Convolution reverbs aren't able to capture a Leslie, either. Anything non-linear can't be captured by typical IRs.

Helix as a recording interface. Cracks and pops
SaschaFranck replied to MyNameIsCharon's topic in Helix
Well, I would in any case check with different USB cables (and ports, if available) as well. As we all know, the Helix is quite sensible when it comes to those (as an example: I can run my Zoom UAC-2 just fine through a HUB, using any average USB cable - the Helix won't work under these conditions). -
The input amplification could be broken.

Helix as a recording interface. Cracks and pops

See, while these tips are great to squeeze the last ounces of performance out of a system, ever since Win 10, things usually work fine out of the box - just as they seem to do with the OPs Behringer. There's very little reason to assume the Helix would not work on the very same machine, unless its drivers were plain bad - which, from all I know, they aren't. -
Helix as a recording interface. Cracks and pops

In case the Behringer is working fine, you shouldn't have to optimze your computer. You should rather check whether you're running the latest Helix driver and possibly try another sequencer for testing purposes, too. Cakewalk is for free and possibly not a bad idea anyway. -
I don't understand that. What do you mean by "shows only IR 1024 or IR 2048"? What does it look like when you select the IR block? Not like this?

Amps sound muddy without a boost/overdrive

Yeah, that too. -

You could post some DI sniplets so people could give things a try. -
Did you set the volume block to "Logarithmic" rather than "Linear" (which is the default)? That should adress the issue.
-
That is weird. The difference should be pretty noticeable.

VIDEO: Boss ES-8 controlling HX Effects, Stomp, and Zoom MX-70CDR
SaschaFranck replied to optofonik's topic in Helix
Cool. How do you control the MS-70? -
This isn't possible. Even if the switch is showing up in Command Center, you can't assign anything to it (so it's quite weird that it's showing up at all).
-
No. All you can do is to deactivate the flashing entirely.

Yeah well, I was wondering myself, too. But then, I couldn't help it, festival stuff and soundguys you don't know. There is. But I'm reserving the global EQ for my monitoring.

Fwiw, this is raising another issue/wish of mine: I fail to see why there isn't a separate volume control for the XLR outs once you decouple them from the volume knob. Would make plenty of sense. I've already been running into a situation where the FOH dude was asking me for more than just mic level (which I'm usually using as well) but line level's been too strong already. Did only happen twice so far, but still. Should be not much of an efffort to add this.
-
Fwiw, this is also related to parameters automatically becoming controlled by snapshots once you assign MIDI controls to them - which, in all honesty, makes zero sense.
-
That's only relevant in case you go to your DAW per SPDIF Quite high numbers in my book. I can run HXN fine with 32 samples on a 10 year old computer (not a Windows machine, though).
-
Hm, so you could possibly just raise the overall volume and call it a day, no?
-
Ok, that makes sense. Might have a look into it later on.
-
I didn't notice anything like that - but then, I didn't really watch any input meters carefully at all. Are they all attanuated by the same amount?
-
Yeah, Boss pedals make up for decent buffered splitters. Personally, I used to use my Whammy II, which has an excellent buffer IMO.

These are completely different patches. I'm not sure why you expect them to sound the same...

Please need help choosing the right IR pack

In case you've got some time on your hands, you could learn how to manipulate and mix IRs (in ways exceeding the MixIR software by a fair margin). I'd happily supply a "how to". -
Please need help choosing the right IR pack
SaschaFranck replied to willyjacksonjs22's topic in Helix
Fwiw, I won't recommend any specific IR pack (personally, I'm absolutely happy with the Redwirez Big Pack I purchased somewhat around 10 years ago), but once you go for a larger pack, IMO it's absolutely crucial to find some ways to quickly scroll through IRs. Your DAW (in case you use one, which I highly recommend) and a decent IR loading plugin are your best friends here. The IR loading plugin should offer an easy way to take you at least through one folder of IRs quickly (using some arrow buttons or so) and ideally you should be able to load more than one IR at a time for easier comparison (or mixing purposes, maybe more on that later...). You could now record a take without any cab stuff (you can still monitor with a cab inside the Helix but set a split to a USB output pair placed before the cab) and go through a whole bunch of IRs without having to play. I would now mark these IRs and copy them to a personal favourite folder. Once you have a plenty of them collected, drag them into adjacent IR slots in the Helix (ever since firmware 2.9 you can re-order IRs as much as you like without breaking other patches, making maneuvers such as this a piece of cake). Now, once your favourites are inside the Helix, use pedal mode and go through them using the +/- switches. This allows you to quickly go through a lot of IRs and actually experience how they feel under your fingertips.
