Hi! Any experience with a following combo: EVH 5150III 100W head & HX Effects. Mainly the channel switching options. I read that the 100W-version is an oddball and does not actually support midi even though the FS connection is similar. I also found out that there are adapter cables out there that could fix this. So, if I buy this 7 pin to 5 pin adapter-cable, can the HX Effects change the channels for me or do I need an external switcher, e.g. RMJ Amp Gizmo or similar?

I’ve been playing my hd500 almost every single weekend for the best 2 years. I love the thing. It does everything I need. I run it direct to PA with stage sound. I have IEM’s in which I run a direct feed from my board so I can control my mix guitar volume. Actually entire band is on IEMs so there is 0 stage volume minus a bass cab and drums. So here’s where I’m getting at. My main tone is modeled after an EVH high gain tone. I use a two amp combo (boogie model and Marshall model ). I’ve had quite a few sound guys say they love my tone however when I reflect back on videos of us playing I am always disappointed. I always feel that my tone just doesn’t sound “big” enough. I can’t tell this from my iem mix. I know I can’t exactly judge this by a video recording but it still worries me lol. Does anyone have any tips toward achieving a nice full big distortion main tone with an hd500?? Another fear of mine is also “over-doing” it and just muddying up my tone.

I'm on the cusp of investing in a Helix HX, and part of the attraction is being able to control my amp channels & fx loop with it. I have an EVH 5150iii 50w head and currently change the channels with a Tech 21 Midi Moose using the EVH 'midi learn' function. I plan to use the same with the Helix HX. However, to switch fx loop on/off in the EVH, the manual states: "simply send a control change #85 message with a value of 63 or less to bypass the effects loop, or a value of 64 or greater to enable the effects loop". Can I do this from the Helix HX?

Im trying to find a way to run my Helix LT live. Before i got it, my rig was a dual rectifier+ pedalboard into a Mesa 4x12, but i also use an EVH 5150iii and a Peavey 5150 both into their own EVH 4x12's for an overly bulky live stereo set up. Now, with the EVH/Peavey, i can plug into the fx return of both and get what i need coming out of the 4x12's, easily and simply like everyone says. But with my Dual Rectifier; holy cow is it noisy. Not only is there so much hissing, it is also just freakishly loud. By the time i get to 'room volume' the vol. knob on the helix is so low it isnt useful. Iv read somewhere on here about a guy with a Mesa Mark IV and it sounded like he had a similar problem, but a solution wasnt posted. i tried the 4cm, but im trying to bypass the head altogether so i can simulate one. The EVH+Peavey rigs are not mine, so i need to figure out the problem with my Mesa, or find a little FRFR setup; in which case i can use some power amp recommendations. Also getting a 50w EVH doesnt sound bad as i know i can plug straight into that fx return. Or am i simply overlooking something with the Dual Rec? Its an older model and isnt the quietest on it own; especially in the fx loop. But it should still be useful, right?

Can you assign more than one parameter control to the footswitches in command center? I just picked up an EVH 5150 III 50 Watt head. It has midi control to change the channels on the amp via Midi PC, and turn the FX Loop on/off via Midi CC's. I'd like to be able to have the same footswitch control the amp channel and the FX loop state. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, looking for some guidance here.. It could be a simple fix but I’m a little lost in terms of how to get this happening.. I’m certain I’m doing something wrong, but I’m having trouble getting the Helix to change the channels on my EVH 5153 (50w) amp via midi. That EVH amp has midi so changing channels shouldn’t be hard. I also have a custom made 4 channel amp with midi, and I’ve managed to get that to change the channels on that amp via the Helix, but I can’t quite make it work on the EVH. Any recommendations or YouTube clips that I should look at?! It must be something with the amp itself and not the Helix..? Happy to take any recommendations to get this happening. Once I conquer this, I then know I can just save-copy-paste those patches and use wherever/whenever. Thanks guys.

Hi everyone, I use a PODHD500X plugged into a Rocktron Velocity 100 LTD power amp (line out of POD to line in of power amp). The power amp is connected to a 1x12 box (EVH, Celestion Heritage speaker, 16 Ohm, 30 Watt). This setup sounds good, but the sound is very bassy, and sometimes doesn't quite cut through... The POD output mode is set to "studio/direct", the other settings (combo pwr amp, combo front...) did sound rather weak (not much volume would come out). Am I doing anything wrong ?! Using my setup i did expect a better sound than when using my POD and an active monitor box. Any hint ? Thanks V

Hello everyone, I have my HD500x connected to my EVH 5150 iii with the 4 cable method. Recently I lost all my presets and managed to restore them but I lost a feature that is a must for me and that is controlling the amp (EVH) gain with the expression pedal. I did it in the past and I just can`t figure how I did it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
