Hi, Ben, I would regard your question to be more esoteric than existential, and as we are generally not psychic in these forums, it's really big help to know what DAW you are using, and on what computer OS. Anyhow, here we go. You would be best advised to have some sort of MIDI Controller for this job, but firstly, check out this video for some idea of how it works. The section named "The Better Way" @ 4:08 makes most sense of how to approach this. Hope this helps/makes sense.

  4. Hi, I had E&M in Milton Keynes fix the joystick on my Helix floor back in 2019, when it was about 4 years old - they were quick and efficient and a reasonable price. IIRC, I had the local DHL Courier ship it down there from up here in Yorkshire - no problem. Note: it is probably a "dry solder" joint - It happens on electronic stuff, just get it repaired. Hope this helps/makes sense

Well, you obviously spent a very long time looking for a solution - “Boot Failure” messages have been dealt with many, many, many times over in here - just type it into the Search field on the start page. Even easier - Google it. This is getting to be a real pain - check the reply I made in this link less than 24 hour ago.

Hi, You might want to investigate using “stacking” snapshots on FS1 which would free up the other two so you could kick in/out more or less drive or dirt etc. I use a Helix floor and don’t have this issue, but here’s a video from Steve Sterlacci who shows how to setup 3 Snapshots on 1 FS using HX Edit Command Centre and his HX Stomp. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  7. HI, Really, I am going to stop doing this because it is becoming really depressing to keep typing the same thing over, and over. HX Edit CANNOT CONNECT TO A DEVICE THAT IS IS A FAILED STATE! Go here and follow the instructions to the letter, but any references to versions numbers obviously need to be the latest ones. DO NOT LET YOUR MAC LOSE FOCUS WHILE INSTALLING. DO NOT MOVE YOUR MOUSE FROM THE iNSTALLER WINDOW. Hope this helps/makes sense.

  9. Hi, As you can see, and hear, in the official Line 6 video above - it does work. You mention that you have just bought your Helix. Many users have found the when it doesn’t work as expected, and/or other weirdness happens, it can usually be fixed by performing a Factory Reset and if that doesn’t work, a reinstall of the firmware should do the trick. Failing that, raise a ticket with. Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  10. You have selected to quote from the manual, and I selected to quote from the FW Release Notes for v3.0. As both items are usually written by Digital_Igloo, then it would seem that any “misunderstanding” was created by the author! EDIT: It works as expected here!
  11. As the OP didn’t mention anything about seeing the “"Remove Path 2 to enable preset spillover?" dialogue, it would appear that he had not activated the spillover option. That would be misunderstanding everything about how it functions, along with delay and reverb trails. Fair comment. Or maybe Digital_Igloo because he wrote this. From the Release Notes, v3.0 Firmware:- New Features in 3.0 True Preset Spillover Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT only Despite what some might have you believe, the only digital multieffects units with true preset spillover were the DigiTech GSP1101, 2112, and 2120, and they accomplished this by dedicating a second identical DSP to spillover and only spillover. (Basically, to hear two dynamically allocated presets with absolutely zero gap—not some global reverb or delay smeared to cover the gap—you need enough DSP to run both of them simultaneously.) So... if you're willing to sacrifice half your DSP—that is, COMPLETELY DISABLE PATH 2—you too can have true preset spillover. IMPORTANT! Unfortunately, Looper recording or playback will not currently spill over from one preset to another. Also, note that there may be a slight hiccup when switching between two presets with different impedance values for the Guitar Input. In the Global Settings > Preferences menu, set Preset Spillover to "On." (SHORTCUT: Hold ACTION and press HOME.) A dialog appears, reading "Remove Path 2 to enable preset spillover?" Press Knob 6 (OK). Press HOME. Path 2 has disappeared! You may now switch presets to your heart's delight with true spillover, but note that if Preset A is still spilling over into Preset B (say one of its delay's feedback is making it self-oscillate), switching to Preset C will abruptly cut off Preset A. To return to normal operation with two paths, turn Preset Spillover back to "Off." (SHORTCUT: Hold ACTION and press HOME again.) A dialog appears, reading "The preset must be reloaded. All unsaved changes will be lost!" So if you've made changes to the preset, be sure to save it before turning Spillover off. Press Knob 6 (OK). But but but... I don't wanna lose Path 2 for spillover! Then keep using snapshots. Hope this clarifies the spillover thing.
  12. Hi, Yep - You seem to have misunderstood how “true spillover” is implemented. In order to take advantage of it, you have to sacrifice one entire DSP, which means you loose all of Path 2.   14. I just had another look at the BOSS SL-2 manual re: "Controlling This Unit from an External MIDI Device" Page 10. When a start (FAH) message is received, the slice pattern is output from the beginning. This is the same as the info which you quoted above, therefore I'm guessing that once the MIDI clock takes control of the Slicer, then a SR Msg "Start" = binary 11111010 - hexadecimal FA (or FAH) it should trigger the pattern. We will never know how it responds until the OP can figure out how to get the Helix and BOSS to actually communicate via MIDI. In the end it's just a bunch of ones and zeros! :)

Hi, I found this, which I think is saying that there really should be no difference between Binary and Hex versions of the MIDI clock messages. “Universal MIDI System Realtime messages (i.e. non-manufacturer-specific) are as follows: Start - binary 11111010 - hexadecimal FA, sometimes written FAH (“H” for heaxadecimal) or 0xfa Stop - binary 11111100 - hexadecimal FC, sometimes written FCH or 0xfc Sync (a.k.a) MIDI Clock: - binary 11111000 - hexadecimal F8, sometimes written F8H or 0xf8” Dunno? Confused.
  16. Hi, I realise that you are completely new to this, therefore my first question is - are you sure that you have the correct MIDI cable for the BOSS Slicer? IIRC there are 2 types of 5 pin DIN MIDI to TRS MIDI configurations. Anyhow, if you do have the correct cable (Boss BMIDI-5-35) you should be able to simply connect the 5 Pin to the MIDI OUT from the Helix and the TRS into the MIDI IN jack socket on the Boss. Then from the Global Settings on the Helix go to MIDI/Tempo and set MIDI base channel to 1 and then set Send MIDI Clock to MIDI. Next - set your MIDI receive channel on the Slicer, by turning the type knob to "DUAL 4". Now turn the Balance and Attack knobs fully clockwise. Next hold down the pedal switch and turn the power on by inserting a jack plug into the INPUT A (MONO) socket. The check indicator LED should light up red. Now, turn the VARIATION knob to position 1 (this selects MIDI Channel 1). Press the pedal switch and the setting should be saved, the check indicator should blink green. After 3 or 4 seconds the pedal should be good to go. All this stuff is in the Owner's Manuals for both units. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  17. Hi, This has been discussed previously in these threads - check this one. Short answer:- Remember HX Edit is capable of Multi-Device, Multi-Window Support, which will allow you to drag and drop presets between your 2 units. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  18. Hi, I have a Helix Floor running FW 3.71, and have a Mooer DTP Ocean Machine patched into a stereo FX loop without any of the issues you say you are experiencing. I also patch in various other stereo/mono external ancillary gear - various loopers, Yamaha SPX90, Ibanez DM1000 delay, Zoom MS 70CDR, or Nomad Axxeman for example - all function normally and as expected. Generally, I would suggest a Factory Reset, but you said that you have reinstalled the latest firmware, therefore I would guess this is possibly a hardware issue. If that is the case you need to contact Customer Support, as this is only a user group. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  19. To save retyping this is a cut and paste from a previous post regarding HX Edit. Hi, The next time you open HX Edit, click on the “question mark a white circle” in the lower left of the GUI window. There you will find a link to the HX Edit Pilot’s Guide, which is a downloadable Adobe Acrobat pdf. This contains all the relevant information you may require for editing and managing your presets. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  20. Hi, It would be advisable to contact Customer Support and raise a ticket, stating the you have discovered a “bug”. The more that people that inform them, the faster there could be a fix - they cannot fix what the don’t know about, and Line 6 staff do not frequent this forum. Hope this helps/makes sense.

If this is the case you should contact Customer Support to raise a ticket, unless another FX user can help out. Having said that, as all Helix units share the same basic firmware, if it was a bug then others would probably have this issue on other hardware. When weird stuff happens - a factory reset usually helps. Hope this helps/makes sense.

  23. Oh, here we go once again - another first time “me too” post with absolutely no pertinent information included, other than a quote from someone who made a single post 4 years back. Very helpful. When seeking assistance from other users it is a big help to know exactly what your computer and operating system are, plus what Line 6 HX device your are updating along with which version of the firmware you had installed. It is rather tedious to keep typing the same information over, and over within the same thread, not to mention the many other times it has been re-stated over several years of these “firmware bricked my Helix” posts - it’s software, simply reinstall, while following all the instructions to the letter. Do not let your computer go to sleep, or lose focus during the update. Furthermore, I must assume that you have read through all the solutions offered here without success, generally they usually fix these issues. If that is the case, and you have failed to restore your hardware, then your only option is to raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  24. Hi, I have found that people usually on post online when they have a problem with something. When stuff works they are simply happy enough just to get on with their life. Don't hold your breath waiting for thousands of people give a definitive list of what works, as it is something of a futile quest. That's simply because ultimately you only can decide what type of amp you require. Much like the channel switching systems there are far too many variations to choose from. It maybe time to visit your local dealer and find something suitable for your needs. Hope this helps makes sense.
