fyi....I am not seeing any issue with this preset loaded into my Helix Rack. Everything seems to be behaving normally here. All footswitches working as expected when switching to/from this preset, and no device crash. Update: The problem appeared when I tried to delete this preset after playing around with it. No problems while testing it, but I decided I didn't want to keep it on my device so I tired pasting a New Preset in its place. That's when HX Edit generated an error message. At that point both HX Edit and the Helix Rack became unresponsive.

You can go straight to the latest version of HX Edit which is v3.15. I suggest you update both HX Edit and your Helix device. You will find detailed installation instructions on the Downloads pages. Start by downloading and installing HX Edit v3.15 and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Patches designed for acoustic guitar - your favorites? Or favorite settings?
silverhead replied to tjbassoon's topic in Helix
What themetallikid and datacommando said. I find I need to be careful with the Tube Pre-amp Gain I find it can cause unwanted distortion if you need to boost guitar input very much. I compensate by increasing the level of the Output block. The two most important things: don’t use a guitar amp model, and don’t route the output to a guitar amp. And if you’re willing to pay a bit you can get some well crafted acoustic tones including some custom IRs in the Helix Marketplace. -
Yeah. I think a used battery powered Pocket Pod (about $50 Cdn used) which can literally be carried in your pocket, sitting on top of whatever other piece of equipment you want would satisfy the tonal quality and expectations for the busking crowd. Using Helix is not likely to improve your donations/tips. If you need vocals use a PA speaker with a mic input. Or, wait for the day that some drunken tourist spills his beer on your Helix….

Make sure your Helix firmware, HX Edit software, and Helix Native software are all compatible. The latest version of each is v3.15
-
The English version for v3 firmware is version F. It appears a little further down the list of available manuals on the Support -> Manuals -> Helix page.

I recognize the name of that preset. Is it your creation? If not, where did you get it? The identically named preset that I know of is a paid purchase from the Helix Marketplace. I know because I bought the package containing it a few years ago. Two things about it: - if you didn’t purchase a license for it from the creator it won’t load into HX Edit properly. That shouldn’t make your Helix device crash but the preset won’t work for you. - if you did purchase it you shouldn’t be sharing it publicly here (although, as said above - anyone who doesn’t have a license for it will be unable to use it). If it’s licensed to you and not working properly you should contact the author/creator on Helix Marketplace. I’m not going to try to do anything with it unless you confirm that the identical name is a coincidence, and that this is not a licensed preset.

I don’t see the preset. Please check that it is attached.

Unless you are sure that this is exactly the same problem reported above, please open a new topic and provide details of exactly what you are experiencing. If you have a specific preset that exhibits your problem attach it to your post so that we can help you troubleshoot it.

Yes, this does sound like a bug. Please open a Support Ticket to bring this directly to the attention of Line 6 Technical Support.

I don’t think you can have two independent input blocks though, can you? So you can’t independently process two different inputs. But you can process the same input in parallel paths, as you say. Please correct me if I am mistaken. It’s not clear whether this is what the OP was asking about but it occurred to me.

I’m guessing it would be the ones modelled on an actual Marshall amp. Here’s a website that can help you determine which ones those are. www.helixhelp.com

Strange sounds!
silverhead replied to cluelessness's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
What you are hearing is the unaltered tuning of the natural string vibration. If you're hearing it on the E and B strings you can likely hear it on the other strings as well. You'll be surprised at how well your ears pick up the natural acoustic sound. To convince yourself, you can do a few things to block the acoustic sound of the strings: turn the volume up really loud; wear closed back headphones; record a sample (only the altered tuning will be recorded). -
Actually, the title you chose for this thread is more accurate. This is Steinberg’s decision. Are you expecting all plug-in producers in the world to adapt to Steinberg’s decision and update their old plugins to VST3? Or do you just want to single out Line 6? Other DAW manufacturers will follow in time. As you say, the future is VST3 (at least for now). But I understand that you’d rather place blame on anyone but Steinberg. You have good reason to want to continue with Cubase. There are plenty of VST3 compatible plugins, including Helix Native. But to continue with Cubase you will no longer be able to use Pod Farm (or any other non-VST3 plug-in) at the point that Steinberg stops supporting VST2.

Can you be more specific? ‘Everything’ is a bit broad. What exactly are you doing when this error is generated? Does the Edit program open at all, or does this error occur immediately upon opening? What happens if you hit the OK button? My first guess is that your version of Pod GO Edit is different from the installed firmware version. Check your versions using the ‘About…’ feature in Pod GO Edit. If the versions are the same we need more details to help you.

Also you can find generally higher quality presets available at reasonable cost in the Helix Marketplace website.

I really don’t know much about Fractal. How many products do they have?
-
Sorry… there’s no ‘but’ about it. Having said that, I don’t personally have any information about it. Having said that, that’s exactly what I’d be required to say even if I did. So you’re not going to get a definitive answer. And any answer you do get is pure speculation (as BAmartin acknowledged) unless you hear it from a Line 6 employee who is either authorized to say it or is about to lose their job.

Some tones are not working when I go wireles on my pod go
silverhead replied to wobrien54's topic in POD Go
Check the setting on the Input block. If your presets are set to use just the Guitar input the wireless input is ignored. When using wireless make sure the Input setting is Wireless or Guitar+Wireless. -
Yes, a constant issue in the computing industry. All manufacturers discontinue support for all software and hardware products eventually. Anything else you purchase now will also be discontinued eventually. But you do have another short term option that you didn’t mention. Instead of switching your plug-in you could switch your DAW from Steinberg to some other DAW that still supports VST2. Or, simply don’t upgrade your version of Cubase when the new release drops VST2 support. You could also post this in the Steinberg forums and encourage them to revisit their decision.

I believe you can transfer the Helix Native license associated with your Helix Floor as long as you have owned the Helix Floor for at least 6 months. I know there’s detailed information posted by Line 6 about doing this but I can’t seem to find it in the Knowledge Base at the moment. I suggest you open a support ticket to talk directly with Line 6 who will guide you through the license transfer possibility for your license and associated procedures. Your new (not used) Helix Stomp will allow you to purchase a new Helix Native license at the discounted price.

Yes, true. I have tried lower impedance headphones and they’re fine on their own but I find they are generally heavier on the low end and don’t match as well with FRFR speakers. Presets sound more alike when using either the headphones or speakers with the 990s. You’ll find lots of threads here discussing a dramatic difference in how presets sound, and associated preset tweaking required, when using headphones vs. FRFR speakers. I find the higher impedance phones deliver a more similar sound and don’t require tweaking. Easier for me to find settings that work well for both. I like the open-back nature of the 990s as well. I think that also contributes to the less boomy sound. I think any high impedance open back headphones will be good, not necessarily the 990s. I think those are the main features to look for. Comfort is also an important ergonomic factor. You might find something less costly from another manufacturer.

This has been my experience too. For recording, nothing beats a properly mic’d quality acoustic guitar. For live play I also like the convenience of the Variax. I’ve also found that I need to soften my playing style, especially strumming, to avoid some of the piezo nastiness. But very good results are achievable. The possibilities with Variax and Helix are amazing. Jethro Tull’s song Aqualung is a good example. My preset uses the Variax mag pickups in standard tuning in one path as well as a custom tuned Variax acoustic model in the other path. The Helix onboard pedal is assigned to blend the two sounds so I can instantly move from the standard tuned electric to the capo’ed acoustic. I should probably assign the move to a footswitch rather than the pedal because you really don’t want the blend of different tunings, but I’ve gotten used to the pedal and it works for me.

I use the DT 990 Pro phones and I’m very happy with them.

The physical outputs on Helix are labeled to indicate this. Outputs labeled L/Mono indicate that the signal is summed to mono if only that output in the stereo pair is used. Outputs that are not labeled as such carry only their side of the stereo signal. The manual clearly states that the Return blocks are mono. I expect the Send blocks are similar but I’m not sure. It may depend on whether you use a TS (mono) a or TRS (stereo) cable. To be sure it’s summed to mono you could place a mono FX block (e.g. Simple EQ) immediately before the Send block.
