msttomservo
The volume balance between Mag and the Models are well balanced when going from the JTV-59 into the Guitar In on the POD-500 using a standard 1/4" cable. When I run with the with the VDI to the Variax input with the same settings the Mags are much louder that the models to the point I basically can not use the models. The Mags sound to loud and the models muted and bland. I have latest drivers/flashware on all the JTV and POD500. I have adjusted volumes using Workbench HD connected directly to the computed and 1/4 to amp and again balance between Mag and Models fine. It appears only when I use the VDI to Variax input do a get this problem. Does anyone have any ideas?
gtrman100
Check the input assignments on the HD500. If it is assigned to "same" you get a hotter signal. I'm not certain this will solve your problem but it's worth a try.
msttomservo
Thank you GTRMAN100. I just set the Input 1 to Variax and Input 2 to Mic (which I am not using). It did bring Mags down a bit which helps although they are still loauder than the models. I am trying to adjust some more via Workbench HD and by lowering the physical level of the pickups. I still think this is a weird issue and I have seen other posts with the same problem.
edstar1960
Thank you GTRMAN100. I just set the Input 1 to Variax and Input 2 to Mic (which I am not using). It did bring Mags down a bit which helps although they are still loauder than the models. I am trying to adjust some more via Workbench HD and by lowering the physical level of the pickups. I still think this is a weird issue and I have seen other posts with the same problem. When I first got my JTV59, I remember I had to lower the mag pu's quite a bit to even out the volume difference with the models. I ended up with mine about level with the pu surrounds which seems a bit low for normal use. I never did quite get them to balance out but I mainly use the models and they all have different volume levels anyway - so I tend to compensate volume differences with how I set up my HD500 patches. I believe someone has created a fw2.0 model bundle with all the different model levels balanced out, I can't remember exactly which thread it was in, but it was certainly within last few months, so you should be able to find it if you want to balance out all the model sounds. Balancing the mag volume will always be a matter of fiddling with the physical height, and maybe having to roll back the volume knob, as there is no software volume adjustment for the mags. By the way - do you also get a fair bit of noise when using the mags with VDI ? I found that I do and that has also put me off using them when connected with VDI to the HD500. However via the 1/4 inch connection they are as quiet as the models and as quiet as normal humbuckers.
radatats
I just got my JTV-69 and have only been able to use the mags so far. I am very surprised to find them much quieter than my Schecter with stock SD pups or my 30 plus yr old Aria Pro... It's not even close... I am getting things charged and will try the models this weekend along with checking upgrades etc... Sweetwater says it is all up to date but we'll see. Anyone else notice that or is it normal? Ed_Saxman
The Mags sound to loud and the models muted and bland. I have latest drivers/flashware on all the JTV and POD500. The 2.0 Firmware sound much quieter than previous firmwares. Roll back to 1.9 and test it for yourself. Half of users found the last update a complete fiasco in many ways. Myself included, of course 1
silverhead
.. Half of users found the last update a complete fiasco in many ways..... Wow. I'd be interested in seeing the data behind that statement. Seriously - let's try to keep things realistic. It's true that some users, including yourself, prefer v1.9. You have stayed with that version and are happier. Nothing wrong with that. I happen to prefer v2.0. We're both happy. Where's the 'fiasco'? Charlie_Watt
My model and mag volumes are similar on my JTV69S with V2.0. I would say the models are a little louder than the mags. This is EASILY adjusted by adjusting the string volumes anyway since the string volumes only affect the models and not the mags. The mags sound very good to me but not as full and interesting as the Spank models. I plan to experiment with some blending on my HD500x. It's true that some users, including yourself, prefer v1.9. You have stayed with that version and are happier. Nothing wrong with that. I happen to prefer v2.0. We're both happy. Where's the 'fiasco'? It´s realistic to say that a big part of users that "are happy" of the 2.0 firmware are also "line 6 experts", to which they were apparently given the task of creating positive reviews on the forums. However, it is easy to verify that the update is a complete failure on many levels; to mention a few of them: Telecaster, Stratocaster, ES-335, ES-175, all of them sound worse in 2.0. The acoustic guitars sound out of tune, the POD will not work anymore as interface for workbench, all models are out of adjustment, even including individual volume of the strings. Delay and popping noises changing models (when this did not happen before) Not to mention the bugs in the upgrade process. All this is not representing a fiasco for you? Then do not know what they should have done to make it so for you. Maybe if the JTV was disintegrated with the new firmware, or was wrapped in flames, or maybe it exploded. Okay, it do not get to that point, but for me it is enough to consider all the aforementioned to say JTV 2.0 Firmware is the biggest fiasco on the whole history of line 6. But I do not mean to be grumpy , I'm simply stating what I think is pretty obvious . And I 'm glad you 're happy. I 'm not as much as you, but I still have a small hope that someone fix this terrible mess .
silverhead
I see. So what you mean is that less than half the people who responded to a poll in this support forum (which generally attracts users looking for support) have rolled back. This says nothing about the number of users who do not visit this forum. Also, the title of the poll itself skews the results because it specifically targets those who have rolled back. The surprising part is that they were outnumbered, and the number of 'experts' you say represents 'a big part' of those users is actually a very small portion (there aren't anywhere near 62 experts, and only three of us actually participated in this poll). I, and other experts, are not given any task here. But I do like to challenge unsupported negative views and overly dramatic language when I see it. What you feel is 'pretty obvious' is not at all so to me. If I am sometimes perceived as being positively biased for challenging negativity, then so be it. The v2 release boils down to personal taste. Some don't like it, and can remain at v1.9. More do like it. Everyone has their preferred version.
Ed_Saxman
It's all good, man. It was not my intention to enter into sterile discussions, much less bring negativity to this great forum. Peace, love, and a new firmware fixing all that fiasco these little inconveniences anytime soon, please.
edstar1960
.......... The v2 release boils down to personal taste. Some don't like it, and can remain at v1.9. More do like it. Everyone has their preferred version. Sorry silverhead - I have to disagree with that statement. There are some real issues with v2.0 that are preventing some from enjoying the upgrade as intended. True, some people simply don't like the sound of the new models, or are upset that their favourite model has been replaced or does not sound the same as before and that causes them issues with their setup which they may have been using for years so they decide to stay on a previous version, but some of us have real issues that have been introduced by the upgrade. Some of those issues can be worked around but some cannot. For me, it's matter of being forced back to 1.9 to avoid a problem introduced by 2.0, it's not my personal taste as I have not really had the chance to work with the new sounds to make a fair comparison or judgement. It is simply a problem that has caused me to move back and I hope that Line 6 get round to fixing it soon. I am certainly not alone in experiencing real problems with the v2.0 upgrade, but I accept that many more users, probably the majority, have had a trouble free experience as reported in the forum. I just wish I was one of the lucky ones! :) PS: Just seen this post from a new user who had an unknown issue on v2.0 but rolling back to v1.9 fixed it for him: http://line6.com/support/topic/5093-jtv-all-modeled-guitars-have-a-banjo-ish-flange/

Fair enough. I was referring only to the sound differences with my statement about it being personal taste.
guilhordas
What impresses me most about this whole story is the delay in the line6 fix this problems and complaints about the 2.0, I've never seen so much delay in correcting an update
israz99
What impresses me most about this whole story is the delay in the line6 fix this problems and complaints about the 2.0, I've never seen so much delay in correcting an update This got to be an update worth the waiting, I hope they can increase the sustain in the models beacuse it is very poor, the sustain of the mag pickups in my JTV.89f is not bad but the sustain in the models needs to be increased. The sustain in the real guitars they used to do teh modelling is not the on in the variax models, there´s no way on earth for that.
diggerbarnz
well...I've had my share of issues (mostly self-induced mind you) so many toys, anyhow I rolled back to 1.9 today on BOTH my variaxes - I had the "all models balanced" in them as well as strat fix + I'd cut all the models by 5db - except acoustics I believe - I used to have popping issues w/a lot of models As I'm about to be forming a 3 pc soon I've been experimenting running thru an amp which is unfamiliar to me(been running thru Bose L1 for eons - I never really took note of mags volume, & even now because of amp I'll probably continue to NOT use them as the amp makes mags sound "cone-like", but the rollback & 2nd posters suggestion have made a huge difference in volume. While I'm here - I had heard that Yamaha had bought out Line 6 recently (or someone else did) Can anybody confirm this & what happens to "support" for a flagship guitar that they're supposedly not going to support anymore? TheRealZap
Yamaha bought them, and the will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha and continue to be an independent brand... they are not being rolled into Yamaha... and support is not being impacted at all..... well...I've had my share of issues (mostly self-induced mind you) so many toys, anyhow I rolled back to 1.9 today on BOTH my variaxes - I had the "all models balanced" in them as well as strat fix + I'd cut all the models by 5db - except acoustics I believe - I used to have popping issues w/a lot of models As I'm about to be forming a 3 pc soon I've been experimenting running thru an amp which is unfamiliar to me(been running thru Bose L1 for eons - I never really took note of mags volume, & even now because of amp I'll probably continue to NOT use them as the amp makes mags sound "cone-like", but the rollback & 2nd posters suggestion have made a huge difference in volume.
