  1. Hi, Possibly the best way to find answers to these sort of questions is to invest in buying this handy dandy guide to the workings of Helix. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AndertonHX-e--sweetwater-publishing-the-big-book-of-helix-tips-and-tricks It's full of interesting information, including complete descriptions of Helix effects parameters Hope this helps/makes sense.
  2. Hi, The reason you have never seen it done is because it is not possible, and the reason you cannot find any resources is because they don’t exist. MIDI functions on the Helix are fairly basic, no SYSEX etc. The thread about “Notes” was started by someone requesting the feature to be implemented - if it were possible. Requests for features to be considered for possible future updates need to be logged on IdeaScale. There are no Line 6 staff here and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - (See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums”). This link is where you need to go to have any hope of your suggestion been seen by anyone from Line 6: https://line6.ideascale.com/c/line6 Before posting any new ideas, please do a search to see if it's already been listed. Multiple requests for the same thing will thin out the votes. Also, post your ideas one at a time. Many users don’t vote for combined suggestions. Then you should use the “sticky thread” in this forum to let other users know what your suggestions are, with links to IdeaScale, so they can vote on it if they wish. The full list of MIDI functions can be found on page 72 of the Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual. https://line6.com/data/6/0a00050b287e6643b71cda93a/application/pdf/Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.
  3. True, very true - I have a couple of bootable flash drives that have been a great “fail safe” system, because Time Machine is no real help anymore. As for Helix Native, I don’t really think that Line 6 will produce a patch, if needed, before the release of the next major firmware release. I guess the they will be testing HX Native beta versions with Mac OS 15.0.1 (Sequoia).
  4. As usual, Apple updates it's OS and the entire house of cards comes tumbling down. Happens every year! I wouldn't expect any news on this until the next Firmware update. Last predicted, by Digital_Igloo over on TGP, to be sometime in late fall. One good reason not to be an early adopter. Although having said that, I did have an email from Eventide this morning saying that they have completed testing their plugins and are fully compatible with Sequoia. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  5. Yeah, I have been using my Helix floor since October 2015 and still surprise myself with what it can do. Anyhow, sometime forum user “Malhavoc” (Ben Vesco) had compiled a list of DSP allocations for each item in the HX firmware v.3.70. It appears that using only the preamp models will use considerably less DSP than full amps and because you can access 4 signal paths you may be in luck. Find it here: http://benvesco.com/store/helix-dsp-allocations/ Hope this helps/makes sense.
  6. Hi, It looks like you have answered your own question. Yes, you can have more than one amp available and switch between them, but as you have realised you could well run out of DSP very quickly. I’m not sure that this would make life any easier, but what have got to lose? Give it a try. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  7. Hi, Your question isn’t very clear, but I think this is what you need to know. When a Volume block is “ON” the Exp pedal controls the effect from 0 - 100%, when ”BYPASSED” the volume block passes all the signal through (100%) Keep it turned on and use these options to keep the zero setting between presets. From the HX Effects 3.0 Owner’s Manual > Page 47 > Global Settings > Pedals ”Determines whether each expression pedal position is recalled per snapshot, per preset, or applied globally. If you want a Volume Pedal or Wah to maintain its position when switching presets, set this to “Global.” https://line6.com/data/6/0a00050e070d666767d27e720/application/pdf/HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense
  8. Hi, I’m not really sure I fully understand what the exact issue is, but I do know that on my Helix floor unit it is possible to have the large volume knob control the output level on Multi, or XLR, or 1/4” and at the same time the phones socket (which is controlled by the little “Phones” knob) can monitor what’s happening at the 1/4” jacks. From the Manual > page 63 > Global Settings ”Volume Knob Controls - Determines which output(s) are affected when turning the top panel VOLUME knob. For example, you may want to control the level sent from the 1/4" outputs to your stage monitor without affecting the XLR level sent to the front-of-house mixer. Or you may want to disable the VOLUME knob altogether; in this case, set it to “Digital,” at which point Helix’s 1/4" and XLR outs will be at unity level. Headphones Monitor - Determines which signal(s) are heard from the PHONES output. Normally you would set this to Multi (1/4"+XLR+Digital+USB 1/2), but there may be a situation where you only want to hear what’s sent from the 1/4" or XLR outs, particularly if they are fed different signals (or band members!)“ Probably, I’m missing the point entirely. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  9. Hi, I guess that you’re experiencing the zero to 100% at the mid point then back to zero at full travel? This has been mentioned many, many times in this forum, way back in 2016 in this thread (see the reply from Digital_Igloo) Even more here, And still more. Some Exp pedals can be modified, and some just don’t work - the least expensive solution is a cheapo M-Audio EXP that will work or go for the very expensive Mission Engineering pedal designed to work with Line 6 units. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  10. Hi, Sadly, there are only 3 options on the Helix headphone monitor: - 1/4”, XLR or Multi. Having read your reply, it has left me rather confused as to your working, and signal paths? Also, you don’t mention what computer and DAW you are using. I mention this because on Apple OS, you have the option to create an aggregate USB device which would allow you to expand your in and out count by combining various outboard interfaces. As I say, I don’t quite follow how you are using the Helix in this situation. The Helix has 4 input and output paths with each one in stereo. I would guess that with a little bit of clever routing you should be able to devise a way to hear just the S/PDIF. Just a thought, and I have not tried this - how about adding a Send block to tap into the S/PDIF path you want to monitor in isolation, and have that signal go to an external headphone amp. Without more clear information of what you are trying to achieve, and how everything is connected, that’s about all I can suggest. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  11. Hi, Another vote for the rather excellent young Mr. Cordy - check out this stuff as he walks through some settings. plus a little ambient stuff. Also, you can do this stuff with the HXFX. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  12. Hi, As only the Helix floor and rack models have S/PDIF connections it must be one of these that you are asking about? According to the Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual > page 63 > Global Settings > Ins and Outs > Headphones Monitor. “Determines which signal(s) are heard from the PHONES output. Normally you would set this to Multi (1/4"+XLR+Digital+USB 1/2), but there may be a situation where you only want to hear what’s sent from the 1/4" or XLR outs, particularly if they are fed different signals (or band members!)” Multi to the phones includes Digital - (S/PDIF) You might want to have a read:- https://line6.com/data/6/0a00050b287e6643b71cda93a/application/pdf/Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.
  13. I couldn’t find a video that covers all the ins and outs of the HXFX, but this is a good one showing some fun stuff with the HX Stomp, using both Mono and Stereo hook ups. I don’t have a Stomp, or HXFX, mine is the Helix floor, but I guess the techniques are very similar throughout the range of HX devices. I know it is on mine. Check the Owner’s Manual for your unit for precise clarification of the signal path options:- Page 36 - Parallel Path Routing. Hope this helps/makes sense. Oooh! Here’s a link to a bunch of getting started with your HXFX videos.
  14. Hi, again. No, right from the start you are misunderstanding the working of the device! You plug in a guitar into the Left Input which is designated “Mono”. Fine but, after that everything that happens to the signal path is theoretically stereo. Therefore, your “Mono” input appears at both left and right outputs as “Mono”. Ok, so far? Now, you add a second input on the right - O.K. That now becomes part of that original stereo path. The two input signals can be directed to either left or right output. You need to point them to where they need to be in the stereo image. This is called panning. Or even easier, stick a Ping Pong delay onto the original Left (mono) input path and listen to it bounce around the outputs. Learn how to use the equipment you have! Hmm … Apparently not! This seems to be unique to someone who hasn’t grasped the basics of signal flow. Please - RTFM! I know this is not going to help, but I really don’t care any more, this far down the line. Kinell - It’s Saturday night and I am now going away to get very drunk and howl at the moon!
  15. Hi, Much like @rd2rk in the post above, I’m not sure that I understand, or possibly, you don’t understand the functions of the HX Effects box. It was designed as a guitar multi-fx processor, and as such, and because the majority of guitars are MONO, then the Left Input is and will remain MONO, or chronic MONO as you call it. Suffice to say, the second input (Right) enables the use of external stereo devices such as stereo pedals, drum machines, synths, etc. All internal signal paths are stereo, even those A/B split paths, and should emerge from the other end in glorious stereo. UNLESS YOU PLACE A MONO EFFECT BLOCK IN THE PATH! If that is the case you will find that everything following that block will be collapsed to “chronic MONO”. If that is not what is happening, and “the truth still remains that there is something wrong with the stereo inputs on my brand new Line 6 HX Effects unit“, then simply contact Customer Support and you will be refunded, or have a brand new replacement unit supplied - these are standard consumer rights. Hope this helps/makes sense. Oh, you might want to read this. https://line6.com/data/6/0a00050e070d666767d27e720/application/pdf/HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - English .pdf also available in French, German and Japanese.
  16. Oops! Apologies. That video is the one linked on the Helix Help website and it usually very good for information such as this. https://helixhelp.com/models Obviously, it didn’t make sense or help this time.
  17. Hi, Here is the info in a video about the BE-100 on which the Placter Clean is based:- The info about the Clean Channel is around 2:10 Hope this helps/makes sense.
English version: - Hello community, I hope everyone is doing well I have a question about the "looper": How do I assign different effects for each loop? I use the loop in 6-channel mode, but as soon as I add an effect it is found on all the loops I have done previously.. Also, is there a trick that allows you to put an effect per loop? Thank you in advance for your answers ^^ Hi, You appear to misunderstand the Looper functions in your HX Effects unit. There isn’t a 6 channel mode available, but there is option that works with 6 switches. Rather than re type all the information here, I suggest that you read the section regarding how to use the 6 switch Looper on pages 26 & 27 of the French version of the HX Effects 3.0 Owner’s Manual. https://line6.com/data/6/0a00050e070d666767ef38e19/application/pdf/HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - French .pdf Regarding the placement of the looper in your signal chain. It work just like any other dedicated hardware looper, but is limited to 60 seconds in mono, or 30 seconds in stereo. Any effects you want to be recorded by the looper should be placed before the looper in the signal path. Any effect blocks after the looper can be added to the loop playback, such as, delay and, or reverb. For example: - place a chorus and phaser block going into the Looper. First record a loop with the phaser on, put the looper into overdub mode now exit the looper and turn off the phaser and turn on the chorus. Then you need to re access the looper mode to record your overdub. When in overdub mode, the looper should still be playing back your original phased piece, then you add another layer of chorus audio on top of the original part. The layered loop will be processed by any following effects depending on if they are on or off. Damn, it easier to see it at work - here’s a video of Paul Hindmarsh using the 6 switch Looper in the HX Effects. https://youtu.be/zewc9wB5b6k?si=MHYf5Nq5b3-mZuhQ Hope this helps/ makes sense.
  19. I don’t know where you are getting your “no download” information, but it is wrong! This is from the download page. Helix/HX 3.71: (released January 11, 2024) includes several bug fixes, and is strongly recommended for all users. These are the release notes for v.3.71 Also you mentioned:- "unable to import this preset because required license wasn't found" and “Preset translation not supported, dsp block constraint exceeded.” This possibly points to a couple of things, such as, “license” - this may be due to the fact that the purchased preset may contain a particular IR that is required to complete the preset. The second item about DSP more likely indicates that this particular preset was created to be used with one of the larger members of the Helix range that actually utilise 2 DSP chips. Caveat emptor- a little research is a big help! Hope this helps/makes sense.
  20. Hi, Reading through the replies it actually appears that when he mentions the POD he is making reference to the POD X3 Pro, IIRC from way back in 2008 . The POD X3 Family Pilot's Handbook > Section 3.22 "Effects Loop – the Effects Loop provides two jacks for stereo FX Send and two for stereo FX Return, operating at approximately 19.5 Volts peak-to-peak, making it optimal for line level devices. The loop can also be used with most stomp boxes by adjusting the send and return levels. Use the Left Return jack for mono return. The loop can run pre or post Amp Model, and if nothing is connected to it, POD X3 Pro is smart enough to disable the loop so you still get sound. See Chapter 5 for details." Still, if it was me, I wouldn't stick a dirt pedal into an FX Loop, for the same reasons as described by @rd2rk in the earlier post above, but hey - whatever floats yer boat! Hope this helps/makes sense.
  21. Hi, I have to agree with @rd2rk about the software - the majority of failed updates are generally down to “user error”. There are many, many threads in here which describe how to recover from a failed update - simply search, because life is too short for us to keep on typing out the same information, over and over again. Oh, look, there is one right here:- Also bear in mind that when seeking assistance from Forum users it's a really good idea to supply as much information as possible regarding the computer and operating system, HX unit and DAW, you are using. Furthermore, you should be aware that if you are using HX Edit to update over USB, and it fails, then ensure that HX Edit is fully closed down before attempting to run the Line 6 Updater as it cannot connect to your “failed state hardware” if HX Edit is still running. Never have other things running in the background during updates and don’t let the Updater lose focus, (don’t go clicking around on other stuff). Oh, it’s 8 years this month since I started to use my Helix floor and I never have issues with updates. Hope this helps/makes sense
  22. Hi, Yes, you can use Command Centre to assign almost anything to some other thing. A/B splits are easy, or, you could use an expression pedal to sweep between the 2 options if you like. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  23. Hi, Yeah, it's a science thing - It known as Pan Law, but rather than send you to some Wiki about it, here's a great post from way back in 2019 which explains it. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  24. The Line 6 demo video featuring Pete Thorn, as linked by @theElevators in the post above, shows him re-amping using the Helix floor. There is a slight difference when using your HX Stomp as it needs to be set on USB 5&6 to listen to the DI dry audio signal being sent out from your DAW which should also be sending out on USB 5/6. This information is available in the HX Stomp 3.0 Owner’s Manual > page 56 > DI Recording and Re-amping. https://line6.com/data/6/0a00050b058066312873a50cf/application/pdf/HX Stomp 3.0 Owner's Manual - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.
