is in 10 preset mode),
  13. Hi, If you are dealing with HX Native, and it’s presets, once again, you can save those anywhere you like. They are files, just like any text document. You can drag and drop or load them through Native’s file management. It’s the IRs that have usually been problematic, but IIRC, the issue of them losing track of the link back to the IR has been addressed and they can be managed easier now. In a worst-case scenario, you only have to relink 128 Impulse Response files from wherever you decide to locate them. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  14. To clarify, From the Manual: Preset Mode Switches By default, Preset footswitch mode displays eight presets (four on each row). Choose from “8 Presets,” “Preset/Stomp” (one bank of presets on the top row, switches from stomp mode on the bottom row), “Stomp/Preset” (switches from stomp mode on the top row, one bank of presets on the bottom row), “Preset/Snap” (one bank of presets on the top row, Snapshots 1-4 on the bottom row), “Snap/Preset” (Snapshots 1-4 on the top row, one bank of presets on the bottom row), “Snap/Stomp” (Snapshots 1-4 on the top row, switches from stomp mode on the bottom row), “Stomp/Snap” (switches from stomp mode on the top row, Snapshots 1-4 on the bottom row), and ”8 Snapshots” (Snapshots 1-8). Stomp Mode Switches When set to “10 switches,” FS1 (BANK ) and FS7 (BANK ) are re-purposed as additional Stomp switches. This “10 switches” option only affects the Stomp footswitch mode—when you have the device in Preset, Snapshot, or Looper footswitch modes, BANK and BANK are retained. Although having quoting chapter and verse from the Helix Manual - This might be the droid you seek: Hope this helps/makes sense.
  15. According to the Helix Owner’s Manual > Page 66 > Global Settings > Footswitches You can turn off the Preset/Bank option and have 10 Stomp switches only, with any other setting the Preset/Bank are retained Hope this helps/makes sense.

    Big Sur

Ah, yes, we all get a little giddy when the new toys arrive - easily done ;-) I did try to leave a reaction to your post, but for some strange reasons the demons that inhabit this forum have told me that I have used up my quota of reactions for today. Killjoys - I didn’t realise there are limits on reactions, that will teach us not to try to be spontaneous! Have fun with your new gizmo.
  17. Ahem! From the release notes: HX Edit and Helix Native now add support for macOS 11 Big Sur Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Your post seems a little vague. What is it exactly that “doesn’t seem to work” on your GarageBand?. What do you think you might need? “Is it done?” - you did read the release notes, didn’t you? HINT: HX Edit and Helix Native now add support for macOS 11 Big Sur Hope this helps/makes sense.
  19. I would seriously doubt it, probably due to the fact that the Line 6 Installer/HX Edit detects what hardware is connected. The flash memory package size appears to be the same for each product as individual downloads, but as the hardware will have some sort of I.D. that is recognised by the installer, it’s not going to happen. If it was possible, I think that Line 6 would have pointed that out as a feature. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  20. Hi, I can be a bit of a cheapskate and use a couple of M-Audio EXP pedals with my Helix floor, but IIRC, the Helix Rack utilises a Mission Pedal that is specifically designed to be used with it. https://missionengineering.com/shop-2/products/expression/specific-use-exp/sp1-l6h/ Hope this helps/makes sense.
  21. You really have to be quick around here - Jason @ Helix Help add all the updated stuff to his site 8 hours earlier.
  22. Looks like you have a never ending task, mopping up the walking wounded. ;-)
  23. Hi, If you are wanting to move everything you had on your old Mac to a brand new Mac, use the Apple Migration Assistant tool, and it moves it all for you. Effectively it clones your entire old machine to the new one and everything remains in the correct place. Edit: Regarding your “tone library”, I guess you are referring to your own presets that you have made. If that’s the case you can save/store them wherever you want. You can drag and drop presets into HX Edit from anywhere on your drive. Then they sync via USB to your Helix hardware. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  24. Hi, Michael, I use my Helix floor unit hooked up to my Mac via USB to record directly into Logic Pro X. I also have my powered studio monitors connected from the XLR our on the back of the Helix. This allow me to monitor the audio without any latency and record the processed audio signal in stereo from USB 1&2 along with the dry guitar signal from USB 7. The dry audio can be used to re-amp back through the Helix hardware, or through the Helix Native plugin within Logic. I used to have a Focusrite Saffire, but stopped using it when I got the Helix and a new iMac Retina 5k and could no longer efficiently use the FireWire connections on the Focusrite. Not using a second interface means one less stage of analog/digital conversion. It’s a personal thing, if you already have the Focusrite, you could try it and see if it is a better workflow system for you. Many Helix users have another audio interface for recording - the UA Apollo Twin seem to be a big favourite with all the extra plugin features and Thunderbolt, but is quite expensive. Essentially - it’s personal preference. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  25. A few years ago, a friend and I were asked to transfer a bunch of rather old multi-track reels into the digital realm. Needless to say, they were in such a bad state that we needed to “bake” them before we could use them - tricky and not for the faint hearted. Don’t want to try that again. I also found large aluminium flightcase containing about 50 cassette 4 track tapes, probably around 30 years old. Strangely enough getting the audio off those wasn’t too bad - it involved a lot of head cleaning and de-magnetising, but it worked. Sadly, neither adventure revealed any world shaking recordings - just something to embarrass a few folks who thought they could be the next big thing. C’est la vie.
