Corrupt presets are back with 2.91, at least for me. Everything worked fine and dandy until yesterday evening. Been playing with a pretty simple preset, just path 1 into path 2, no fancy stuff happening, bunch of drives, amp and IR, gate, volume pedal, delay, reverb, looper - and that was about it. Some pedals assigned to switches, 4 snapshots assigned. Not using any of the new pedals or Command Center options. Switched the Helix back on this morning and it just hung. Had to boot in preset restore mode (FS 10+11) which was then deleting the very preset that was loaded. I have an almost identical copy of that preset (just using a different IR) which is still working fine. As this has happened before in pretty much exactly the same way, to me it looks as if the currently loaded preset is an easier victim of preset corruption. Maybe I should try to always load an empty patch before shutting down. Will be tough to remember as my entire home recording setup is sitting on one central power strip switch.

Gotta say that the most upvoted things on Ideascale are completely irrelevant to me. Usually it's all about new amps and stuff.

Same here (using a different monitor). I think you'd need to be a major cork sniffer to spot a real difference reliably - and as I ain't, I always leave some headroom in either direction. Especially on stage, the last thing I wanted is to crawl behind my monitor to do some small volume adjustments.

2.9 Helix-HX Command Center Snapshots/Preset Tutorial
SaschaFranck replied to Lone_Poor_Boy's topic in Helix
I'm on a full Helix, so I can't reproduce that, but there seem to be some rather erratic things happening related to the LEDs. -
You may think that. I would use that function *all* the time. As would others.
-
But that's an entirely different thing.
-
Has been requested as in a "global block" functionality a bunch of times already. Boss' GT-1000 has it, FAS' Axe FX has it, too. Would be great to see on the Helix. And at least in a certain way, it should be easy to implement (you can kinda "hack" it with an external MIDI controller).
-
converting 24 bit to 16 bit. Let Helix do it or use 3rd part dithering?
SaschaFranck replied to optofonik's topic in Helix
Just do some comparisons yourself and decide what you prefer. Shouldn't take more than just a few minutes. Personally, I think the way Helix does it is fine. -
Every bit this. When I had to deal with recording from an X32 for the first time, it's been absolutely plug and play (ok, under macOS, under Windows you'll need to install a driver). Should be every bit the same with the XR18, especially as apparently it's set up for drums already.
-
Can't confirm. it's working fine over here with any setting.
-
The settings on the Helix are only relevant in case you record via SPDIF, otherwise you can leave them at any setting. I would rather try to raise the buffer size in Reaper (and obviously not record at sample rates higher than 44.1kHz or 48kHz, to keep the CPU load in check).

Fwiw, if the hottest of all your pickups never exceeds 0dB, even when banging all strings full stop, there's no need to worry.
-
Well, with a guitar providing a signal this hot, it'd possibly be the best idea to use the Guitar In Pad. Too bad it's a global setting and hence will affect all your patches, but still, I would do this. There's no better times than these to re-adjust your patches.

2.9 Helix-HX Command Center Snapshots/Preset Tutorial

And fwiw, yes, I absolutely believe that this will become a game changer for my live patches. Just that I won't be able to try things out for a year to come or so... -

Fwiw, IMO this is a perfect addition for quarantine/lockdown times, too. Why? Because you can now use the looper (one of my best quarantine friends, neither of the two of us needs to wear a mask, either) without permanently having to go back and forth between modes should you want to alter something in the patch. Also, as someone with an almost worthless left foot (no, it's not dysfunctional by any means, but my rightfoot-orientation is very strong), I absolutely enjoy being able to place the most important looper commands next to the EXP pedal. -
Well, all it'd take was an additional enveloper - these usually aren't very CPU intensive. For test runs of such things I'm using the one coming with Logic and it's barely using any CPU. Did that already, it's quite a different thing. The repeats will still have the full transients of the attacks.
-
I know that one, fantastic delay. No offense, but I thought this thread was about FX we'd like to see inside the Helix. I mean, most others mentioned here are available already as well - so we could all add them to our gigantic pedalboards. Anyway, for a start I'd even be fine with a refined swell block, offering lower attack times. Would have to sacrifice a parallel path for that setup, though.
-
I would love a delay with an envelope/attack shaper for the input signal. Similar to a swell delay but just "smearing" the very first attack of the notes. The result being a delay that isn't adding too much of a rhythmic quality by repeating all the attack transients. In case someone's interested, I could post a sound example of this.
-
Well, just place them side by side, duplicate their settings (if possible) and compare.
-
Well, for me it's really not too relevant whether they were modeled after the same hardware, I only care about the sonic differences. For instance, the legacy script phase is quite a bit more bassy than the genuine HX one, so I use them for different purposes. And fwiw, all my reverbs are legacy ones. I'm used to them from my M13 days and getting along just fine.
-
Sure, I'm aware of that - but as they're sonically different, they don't exactly qualify as duplicates in my book.
-
Well, perhaps they're meant to be modeled after the same original, but they're sounding very different (at least partially).

HELIX MODELS LIST - [2.91] All models and real reference table
SaschaFranck replied to RobyRocks's topic in Helix
I agree. As I usually work with a fixed input impedance, it's good to know what impedance which models were meant to introduce. -
Which ones are duplicated? I can't find any.

How to set guitar volume in mix (Helix is USB interface)
SaschaFranck replied to AgingOrange's topic in Helix
Yeah, might be a hassle, depending on how many patches you're using. But it might be worth it in the end.- 9 replies
