  1. I have a JTV59, And like all guitars it has its ups and downs. I think peoples problems with the variax is that its trying to be everything, And it cannot be. I don't look at the models as what they are supposed to represent ( more as a different tonal pallet). People tend to freak out cause the acoustic doesn't sound like a real accoustic or their strat sounds different than the model on the variax so its not right. Some variax's like other guitars have their own characteristics that carry over to what the guitar sounds and what its playability is like. You can take two Identical model guitars(fender gibson whatever) and play them back to back and you will find variations between them. I feel that my 59 works just fine yeah there are things I wish it did better but you take the good with the bad and move on. ( same goes with the updates)
  2. Its actually pretty good quality both their cases and guitars. If I just wanted a normal electric guitar I would have stuck with their les paul (hollow body knockoff) plays really good sounded good too. And about a quarter of the price... But I wanted something more flexible like the Variax...
  3. Here is the link to the one I use it fits it perfectly and its reasonable priced 74.00 http://www.guitarfetish.com/Tweed-Hard-Shell-Case-fits-Les-Paul-XV-500-XV-700-Real-Cloth-tweed_p_2197.html
  4. JTV-59 tobacco I would say it bounces around a 4.2 for me. Each update gets better and worst at the same time. I try to take the updates with a grain of salt and realize I will have to redo my patches each time I do it. There are times where I think the guitar sounds like crap but I switch guitars and play my strat or my hollowbody and reallise it sounds the same as the models when recorded. So I just go back to the 59 and live with it. I like the 59 for recording cause of how quiet it is. And I must admit with the last update I feel the guitar models behave more like real guitars (muting, and pedal notes and such)..
  5. Back when I was playing my strat I actually Blocked the trem with wood in the cavity. I blocked both sides of the trem block but if you intend on using the trem just block the side that rests closest to the body.. I think its about a quarter inch thick.. I like it better this way cause the bridge is level and you get better tone and vibrations.. Good luck though
  6. You might try it, ( the heat shrink thing) your only out a set of strings if it doesn't work... If you feel you have problems with sympathetic resonances, try to look out side of the box. Some people just don't notice it for me it drove me nuts.. In all actuality I felt putting the velcro on the bridge did more to cure the issue than behind the nut but each to their own. Good luck though..
  7. Well i am stoked it helped I think for some it does and some it doesn't.... I never cared for all the funky vibrations I was getting on it ( it transfered to easlily throught the piezo pickups)..
  8. I admire your ability to transplant the JTV guts, But Its a unfair comparison a USA model and a put together warmoth. When you go to sell it you would get allot more for a USA variax than a warmoth. I often see warmoth guitars online for sale for about a quarter of what they paid for it if they are lucky. For most guitar players Warmoth is not a familiar name brand unlike Fender Gibson that retain their value more. Also I am not sure if warmoth offers set neck guitars like the JTV59, I think they are all bolt on necks. Which that amount is allot to pay for a bolt on neck guitar. Just my 2 cents but very cool guitar..
  9. I was really disappointed with the dream rig, I actually just kept the HD500 and the JTV59 but returned the amp. It rendered the acoustic centric tones useless. Even the electrics sounded bad, could barely tell the difference between models. And in my own personal opinion digitally processed preamps sound horrible running through a tube power section. Don't get me wrong I love all tube amps but I think digital preamps should just use a solid state power section. I think eventually I will get a L2M. That has the range to get the full experience of all the guitar tones and amps sounds.
  10. http://line6.com/support/thread/57443 here is a link to an old post explaining the issues...
  11. Originally when it was coming out they showed it having a black bridge but I think do to manufacturing issues they had to stick with the chrome, that's what I read years ago anyways... I have never seen in person the black bridge in fact I don't think I have seen a single picture with a black bridge.. ( besides advertisements)...
  12. I was actually gonna suggest that but you beat me to it Damn... I have to do it occasionally when downloading corrupted movies..
  13. At one point in time based on the original Variax they had a rack system called the RackVax ( you can google it). Its the closest to what you are talking about that I have seen. The problem is the piezo pickup system that picks up each individual string so that it can be digitally processed separately is needed. I think the Rackvax uses a Midi pickup or something not sure never seen one first hand...
  14. This is just my experience I ordered the Dream rig system. And I was disappointed with the DT25. I have had tube amps in the Past, But never one with a digital preamp with a tube power section. I didn't care for it at all and on top of it I wanted a dream rig system not just limited set up. ( acoustics sounded terrible) which I kinda expected just not as bad as it was. I also didn't like having to make up different patches for the DT25 and separate ones for direct recording. I think the l2m or l2t is the way to go. But each to their own. oh and I returned the DT25 but kept the rest..
  15. Yeah back in the nineties I had a few floyd rose guitars that were floating. talk about a pain to change strings, I think that's where I started one at a time. But yeah I get your drift about the neck damage, But in his defense when you get your info from others who knows what they will tell you. I have heard some crazy stuff in all my years. And the sad part is allot of it comes from articles from our Idols. I think I read once that Eddie Van Halen told a reporter that He would boil his strings in milk or some crazy thing like that.. For instance some people probable think I am an idiot for the things I say. But enough gab for now
  16. Oh by the way I was gonna ask have you tried just running the HD500 with headphones with out the DT25 seeing if its maybe the DT25..
  17. I actually had problems with the sounds in the video above but after I did the velcro thing it dissipated. As far as changing strings I change em one at a time but when I put the velcro on it I did them all at once. Its no biggie, take in mind I am not a luthier I am just a hobbyist. I think everyone has a opinion on how to do things you just have to find you own way. I posted the picture of my bridge I used a heavy duty adhesive velcro and cut it about 1/8 of a inch wide. Laid it across right up next to piezo.
  18. you had mentioned the lester model when this happens, Does it happen with all models or just the lester. If its kinda a high pitch gliss type of sound You could change the impedance settings on the HD500 to lower the top end a little. ( you have to use the guitar input though not VDI cable) I have noticed a change in the highs when I mess with the impedance setting. it says in the manual the lower the settings act as a attenuater for high frequencies. it may help reduce it possibly. I really wish I could hear it though that would help allot. is it the same sound as in this video.. http://youtu.be/ldaIK3gUlXM
  19. is it on all tones you make up or only distorted tones. Do you get it with perfectly clean tones no effects or amp emulations going.. just plane variax going... cause I have seen videos of some of these phenomenon ringing and I think some of its caused by their settings they are running the variax through. Similar to phase cancellation. Odd Ringing or almost doubling effects.. I am not saying that's it just trying to find more information to figure out whats going on by isolating the occurrence to help find the culprate.
  20. I guess I should have just looked up the manuals for the L2m cause in that it states by default it uses both left and right channels when using a single speaker Via line6 link. if you use 2 it splits it but at 3 the second speaker has both left and right channels but the other 2 are split. now I just have to find out if a single mackie would get both channels via XLR cable..
  21. I did a search through the forums and nothing came up on the subject. I originally had the dream rig system but returned the dt25 amp ( didn't like the limitations but that's another subject). Mean while I want to get a good monitor I would like to get the L2m but Mackie has some really nice ones for sale through sweetwater for less than half the price. If I connect my Hd500 to a L2m would I get both left and right signals with the line6 link cable. Cause some of my patches are in stereo ( I don't need the stereo separation just the signal from both channels). If I go with the mackie it would connect with the Xlr cable ( which I don't think carries both signals so I would need 2 or them to get both channels across). I am not sure if I am correct on any of this..
  22. Hey thanks for the info, I have been using the crappy cable that came with the variax it would be nice to have something a bit more rugged...
  23. Wow those mods you guys have made are amazing I am terrified of messing with the electronics parts on the variax, (pickups ect.). I am fine with a traditional guitar but I am afraid of damaging the modeling components. I haven't even opened up the back panels to look inside. I changed some hardware but that's about it... Kudos though awesome work..
