A buddy of mine named Paul has a large collection of guitars. He is also a guitar tech and I was at his place one day while he was doing some work on my guitar. He was talking about his most recent visit to an auction sale where there were several guitars available. He said he wanted to buy more but in the end he settled on one Les Paul. His wife, overhearing the conversation, said “That’s what I need - one less Paul.”

Your thread is visible to me in the Helix forum. Don’t know why you wouldn’t be able to see it. Click on your avatar to bring you to your personal profile page. All your postings should be visible there.

There’s no right or wrong answer here. Experiment and go with whatever sounds best to you. The traditional setup would be to turn the cab sim off in your POD Go preset.

I guess this is the default behaviour then. Not a bug but a design decision. The best way to get this changed is to submit the suggestion to Ideascale.

Please clarify what your issue is and provide more info about your physical setup. You say it has stopped outputting yet there is output. Confusing.

Actually it controls the level of the signal as it leaves the VOL block at its position in the signal chain. Using the Firehawk app you can drag the Vol pedal to place it at the beginning of the signal chain, or at least in front of the amp. Then it will behave the way you want.

One of the models in the Dynamics section is called Autoswell. I would start with that.

Not sure how much detail you require, but the general method would be to use the Helix Command Center to send the appropriate MID commands at the desired time (loading a Helix preset, or snapshot, or stomping on a footswitch). The Helix manual describes that. And the manual for your Marshal amp details the exact MIDI commands it needs to receive for switching modes. Start there and if you have specific questions come back and ask.

Sometimes it’s a connector ribbon that has come loose inside. Since it’s no longer under warranty you might want to open it up for inspection. Just be careful and keep track of how to reassemble.
-
Since it’s a new unit I would make sure the firmware and the HX Edit program are fully updated to version 3.15. Sometimes issues like yours result from the editor and the firmware being different numeric versions.

Sounds like it could be a USB connectivity issue. Try other USB ports on your computer, and avoid using any usb hubs - even internal ones. On a desktop that generally means using a USB port on the rear panel of the computer, not the front panel where there's often an internal hub behind it.

Mac rules and Windows sucks! Or, wait …. Is it the other way around?

Helix Floor presets into Helix Native without the hardware unit
silverhead replied to jadoth's topic in Helix Native
You will need to have a Helix device connected to your computer in order to run HX Edit and use the ‘Extract from Backup’ feature. Since yours was stolen you might borrow one or make arrangements with a local dealer to bring your computer in and connect to one of their demo models. -
Bug: Snapshots changing parameter values on their own
silverhead replied to pipelineaudio1's topic in Helix
For me it was just the Global Reset, holding down 5 & 6 when restarting. -
Also, the processing applied to each Variax model is probably different. I would expect to be hearing a Fender amp for a Fender guitar, a Marshall amp for a Gibson, a Vox for the Rickenbacker, etc. All intended to provide the listener with very familiar and great classic sounds. “You, too, can sound like this! All you need is a Variax!” Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Just marketing.

Unless someone from the small group of Line 6 employees who created those sound files so many years ago shows up here, you will need to open a support ticket and hope that/those persons can be tracked down and are willing to share their memories of the event. Otherwise I don't know of any way to get the details. However, a few minutes ago I posted an example to CustomTone. Search for my name. The preset is called D28 DI XLR and there are comments describing the physical setup. Try this with the Variax model Acoustic 1 and some of the many free acoustic guitar IRs that are available through the link I provide in the CustomTone Comments for the preset. Not saying you will find that it sounds good to you using your Variax and different equipment.... but sounds good to me in my studio using my actual Martin and a DI box to the Helix mic input. The most important thing is the simplicity of the preset structure. With the Looper I use it to practice my acoustic lead solos. btw... you will also see some other acoustic guitar presets I have used in the past for specific purposes.

I tend to use a Gain block for a solo boost. If I want just the volume boost I place it at the end of the signal chain. If I want it to also affect the tone I put it before the amp or a specific pedal. Never tried using the Noise Gate.

Bug: Snapshots changing parameter values on their own
silverhead replied to pipelineaudio1's topic in Helix
I was having some issues with strange snapshot parameters behaviour a few weeks ago. A factory reset solved it. Make sure you back up appropriately first. -
There is no default for this. The snapshot that is active when you last Saved the preset is the active snapshot when you next recall the preset. If you always want Snapshot 1 to be active when you load the preset then manually visit each preset, activate Snapshot 1, and then Save the preset. When doing a show, don’t save the preset before you leave it.

The basic guitar sounds are produced by the Variax guitar but there’s certainly additional processing (amp/cab, compression, EQ, reverb, etc.) applied to the tone you hear in the links you provide. Those sound recordings have been around long before Helix was around so it’s definitely not Helix in the background Typically Line 6 is uses minimal additional processing when they highlight their product sounds but those recordings definitely have amps and perhaps other equipment involved. No way to know exactly what it is unless they tell us, and I don’t see that. For acoustic guitars the IR, and it’s placement within the signal chain, can have a dramatic effect. Acoustic patches are typically quite simple. No guitar amp, but the Studio Tube preamp, a bit of compression and reverb, and some EQ to tame the piezos. Both Customtone and Helix Marketplace have some acoustic guitar patches, with Marketplace being better quality imho.

You don’t need to install anything. The HD Packs are already embedded in the device firmware. But you do need the License Manager to unlock the Metal Pack in the firmware. Are you sure you are logged into the same Line 6 account that you were using when you purchased the Metal Pack? Have you tried re-installing the License Manager? If you still can’t get it working I would open a support ticket.
-
Do you have any add-on licenses that need managing? If not, I believe the License Manager is behaving correctly. Your computer is authorized. The HD ProX itself does not need a license and so is not reported; I think that’s normal. Is there a specific problem that you’re having with a license?
-
This is likely a hardware problem. I would open a support ticket.

There’s no solution because there’s no problem. Read my earlier post. If you buy software that is clearly described as not compatible with your hardware, don’t be surprised when you can’t use it.
