Sorry, but another "can't update to 3.70" tale of woe SOLVED (Doh!)
datacommando replied to Joeleft's topic in Helix
Hi, I’m also un the U.K. (West Yorkshire) and like you I powered down and recharged my iPad overnight. From what you stated earlier you should be good to go, any other issues with this, post back and we can try to figure it out. It is exceptionally rare that a firmware update will turn your Helix into a paperweight, it’s a computer. I have been updating my Helix since FW 1.06.5 way back in 2016 - never had any real issues - I must live on a ley line. Let us know how it goes. EDIT: This is the solution provided by members of this forum. Follow this link, read it thoroughly, and follow the instructions given. Take Note: this installation technique described within was for an earlier version of the Firmware. Any references to version numbers should be the very latest available for the new 3.70 Firmware. The method for “Offline” updating is identical.- 17 replies

Hi, A couple of points here. The Line 6 Updater cannot connect to your hardware if HX Edit is still running - ensure it is not running in the background. Also you will need to disconnect the USB Cable from both your hardware and PC. Restart your Helix while holding down FS6 & FS12 to put your unit into Safe Boot Mode. Reconnect the USB to the Helix and PC. Ensure HX Edit is not open and launch the Line 6 Updater Utility and choose to work offline. Your device should now appear to be available for updating via the Utility. Here is the Line 6 official recovery instructions. Hope this helps/makes sense.- 17 replies

HX EDIT - Block effect settings - FACTORY vs USER default

Hi, Mot sure if this is relevant, but check this thread from earlier this year:- Hope this helps/makes sense.

I guess that you are the same @Kidwags that posted about the error code in the Helix Native forum. Now you are saying that you’re having issues with the Helix Floor - strange! Well, when you ask about the Rebuilding Presets- “Does ANY of this Sound Familiar to Anyone?”. The short answer is - yes! Rebuilding presets is perfectly normal following an update. It’s what your Helix (or other HX unit) does to optimise the presets to work with the current firmware. Regard it as a “housekeeping” task for your device. You will notice that if for any reason you add one, or more, presets created with an earlier version of the firmware, then the rebuilding process will happen again. It will process everything in your device even if you only add one preset. It should only take a few minutes and is nothing to worry about. What does slightly concern me is that you say you have “Lost All Factory Presets and most (but not all) of my installed presets.”. That is rather odd, because before starting any Firmware update you are advised to make a full backup of the contents of your Helix. This is to give you a “fail safe” backup so you do not lose any of your own creations. Furthermore, to load all the Factory Presets in v.3.70 simply run a Factory Reset process on your Floor unit. Once you have checked out the presets you can export them to load whenever you like. Likewise, you can load HX Edit and use “Restore from Backup”, to reload your custom presets, Global setting, IRs etc., simply by selecting the “Restore from Backup“ in the menu of the editor. Someone else asked a similar question yesterday - here’s that reply All this is fully documented in the Release Notes for Firmware 3.70. - - Perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! Helix Floor/LT: While holding footswitches 9 & 10 (bottom row, 2 middle switches), turn on Helix Floor/LT Helix Rack: While holding knobs 5 & 6 (2 furthest right knobs below the screen), turn on Helix Rack HX Effects: While holding footswitches 6 & TAP (2 farthest right switches on the bottom row), turn on HX Effects HX Stomp: While holding footswitches 2 & 3, turn on HX Stomp HX Stomp XL: While holding footswitches C & D, turn on HX Stomp OPTIONAL: Performing a factory reset loads the new 3.70 Factory Presets, but restoring from your backup will overwrite these. Spend some time exploring these and export the factory presets you want to keep (or drag them to your desktop). If you have unused setlists in Helix Floor/Rack/LT, you can also export the entire FACTORY 1 bundle for loading into an unused setlist later. From the top File menu, select Restore From Backup... If you don't have any important presets in Setlist 1, click the disclosure triangle next to Presets and uncheck the first setlist's box; this will retain 3.70's FACTORY 1 setlist. Select the backup file created in Step 1 and click Restore Backup. Hope this helps(makes sense.

You didn't say what your 2nd guitar is playing through, but I'm with @DunedinDragon on this, if he's is using a Helix. I have just been messing with the 3 Note generator into the shimmer reverb for making a synth pad effect. AFAIK, the main chords are F# and B, then D#m and G#m. You can split these chords into basic triads for the 3 Note Gen to playback from foot switches. I was only fooling around with F# and B by setting the octaves as they would be on a keyboard and then swapping around the waveform shapes - the saw shapes are good. Then you need to figure out how to mix this stuff into the song format you are working with. Try experimenting with this sort stuff - add a phaser or sweep echo. Hope this helps/makes sense. Stoopid.hlx See if you can dig something out of this!

Hi, This is the only good reference to the code-1116 error that I could find - check it out for a possible solution. https://line6.com/support/topic/53283-helix-native-code-1116-could-not-decrypt-the-asset/ Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, You obviously still have all your own presets from before the update to v 3.70, but just to be safe make another backup, then simply perform a Factory Reset on your hardware. This will erase everything and when you restart your device all the user slots will be empty, except for Factory Presets 1 & 2. You can then use restore from backup to load in all your own stuff to the User slots and just leave the option for setlist 1 & 2 unchecked. All this is fully documented in the Release Notes for Firmware 3.70. Well, that says it all right there - and you want to to do this for one song on New Years Eve. Maybe aim for NYE 2025

Please help in viewing/sharing the settings of a HLX patch I have

Not possible! -
Hi, The file that you attached is a generic .php file NOT a Line 6 Helix format .hlx file, therefore nobody here will be able to edit it and show you an example of how to split the outputs for use with and without cabinets. I would suggest try again, but ensure the file you upload is named correctly and uploaded using the "choose files" option. You should then see the attached uploaded file in your post with the correct file extension. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, If you want to move presets on the HX Stomp, see page 13 of the HX Stomp 3.0 Owner’s Manual. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a418962611d636e7c51b/application/pdf/HX Stomp 3.0 Owner's Manual - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, My point is (and was) that this sort of thing is entirely subjective. There is no right and wrong - if it sounds good, then it is good. Only you can decide if the audio that goes in at one end of the signal chain, and come out of the other, is what you want to hear. If not, then move things around until you get what you are chasing. There are many ways to approach this sort of signal routing. The general consensus being that usually you would place any overdrive and/or distortion effects before any amp/cab, then follow this with any time based effects (modulation, delay, reverb). Add EQ, compression etc., where ever seems to give the desired, or best results. Having said that, it is entirely feasible that you could have, for example, chorus, delay and reverb before the amp stage, as per some “shoegaze” bands. Personally, looking at the hardware boxes that you have, you could make life a lot easier by simply using the HX Stomp and your BOSS Loop Station. It would be a lot more compact and portable. Also the HX Stomp has digital equivalents your Ibanez TS9, Fulltone OCD, EHX Big Muff Pi, along side stacks of stereo Delays and Reverbs all built in. Have a play around with building some patches in the HX Stomp and lighten your load. Maybe @lou-kash is correct when he states the HX Stomp is a one stop solution - a lot less cables, batteries, power supplies etc. Other than that - you suggested: Instrument input - Amp/Cab or Preamp - Modulation effects - Send/Return loop - EQ - Compressor - Output Maybe EQ followed by compressor at the end to even out and tighten up. Does this make sense? Answer: Yes it does, but only if that is what you want to achieve! There are no rules! Hope this helps/makes sense.

If you plugged it all in and it works then that’s all you need! You don’t need anyone else to confirm it. Hope this helps/makes sense. bump!

Ah, ha! If the first rule of weirdness is the Reset, then the first rule of updating is to install the latest version of HX Edit first. Once again, this is fully documented in the Release Notes, plus there is a couple of “sticky threads” in here that cover this:- And this! Hope this helps/makes sense.

Helix-Edit/-Native: pictures of amps and effects!
datacommando replied to fruijter7777's topic in Helix
Hi, It’s not a flaw - someone else was asking a similar question over in the HX Native forum. Here’s my reply to him: ”If you have a liking for larger icons of the model that look like the amp, or pedal, simply click on the block/grid of 9 squares in the header bar of the EDIT window of Helix Native, or HX Edit to change it from “list view”. There has been a debate about skeuomorphic design for interfaces over on TGP for quite a while. The jury is still out, but the Fender ToneMaster Pro seems to started the ball rolling again.” Check out all the models here: https://helixhelp.com/models There are some younger Helix users who have never seen a Fender Bassman so a picture would mean nothing to them. -
Hi, Good to know that fixed your missing cabs issue. A reset can generally blow out any bugs that may occur, especially after firmware updates, so it’s a good place to start troubleshooting your unit. Have fun with the new stuff.

Hi, Rule number one for when weird stuff starts to happen is perform a Factory Reset. That should put it back to "box fresh" condition. Uh? - Didn't know it was recommended? It's noted on the Downloads page for HX Edit, and also in the Release Notes for every Firmware Update - here it is at point 3 from the last update to v.3.70. Updating Helix/HX Hardware (Except For HX One) With Helix/HX connected to your computer, launch HX Edit (3.01 or higher), and make sure you're signed in. HX Edit knows when a new update is available and will walk you through the entire update procedure for both hardware and software, including backing up everything to your computer. IMPORTANT! If you're running HX Edit 3.00 or older, download HX Edit 3.70 and repeat step 1. HX Edit 3.70 (macOS): https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=12404 HX Edit 3.70 (Windows): https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=12406 If your Helix Floor/Rack/LT is currently running firmware 3.15 or older, halfway through the update to 3.70, Helix's LCD reads "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" THIS IS NORMAL. Breathe deep, everything is fine. You're almost there. HX Edit will display a message indicating the device must be reset. Click resume and wait for the second part of the update to complete. Perform a factory reset. Hi, Sooner or later - hmm… it has already been done, but not with HX products, and I don’t think that will be happening anytime soon. Somebody has come out with a small box like the Stomp that can run plug-ins, you really need to check out the Dwarf from MOD Audio. Here ya go! https://mod.audio/dwarf/ Hope this helps makes sense.

Hi, That second photo is my Helix showing the same preset as the one in the HX Edit image. The pictures show an example where I was attempting to add the “Feedbacker” block to a preset in which both the DSPs are almost maxed out. Both images show that the “Feedbacker” is NOT available to use in the signal chain. In the post from @molul the quote is:- “and yeah, it should appear as grey, not disappear.” Looks like it is visible in my pic. If you guys think that this is a bug then the best thing to do is report it by raising a ticket with Customer Support. The more reports, the faster there will be a fix, if it needs one. I cannot report it because I am not seeing that “bug” - see pics again. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, That is not a screenshot - it is a .php file that downloads nothing. Try attaching a .jpg file by using the choose files option. Also, buying pre-owned electronic equipment is always a bit of an unknown - you pay your money and take a chance. Plus, what @silverhead said in his post - check if HX Native discount is available as part of the deal.

What happened was - you didn’t read my reply posted above, which explains that it is a MONO effect! Look under Dynamics Models > MONO

Hi, This as been asked before, and the answer is NO, they are greyed out for a reason. Using Command Centre allows you assign almost anything to anything else, BUT the MODE/EDIT/EXIT Switch is exactly that - it allows you to toggle from Preset to Snapshot operation, or hold to edit. If you could assign another option to it you would essentially screw up the basic functions. Like wise the TAP/TUNER, it already has a couple of jobs to do and they are fixed. At least the Command options allows you to use 6 switches by being able to change the function of the Bank Up/Down buttons to something more useful. Note: It is fairly obvious that you can only change 6 options as there are only 6 sections available to name in the main display window. I keep posting this, but hey - Hope this helps/makes sense.

How to Craft Warmer More Tube Sounding/Feeling Helix Patches
