  1. UPDATE: Well, after all my troubleshooting I was reading another blog in this Forum about the resistance setting. Hmm, so I set it to various levels and discovered that for the majority of my guitars 22K is a good setting for the High Gain amp models. Amazing how relative all these threads are. Kudos to the people use us Line 6 and share their experiences. Thanks again Dennis PS: If I can locate that thread I'll quote and recognize the contributor. I was at work and just barely glanced at the info when I got called away and had to make the $$$ to pay for my GAS.
  2. +1 DunedinDragon. I am rethinking my patches as well by dumping the use of the distortion models for now only using the Treadplate if I get the sound I have mentioned in my recent thread to go bye-bye. Otherwise for now the JCM800 seems to be real close to what I am wanting. The seemingly natural breakup from these two amp models is pretty cool. I just need to get to it and then play out for a feel of how it works through the PA. Dennis
  3. I purchased the Beyerdynamic this afternoon. So by Friday I'll know if it is the headphones. I did use four guitars to be safe, a 1970 LPGT, 2010 Baker, 1980 GZ300, and an early Hamer Echotone (think 335 copy but with half way decent wood and assembly). No change with the sound I heard. More coming soon. Dennis
  4. If I don't use a noise gate the sound is like a trail off of hum you'd find with a highly over-driven tube amp at extremely high volume. The noise gate reduces that to the milliseconds of fizz when I hit a power chord. However, it is consistent and I can duplicate it ad infinitum. I will call Guitar Center today as well to remove that from the mix. I was thinking the headphones could be a problem as well. I found a 250 ohm Beyerdynamic DT-990 I will purchase. I am currently using an AKG K240 which is about 55 ohms and that will go back to Guitar Center for a full refund (they said I had two weeks). I am going to test a few other items I didn't mention to see if my Firmware bounce dance may have fixed two issues i had as well. Will report back in two days. In the meantime any other feedback will be well appreciated. Thanks Dennis
  5. Hopefully I can explain this with some level of clarity ... or not but here goes, I have been reading the manuals, watching & following youtube videos, reading KBs & forums, searching via google, etc. I have invested about 35 to 45 hours over the past seven days (yep, some will say "is that all" and some will say "about normal") and finally used it today. I have learned my tones are slightly treble weighted which I can fix. But after trying many things I had a strange sound come out of the darn thing in my headphones this afternoon. The Treadplate, The Angle F-Ball 100, & Bomber Uber emit a weird sound, almost like a cross between a Jacob's Ladder & a spring only it is heard for about just a few milliseconds when I hit a power chord. So, I decided to reload the 2.62.00 firmware, which I had done last Sunday when I first bought the unit. To my chagrin I discovered that there was an odd occurrence with this reload. Now I had read that there were only 2 user set-list available upon the update when I first upgraded it from v1.00.00 last Sunday and had asked some general questions about why v1.00.00 would be on a new unit. Well, last Sunday after the upgrade, and I did not tell it to save my patches since I didn't have any, I had three user "blank" set-lists, not two. But this afternoon I had a new set-list I had never seen and only two user "blank" set-lists. Now this is a good thing, so no big deal. I did calibrate the expression pedal and found it would not calibrate quite right. I should 45 Duty Cycle instead of 0 at first then ranged between 100 and 65 during the "press A then B then C as I had it at full down, play with it, full up, wait for it, and so on. It took three power cycles to finally work. Then I created a Treadplate only patch and found the sound was the actual hum and hiss of the amp itself out of the box. I even added a noise gate and viola I had recreated the problem, if that what it truly was. So being the geek I can be at times I used Line 6 Monkey to downgrade the Firmware to 1.30 and started over. Same issue with the Pedal as far as calibration and my found set-list was now no where to be found. Well, I'll test the Treadplate. Yep, no change. So back to v2.62.00. Only tie time the Pedal calibrated perfectly. The missing set-list was now found. But Treadplate still had the off-spring of Jacob's Ladder and a '63 spring reverb sound. Hmm ... So I played with all of the following; amp parameters, master sag hum bias bias excursion drive channel vol cab parameters, early reflections resonance level thump decay Used all the microphones available as well Turns out I can reduce the noise to just about a whisper without sacrificing too much tone, and for my ears it actually sounds more factual. But I must admit I have a problem ... my ears are such that if any instrument is out of tune it physically hurts my ears ... really. Or if a group plays outside the normal laws of dissonance ... well I have never said I wasn't odd. So now the questions; 1) Are the High-Gain amps actually modeled with the hum, hiss, and spit of the amp circuits at those levels as you'd find in real world, 2) Has anyone else noticed this 3) Is it that problematic to calibrate the exp pedal 4) Should I have my POD HD500X sent in for Line 6 to look at 5) Have I been assimilated 'nough out of me Thanks for any feedback on this Dennis
  6. I am doing this with the Pitch Glide and the Wah in one patch. EXP TOE SWITCH for both with the Wah assigned to EXP2 and the Glide (min = 0 max = 50 for normal pitch at full on) assigned to EXP1. Of course the EXP assignments are just personal choice YMMV. Dennis
  7. Any info about your computer? How old, CPU, USB version the device is connected to? Stuff like that. Thanks Dennis
  8. Crazy question. I purchased a new POD HD500X from GC Sunday as in 5 days ago Feb 2016. When I first installed the necessary software from Line 6 (Monkey, Edit, drivers, etc.) and successfully connected my unit the screen in Line 6 Monkey said the firmware was version 1.00 - not 0.00 as if it didn't see it. So question, when did firmware 1.00 get released and did I really purchase a new unit or was it some old stock, in the back under the stairwell, waiting to see the light of day release? It did update to version 2.62.00. I had the same thing happen in Jan. 2010 when I purchased my first M13 and, due to many issues I discovered in the first 10 days) it had to be sent to Line 6 three weeks later at which time Line 6 (thank you Tony) sent me a brand new doubly inspected unit just out of production. So, back to firmware version. Anyone have an answer as to what firmware you had if and when you purchased a new HD500X in the past three months (Dec 2015 to Feb 2016)? Thanks, Dennis
  9. So I seem to be resurrecting this thread due to the lack of answers I found at GC. I just purchased a HD500X and tripped over an AKG K240 headphones due to the sale cost. So far it has worked well for my limited time with the system. Tonight I go into the studio and see how close they are to tonality versus the end result of the patches I created with them coming though the mix. More on this journey. Dennis PS: I looked but only found closed back Sennheiser HD6 Mix
  10. Yep! I got a M13 in 2011 and spent several months (an hour here, 4 hours there, etc.) while gigging and ended up actually creating 12 scenes each in all four folders on my own. Fast forward to today ... I use 5 of those scenes out of the 48 only because I played with 2 bands and I now use 3 with the one band I stuck with. It was a great learning curve as far as how to chain them and what can go into my other pedals, and etc. etc. This time around I am being cautious. The longest effort was in using the GEQs (thank you Mr Hanmer) to reduce the unwanted and annoying frequencies. Of course it does help that I have an excellent knowledge of computer systems so thighs are backed up. I had an extra M13 so my old board is still in tact for those places I can use my Mesas. But this HD500X is now ready for the studio tonight and our small room/stage gigs ... several coming up. Amen, POD ready [check] ... going to move forward [check] ... ready! :D Dennis
  11. Thanks all. Not to throw the sound engineer under the bus; he did get a great tonality quality based upon me using a Floor Pod Plus. And he did work his fingers to the bone to do it. But comparing the quality of my various Mesa amps it just didn't get on center due to the Floor Pod; good but not great, However, the HD500X is amazing. My only question is ... When do I stop making patches? ;) I have created 7 myself and downloaded two that I have tweaked. I have saved various times; 7 bundles, 9 set-lists, & 23 songs. And I only have about 15+ hours into this thing. I feel I could get stuck in tonal creation dark hole and my lower extremities are numb. But, it is going to be well worth it!!! Now if my wife would only remember what I look like and let me back into the house. One last thing to note is the POD is easy to carry compared to my 80+ lb amps. But I may need to go to gym now that I'm not being taxed physically. Ha! Dennis
  12. +1 to DunedInDragon and brue58ski concerning Peter Hanmer. I had read and searched and read and searched some more before going to a higher end POD; in my case it is the HD500X. I was quite fortunate to find the Peter Hanmer videos late 2015 as I applied the techniques to my tube amps before purchasing the Line 6 POD. I really love and want the tone I hear in my head but even getting it to an amp always was like 2 points off center. I have no experience with the POD direct to floor monitor so I have no insight there. But I can say that Mr Hanmer really has helped me with the tone in head to tone in POD connection. And I have found these forums, though I am new to this one, is filled with some great people with knowledge AND experience. Well I have to leave the forum and get back to readying my POD. L8r Dennis
  13. I am new to the POD HD500X as in three days new. So for my three cents ... it's a toss up for me. I do like doing everything myself using the manual, the help files, and the various videos I have already watched. However, I have been moving through the forum and just downloaded and opened two patched shared by other members to see how the tones & gain compare with what I have done. Three for me and two for the forum. Due to the power surge 3 minutes ago (storming in California) I have shut down all but my laptop which is off the grid. So, what I did realize is that I have a particular way I like to add and place my effects as well as the tone. The jury is still out due to mother nature, but I believe I'll do the majority myself then search for patches that sound like something I'd be interested in and tweak them to my flavor of liking. Later I am sure I'll realize I've missed out and completely change my approach. But I am new as well. Dennis
  14. For the past three weeks the other guitarist & I have been going amp-less. Last Friday & Saturday the sound engineer and I finally came to an agreement as to the closest tonal quality I could achieve. Yet, I have been reading about the POD HD series for as long the family have been in existence. However, having several quality tube amps to use for various venues seemed to make it easier to stick with the past then move to the present. And I have quite an array on my pedaltrain board as well as a Floor Pod Plus I have started to use more regularly. I do like it for recording when I have time to manipulate it in the studio, but live felt very limited. But having GAS ... I have traded in one of my M13 pedals and my Floor Pod Plus last Sunday. Came home with a POD HD500X. Thank God I understand computers as well as music. It is amazing! Already had the opportunity to read, watch videos, read some more, watch more videos, jump in, make mistakes, correct mistakes, start over ... OK you all get the picture. Can't wait for the next practice and gig! Looks like I have been assimilated! Dennis
