  1. Both the HX Effects and Helix floor units have VERY low self noise. I’m quite impressed.
  2. I built a second version of this rig—this one is a 1x12 open backed cab with Jensen Neo Tornado speaker in a pine cabinet. So total weight is 27 pounds including SS power amp. Back saver! I have now had a chance to play a live gig with this rig with great results. From Helix I go 1/4” out to cabinet for stage volume, and via cab/mic block to XLR out direct to PA. Sounded great to me with my 64ears IEMs in one ear. Band members were happy, FOH guy was happy, I got compliments from two guitarists from other local bands, and from venue owner afterward.
  3. Simple Pitch module, set to -12 or +12. Control with foot pedal for whammy effect.
  4. Thanks for the research! From the product page: I can deal with 10-20ms delay on a guitar feed, but for voice, it's a showstopper. Glad you're having fun with it!
  5. You can have a single patch that includes a 1/4” out for your amp that does not include cab/mic block, and a separate XLR out for the house PA that does include cab/mic sim.
  6. I can sympathize with the OP. I play in two classic rock cover bands, with a combined repertoire of 100 songs that continues to grow. Also, we often choose songs based on the mood of the audience, so having a predetermined set list often goes out the window. I also wanted to emulate my old pedalboard with a dozen or so stomps for greatest flexibility. Often there’s no time between songs to go searching for the right preset for a particular song. The Arduino microcomputer is a flexible and inexpensive platform for DIY MIDI stuff. Years ago I made my own foot controller for a 2880 looper.
  7. Ha! New feature request: scrolling lyrics for forgetful singers!
  8. I had the same problem with HX Effects when using it in a live gig. I upgraded to Helix, so can’t test the issue any more, sorry!
  9. True! The ability to mimic my OCD pedal was what sold me on moving to Helix away from my pedalboard. And the OCD in the Helix is delightfully responsive to guitar volume, in a way that my real pedal is not.
  10. Just confirmed that HX Edit does not offer a solution. Low frequency parameter still steps by 10Hz, no way to set 137Hz.
  11. This Global EQ setting is ONLY for practice in my office. And I agree with your comments about acoustics. I was just asking about fine adjustments on the Helix.
  12. Where I practice in my office/studio, I have my walls treated with rock wool absorbers. But No treatment on the ceiling and floor. This leaves an aggressive mode at 137Hz. I always have to notch this frequency out of my recordings. I remembered the Global EQ feature on the Helix, and made the same tweak, and it improved the sound. However, I can only choose between 130Hz and 140Hz on the Helix. Is there a “fine” adjustment method so I can hit 137Hz? Seem to remember reading about that, but can’t find it in the manual.

    Stomp Box mode

Of course! This is the first thing I wanted to do, also! First, go to Global Settings > Footswitches > Stomp Mode Switches = 10 switches (or not, if you only want to use 8 stomps). Next, in your preset, assign each module to a footswitch. Press the menu button, then press Bypass Assign. Use the joystick to select an effect, then use the Switch knob to choose footswitch 1-5, 7-11.
  14. It's an Avatar cab with an oval opening--I already had the hole covered by plywood to make it a closed back cab, which I prefer for this cab. I just swapped the plywood for the aluminum backplate. Not much change, if any.
  15. Forgot to mention, total weight of amp, power supply, and aluminum backplate is 4 pounds 5 ounces. Very light! I did add a switch for the fan--now I can silence it for in-house practice. Nice addition.
  16. I build a solid state amp for use with Helix, and installed it inside my 2x12 cab, so I have a convenient combo of sorts. Parts came from parts-express.com, and include: Sure Electronics AA-AB31194 1x300W Class D Audio Amplifier Board - T-Amp Qualtek QPDF-320-36 Switching Power Supply 36 VDC 8.8A 320W Single Output The sound is as I expected: low noise floor, good clarity and punch, plenty of power to spare. I am less happy about the fan in the power supply, which will never be noticed on stage, but is audible in my quiet room, and therefore a bit annoying. I may wire a fan on/off switch. I played loud for an hour, and there is no appreciable heat felt in the chassis.
  17. Yes, I'm using the preamp models lately, no cab model, and the 1/4" out from Helix goes to my amp's FX return (so I'm using it as a power amp only). I'm finding this works nicely with both tube amps and solid state also (Crate Power Block FX return). When turning the gain down and the volume up, this is really tricking my ear into hearing...and feeling!...like I'm playing the real thing.

    Boot time?

Yeah, it's rare, but happens, even when you play only 30 or 40 gigs a year like me. Some rube kicks out a power cord, or you trip a GFCI circuit, or overload a breaker. I agree, not a big deal...but a deal, nonetheless.

    Boot time?

Old thread, but was curious if my Helix was in the ballpark. With firmware 2.52, my boot time is 17.5 seconds.
  20. Right, I'm trying to get the looper to loop both guitar and voice. But I ran out of DSP power when using Path 1 only, thus the problem.
  21. I'm trying to set up a patch for guitar and voice using one DSP for each, then summed to a single path so I can follow with a looper and reverb, and output as a mono sum. I started with the Guitar + Vocals template, but I can't figure out how to merge the two paths.
  22. On a whim I plugged the headphone output from my Helix floor unit into my 4-ohm, 2x12 speaker cabinet. Instant practice amp. The headphone out drives the cabinet perfectly well for low volume practice--no amp required.
  23. +1 clipping indicators. Really great idea.
