You can just use the return in jack and a guitar cable. But in order to use L6-Link (for the audio only- no control yet) you would need to use DT-Edit software via midi connection and zero out the amp and cabs, reverb and mics.

LOL I say just get and use what you like and are happy with, and appreciate that there ARE many options instead of being stuck in only one method of sound reproduction.

Here's the deal, real amps and cabs will not sound like headphones or studio monitors unless they are EQ'ed. They sound like amps and cabs as they are supposed to. So if you set up Helix to sound good thru a real amp and cabinet, generally speaking, It will sound like lollipop thru studio monitors or headphones. The reverse is also true. So there is a choice to be made. Since you are not playing out I'd get a good pair of studio monitors. I use an old pair of Mackie HR824's and they sound killer for my daw. They also match in frequency/tone my FireHawk 1500 amp, because this amp is made to be like an "FRFR" flat sounding powered multiple speaker systems in a box setup. Thus I have very very little tonal difference between my daw sound and my FH-1500 amp sound (besides the stereo spread). I hope I have explained this where it will help you decide which way to go, because once you dial Helix in its just awesome stuff!

Just because you have 1000w+ versions doesn't mean yer pumping 1000 watts out. It's there for the punch/headroom.

So the question is why does a USB serial comms bus crash Helix?
-
This ^^^ and the Bogner La Grange pedal are what I want in my Helix FX loop.

The 1st 2 months after Helix's release, Line 6 already knew about this issue. They know it's still happening now too cause they test and read the forums. They will find it, and eventually, fix it. But don't for one second think they don't already know it's happening. Yea pure speculation but If I had to guess It's a memory leak of sorts in the Helix OS.

I'm afraid I can't confirm or deny that... ;)

I've used mine on nothing but a Mac and it has frozen up. So it not just related to the PC or its driver DirtFarmer.
-
I had all 3. Now I have my Helix.

Have you tried swapping the tip with the sleeve wires in the EV5? That might work.

Having the Axe FX II and Helix ( and Kemper) in the marketplace can only make it better for us players in the long run. Competition is a GOOD thing, ;)

Ok, check the port on the back of Helix. The controller port is the SAME size as the Variax port (and right next to each other). Make sure you are not connected into the Variax port with the controller cable.

You did have Helix control OFF (step #4) when you updated Helix, correct? Helix Firmware 2.12 Release Notes (Released Jan 9, 2017) Helix v2.12.0 is a firmware update that includes fixes, stability improvements, and optimizations. It is highly recommended that all Helix users perform this update! IMPORTANT! YOU *MUST* FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL 2.12! 1. Shut down all Line 6 software as well as any software that streams audio, including, but not limited to: iTunes, Spotify, DAWs, browsers, etc. 2. Use your CURRENT EXISTING Helix application to back up all of your presets and IRs (if you want to keep them). For example, if you’re running Helix FW 2.01, your current Helix application version should be 2.01. NOTE: You may want to back up individual Setlists so you can restore them to empty setlists without affecting the 2.12 factory presets. 3. Quit the CURRENT EXISTING Helix editor application and download and install the latest Helix editor application (2.11), available here: http://line6.com/software/ This also installs the newest version of Line 6 Updater (1.10). 4. If you’re using Helix Rack with Helix Control, turn off Helix Control. 5. Using the latest Line 6 Updater (1.10), update Helix/Helix Rack to the newest firmware (2.12). At the end of the update process, Helix/Helix Rack will reboot automatically and begin rebuilding presets. Wait for this process to complete. 6. If you’re using Helix Control with Helix Rack, connect and power on Helix Control. The inspector will ask if you want to update its firmware. Press Knob 6 (OK). Wait for the update to finish. YOU MUST RESET GLOBALS AND RESTORE PRESETS, OTHERWISE HELIX 2.12 WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY. DO IT. DO IT NOW: 7. To reset globals and restore presets, turn off Helix/Helix Rack. HELIX FLOOR ONLY: While holding footswitches 9 and 10 (middle two switches on the bottom row), turn on Helix. Wait for the message “Will reset Globals and restore stock Presets, Setlists and IRs…†to appear and let go. HELIX RACK ONLY: While holding knobs 5 and 6 below the screen, turn on Helix Rack. Wait for the message “Will reset Globals and restore stock Presets, Setlists and IRs…†to appear and let go. 8. Using the latest Helix editor application (2.11), restore the user presets you backed up in step 2.

If you think Helix is ruff, that model you posted above for Helix might be about half of the preamp section adjustments on an Axe FX II... ;)

I don't blame you a bit for that thought after two of them. If it continues to do this I would return it again. At some point QA will get their lollipop handed to them when enough of these units get returned. OTOH, it's also just possible you have had really bad luck. Is it too late to exchange it cause that's what I would do.

Dunno if this helps or not but just replace the Fryette with 2 amp heads (or two Fryette's...

I've almost purchased Strymon products a time or two. Then I watched a few videos showing "Helix versus Strymon" effects on You Tube. The differences were there alright, but NOT to the tune of $500.00 a pedal. As always, YMMV. Eating my own hat here- At some point, common sense must kick in even if money shouldn't matter tone wise. ;)

Ummm unless that FOH guy is the same guy that did SRV... :P
-
Just speaking in general ams. Of course your right on the disagree in specifics.

Using a pair of good headphones, studio monitors or decent FRFR speakers with a good cab simulation after the amp should not sound harsh. Is it just Line 6 products that sound that way to you are other guitar processors as well? I'm asking for a specific reason. I'm sure this will not fit well in being polite and jovial and so Iup front I mean no offense, but perhaps it's more the ear, than the gear? I only say that because it's not the first piece of gear that has affected you in this way, although it is just Line 6. Or is it? No offense, but this isn't usually what people hear from Helix.

No train... No even a Caboose. Just an observation.

Getting anxious and nervous with Helix enroute.....long time Fractal guy!
spikey replied to HudsonHawk's topic in Helix
I don't miss the Axe FX II XL+ that I once had Hudson. I thought at first like you, that I might. Currently, once you dial in Helix, you won't need much else guitar processor wise. Welcome! -

Sure they did, and the buying out of Line 6 check proves it. You don't think they just invested into a company without some serious time and specific background info do ya? I betting they knew what Line 6 was developing months if not years before they wrote the check. Now O course, that doesn't mean that the devs at L6 didn't do all the work... ;)
