  1. Probably it's not possible to get exactly the same tone. That's because of the different A/D and/or D/A conversions that are involved. The VDI signal will convert the Variax Mags from analog to digital as the signal leaves the Variax. The Pod HD will accept this signal in digital format. Conversely, the 1/4" output will send the Variax Mags signal in analog format, and the Pod HD will convert it to digital on Input. These are two different conversions which will not present exactly the same signal as input to the Pod HD DSP processing. However, I would expect the differences to be very minor and probably not noticeable to any ear other than an audio engineer's or an oscilloscope.
  2. A bigger display, and colour, would be great. But I wouldn't trade DSP power/capacity for it if that were necessary. I think it makes more sense to make a better PC-based Editor for that.
  3. I notice you started another thread describing a noise issue with passive pickups. I'm no electrical engineer but I'm wondering if the two symptoms might be related to an overall issue with your venue's (house, practice space, ...) power supply. You mention here that this is your 2nd Pod HD and that the first one was replaced due to an entire horizontal line of dead pixels. Was you first Pod HD used in the same venue as this one? Have you ever tried either Pod in a different venue with a different power supply? If not I suggest trying your current Pod in a different venue. What happens to the noise? I would follow Brazzy's suggestion: open a support ticket and describe both symptoms (pixels and noise).
  4. Try this: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/215659/
  5. There is one significant difference in the Pod HD in how it processes the VDI vs. Guitar Input. Only the Guitar Input has the Input-Z parameter; the VDI input does not. Perhaps the tonal difference that you are hearing in the mag pickups is a result of your Input-Z setting on the Guitar (1/4") input.
  6. In the Downloads section of this website, under the Support a tab at top of this page.
  7. Can you be more specific about what, exactly, the problem is? I too have difficulty understanding what 'not simply writes' means. Please provide details.
  8. I would just use headphones in the interim.
  9. Make sure you configure Reaper to use the HD Pro and it's ASIO driver as the audio device. Also connect your speakers/monitors (or headphones) to the HD Pro to monitor your sound.
  10. DarrellM5 is correct. I was over complicating things. With the Input set to Variax the VDI connection will send the output of the Variax to the POD, according to the Variax model knob setting. If modelling is turned on it sends the selected model; if modelling is off it sends the mags. You don't need to use different presets and you don't need to use Variax Mags as an Input if you just want to control the model/mags selection manually. Sorry for any confusion.
  11. Maybe it's just the power adapter (wall wart) that got damaged? Try testing that out first.
  12. I can answer one of your questions. No, the HD models are not available in any plug-in format, including Pod Farm.
  13. You use the Inputs to select models or mags. Selecting Variax as the input uses the model that is also assigned within the patch. Selecting Variax Mags uses the mag pickups. If you want to use a blend of model and mags you select both of these as Inputs. If you want to use either a model or the mags, not both, then you assign the one you want as one input and make sure the other input excludes the other setting.
  14. I would use 2 different presets if I wanted only the mags and then only the model during the same song.
  15. You should only see the message 'sync in progress' when you are connected via USB to the Edit program running on your computer. The fact that you are seeing this message explains the lag time between presets. If you have disconnected the USB and are still seeing this message I would first cycle the power on your Pod HD. If the problem remains after cycling the power I think you will need to reinstall the firmware on your POD HD. Before doing this, use the Edit program to save any custom presets/setlists to your computer so that you can reload them later. Then use Line 6 Monkey to help you reinstall the firmware. During this process choose to replace (not keep) your existing presets.
  16. In order to keep the changed settings you must SAVE the patch before leaving it. In other words, each time a preset is recalled it is recalled in the state that it was last SAVEd, which is not necessarily the state you last left it unless you SAVEd it before leaving.
  17. Congratulations - you may have found it. There may be a very simple fix. Try pulling off the model selector knob, placing a small bit of wadded paper inside the knob, and replacing the knob on the shaft. This has the effect of raising the knob on the shaft, which eliminates the 'sticking' that this knob has a tendency to do against the guitar body. This is a known tendency in some JTV models and is the cause of several anomalies in behaviour.
  18. I suspect it has something to do with overall USB traffic on your computer at the time of update. If there are any other USB-based applications or processes active at the time it may affect the Variax update. Try to disconnect all other USB devices while updating.
  19. Are you able to measure or estimate the actual delay in switching presets? It's normally in the range of a few milliseconds and easily adapted to by most players. I can't recall hearing before that it would be a deal breaker for anyone.
  20. Like stevekc says, with the VDI connected you can select either of the HD500 Inputs (1 and 2) to be either Variax (model is implied) or Variax Mags (self explanatory), or both. No need for the standard Guitar cable/input.
  21. This is normal. The GX becomes your computer's soundcard; that's why you hear the sound through the GX. Your computer's internal soundcard (to which the USB speakers are connected) is bypassed, which is why you don't hear any sound through your speakers.
