Helix LT, playing backing track via USB1/2 from Android phone
datacommando replied to mattzz's topic in Helix
Hi, I found this that may, or may not, have some relevant info you can checkout. It seems that you need a gizmo that has a built in DAC (Digital Audio Converter). I don’t know how good the info in this link is, because if I need to do what you want, I have both an iPhone and iPad. https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/y9uq6x/how_do_i_enable_audio_over_usbc_for_my_pixel_7/ Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Well, to be quite honest about your quest for a cheap, simple solution to creating this function - if this was a real possibility then Gamechanger Audio would not be asking the the price they do for this product. It is obviously not just a repackaged keyboard “damper/sustain pedal”. https://gamechangeraudio.com/bigsby-pedal/ You might want to try investigating the possibility of using Command Centre to trigger momentary switching with the attack and release functions of pitch shifting options. Maybe time to bite the bullet, and buy the tool to do the job? Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: You said - “But in experimenting with pitch, I did think the quality was decent” And so it should be. Did you know that the poly pitch shifting functions of your Helix were created by the same team that had previously worked on, and developed the DigiTech Wammy?
-
The key word here is “MIDI”. That suddenly appeared from nowhere. Have you been reading this? https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/half-damper/ The thing that baffles me is why you appear to be set against using a dedicated expression pedal? Then you seem to have dismissed the PolyPitch function without actually trying it.

Why are there no amp/device GUI in Helix Native?
datacommando replied to CygnusX1Bk2's topic in Helix Native
Hi, You’re a little late to this horse flogging party and the horse is totally dead. If you want larger icons - see my reply in this thread. The definitive answer on the idea of a skeuomorphic interface is in this thread from way back in 2017. See the reply from Digital_Igloo (Eric Klein, Chief Product Design Architect at Yamaha Guitar Group, Inc. / Line 6 / Ampeg) Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, Sorry to disappoint you, but AFAIK Damper/Sustain pedals for electronic keyboards are usually just a Normally Open (N.O.) momentary switch that are connected to a mono 1/4" phono plug. You might want to investigate using the Poly Pitch function, but it guzzles DSP. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Using Output to USB Tskes Variax Model out of Snapshot Mode
datacommando replied to steveglock's topic in Helix
Hi, I’m thinking the same as the comment from @waymda, in the post above. I’m not in the studio right now to be able to check this, but my guess is that you load up your preset containing the Variax settings and they are all there, but when you switch to input USB 7/8 the Helix will drop the Variax options simply because it is not set up to handle them. Obviously, when you switch back to the Multi input the Variax options will have been discarded, but if you reload the preset they should still there. As far as doing the “round trip” to set levels goes, well it all seems rather pointless. Why send a DI audio signal when all you need to do is load a Mono 6 Switch Looper into the first block of the Helix signal chain. That would allow you to record a minute of totally dry audio to pass through the rest of your preset into your DAW. You could then mess around as much as you need to set Cakewalk input levels, while being able to click through your Snapshots. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Using Output to USB Tskes Variax Model out of Snapshot Mode
datacommando replied to steveglock's topic in Helix
Hi, Usually when something was working fine, then it isn't, I will consider the question -"what has changed?" If you revert the previous configuration does it work as expected? I have read through your post several times, and quite frankly I cannot comprehend what you're trying to achieve here. Your post title states "Output to USB", yet the body of the post only mentions USB 7/8 IN?, plus other non Variax Inputs. Well, I think you have realised that if an input is not designed to accept Variax then you will not have the option to edit it. You don't explain how you think that you will be able to get Variax control info from the Helix into Cakewalk and back into the Helix on USB7/8. It makes no sense at all. If you have recorded Variax audio into Cakewalk then that can be played back using USB 1/2 into the Helix, without anymore additional Helix processing, just like a regular audio interface. Having said that if you have recorded a DI signal of the Variax unprocessed audio via USB 7/8 into your DAW, that can only play back the raw audio over USB 7/8 for the purpose of re-amping through your Helix hardware. As for your statement:- "Apparently using Input = USB is an unreliable way to normalize output levels". Once more I have no idea what you are aiming for here. A little more clarity about what you are trying to do would be a big help - "setup a kinda Ream configuration with Cakewalk to normalize output levels", means nothing to me. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, AFAIK most keyboard damper pedals are a simple switch mechanism, well, at least the one use is - (M-Audio SP-2 - Universal Sustain Pedal). Theoretically, you can switch between 2 pitch states using a momentary switch - try using one of the ones on your Helix, but I think an expression pedal option gives more control. If you want to sweep the pitch parameters of a pitch shift block in your Helix assign an expression pedal to do the job, it’s what they are designed to do. They are not simply ON/OFF, but contain a potentiometer to vary the resistance supplied. You could use your Helix onboard Wha/Vol pedal or add a third external EXP pedal for the job. These are in expensive and will control all your dive bomb pitch wobbles. (M-Audio EX-P - Expression Pedal). Hope this helps/makes sense.

can an HX Effects use my LT's presets, sans-amp modeling?
datacommando replied to boynigel's topic in Helix
Hi, If you have both the LT and FX units, they can simultaneously connect to HX Edit because it has Multi-Device, Multi-Window Support. You should then be able to drag and drop presets between each unit. Regarding preset compatibility between the LT and HXFX they should work if your LT Preset doesn't exceed the HX Effects Block type and Path count, and DSP limits. Snapshots greater than 4 are discarded. (from the HX Edit Pilot's Guide) The next time you open HX Edit, click on the “question mark a white circle” in the lower left of the GUI window. There you will find a link to the HX Edit Pilot’s Guide, which is a downloadable Adobe Acrobat pdf. This contains all the relevant information you may require for editing and managing your presets and also a Preset Translation Compatibility Table. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, No problem. Happy to assist.

Hi, I knew that I had seen mention of the :-28 error a while back - fact it was mentioned back in 2017. As nobody came back to say what the fix for this was then the best thing to do is raise a ticket with Customer Support. If you do get a fix for this please come back and let others know about it. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Damn! Ya beat me to it, again!

TGP is hilarious. When this launched yesterday, there was quite a bit of complaining about, "it's made of plastic", "there is no IR loading capabilities", etc. I think those guys are so serious that the miss the point about some young kid just staring out buys their first guitar along with one of these things and "WOW!, I can sound like this in my bedroom". I guess they don't quite understand the market that Line 6 are aiming for with this. Over on TGP Digital_Igloo even says, one of the Marketing Team referred to it as "My First Modeler" and it looks like it hit the mark. Plus at this price, it should be in everyone's back pocket as a fail safe get you through the gig device. I love my Helix, but I also loved the original Kidney Bean POD when that landed. Keep rolling this stuff out Line 6.

Hi, Ben, I would regard your question to be more esoteric than existential, and as we are generally not psychic in these forums, it's really big help to know what DAW you are using, and on what computer OS. Anyhow, here we go. You would be best advised to have some sort of MIDI Controller for this job, but firstly, check out this video for some idea of how it works. The section named "The Better Way" @ 4:08 makes most sense of how to approach this. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Were any of us expecting this, so soon after the HX One?

Hi, Type “HX Stomp power adapter replacement” into Google and watch it light up. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, I had E&M in Milton Keynes fix the joystick on my Helix floor back in 2019, when it was about 4 years old - they were quick and efficient and a reasonable price. IIRC, I had the local DHL Courier ship it down there from up here in Yorkshire - no problem. Note: it is probably a "dry solder" joint - It happens on electronic stuff, just get it repaired. Hope this helps/makes sense

Ye gods - a ticker tape post - whatever next. Well, you obviously spent a very long time looking for a solution - “Boot Failure” messages have been dealt with many, many, many times over in here - just type it into the Search field on the start page. Even easier - Google it. This is getting to be a real pain - check the reply I made in this link less than 24 hour ago.

Is Hx Stomp ever going to have a 4th Snapshot?
datacommando replied to stevenfernandez's topic in Helix
Hi, You might want to investigate using “stacking” snapshots on FS1 which would free up the other two so you could kick in/out more or less drive or dirt etc. I use a Helix floor and don’t have this issue, but here’s a video from Steve Sterlacci who shows how to setup 3 Snapshots on 1 FS using HX Edit Command Centre and his HX Stomp. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
HI, Really, I am going to stop doing this because it is becoming really depressing to keep typing the same thing over, and over. HX Edit CANNOT CONNECT TO A DEVICE THAT IS IS A FAILED STATE! Go here and follow the instructions to the letter, but any references to versions numbers obviously need to be the latest ones. DO NOT LET YOUR MAC LOSE FOCUS WHILE INSTALLING. DO NOT MOVE YOUR MOUSE FROM THE iNSTALLER WINDOW. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Preset Spillover not working, or I’m misunderstanding..

Preset Spillover not working, or I’m misunderstanding..
datacommando replied to jeremiahzellers's topic in Helix
Hi, As you can see, and hear, in the official Line 6 video above - it does work. You mention that you have just bought your Helix. Many users have found the when it doesn’t work as expected, and/or other weirdness happens, it can usually be fixed by performing a Factory Reset and if that doesn’t work, a reinstall of the firmware should do the trick. Failing that, raise a ticket with. Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Preset Spillover not working, or I’m misunderstanding..
datacommando replied to jeremiahzellers's topic in Helix
You have selected to quote from the manual, and I selected to quote from the FW Release Notes for v3.0. As both items are usually written by Digital_Igloo, then it would seem that any “misunderstanding” was created by the author! EDIT: It works as expected here! -
Preset Spillover not working, or I’m misunderstanding..
datacommando replied to jeremiahzellers's topic in Helix
As the OP didn’t mention anything about seeing the “"Remove Path 2 to enable preset spillover?" dialogue, it would appear that he had not activated the spillover option. That would be misunderstanding everything about how it functions, along with delay and reverb trails. Fair comment. Or maybe Digital_Igloo because he wrote this. From the Release Notes, v3.0 Firmware:- New Features in 3.0 True Preset Spillover Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT only Despite what some might have you believe, the only digital multieffects units with true preset spillover were the DigiTech GSP1101, 2112, and 2120, and they accomplished this by dedicating a second identical DSP to spillover and only spillover. (Basically, to hear two dynamically allocated presets with absolutely zero gap—not some global reverb or delay smeared to cover the gap—you need enough DSP to run both of them simultaneously.) So... if you're willing to sacrifice half your DSP—that is, COMPLETELY DISABLE PATH 2—you too can have true preset spillover. IMPORTANT! Unfortunately, Looper recording or playback will not currently spill over from one preset to another. Also, note that there may be a slight hiccup when switching between two presets with different impedance values for the Guitar Input. In the Global Settings > Preferences menu, set Preset Spillover to "On." (SHORTCUT: Hold ACTION and press HOME.) A dialog appears, reading "Remove Path 2 to enable preset spillover?" Press Knob 6 (OK). Press HOME. Path 2 has disappeared! You may now switch presets to your heart's delight with true spillover, but note that if Preset A is still spilling over into Preset B (say one of its delay's feedback is making it self-oscillate), switching to Preset C will abruptly cut off Preset A. To return to normal operation with two paths, turn Preset Spillover back to "Off." (SHORTCUT: Hold ACTION and press HOME again.) A dialog appears, reading "The preset must be reloaded. All unsaved changes will be lost!" So if you've made changes to the preset, be sure to save it before turning Spillover off. Press Knob 6 (OK). But but but... I don't wanna lose Path 2 for spillover! Then keep using snapshots. Hope this clarifies the spillover thing.
