While I will say I miss my amp in the room sound. I did take a drive to Sweetwater and spent the day on a ton of amps. Took a couple home. Sounded awesome. There it was again. And then I decided to do the text. I put the amps in another room. Put various mics on them. Went back to the studio and ran everything through the PA system. A/B comparison of the mics vs the helix only able to hear the PA.... I ended up returning the amps. Liked the helix more. To be far - Amps I have owned: JVM 410H and C Carvin VT50 Dt50 2x112 combos, head, 212 combo Mesa Mark V 90w Mesa Roadkind v1 Blackstar Series One 1046L6 Fender rock pro 1000 (I was young, first half stack) A few other solid states. I like the helix. While that isn't a huge collection of tube amps it's enough to know the difference. -

Few things: 1. Good speakers. I own the PRX715s along with a couple PRX718xlf. 2. 1500w is peak power. Unsure of the exact RMS rating. Probably about half that. 3. They've been on sale for some time now. JBL was getting ready to release their PRX800 series right around the time I bought my speakers last summer. 5 days before my return period was up. However it passed my price match period. Told the store it would be silly for me to return them just to buy them again. They agreed and knocked the subs from $1200 down to $700 And the mains from $800 down to $650 For me. Saved a pretty penny! I would recommend the PRX 700 series to anyone. Simply because this is a rather nice speaker, they only had one axtive point-source model higher than the PRX series, and you can get them for a dollar and a dream right now because they added some wireless control to the PRX800 and everyone wants it. Really... it isn't worth it. The jump to the SRX series however.... that's kinda nice. But you can also make up for the feature set with a good drive rack. That won't give you the upgraded HF Driver though. ;) As far as weight is concerned. For what they are.... I think my PRX715s are actually extremely light. I can max out my tripods height and get these on there over my head with no assistance.

Same boat had an hd500 from day one and a helix as soon as one was released and I was on the waiting list. The hd500 I only ever used with the dt50 the helix went straight into a PA. I will say I had to learn a lot on the Helix to get it where I wanted, but this came from not ever having ran the hd500 regularly into FRFR systems. Since then I now have a PA. ....Did I mention I just got my new board! Si Impact just arrived. Woah... A.D.D. anyways. When I did try to run the hd500 into a board straight away it sounded like absolute crap to me. Sorry. And I did NOT spend the time with it to try anf make it work. Straight to the Helix. So maybe they can match maybe they cant. I dunno. Sometime I'll gice it a go. The one thing that really brings the Helix to life, for me, is the use of IR cabs. Those things suddenly made this thing sound like a dream. Lack of IRs available on the hd500 makes me feel I couldn't get it to where I currently have the Helix.

Yeah. On a custom built ESP, USA deluxe strat, usa g&l comanche, gibson les paul. Wireless, wired, 4cm, standing on my head, everything ... She squeals like a piggy! I've had the jvm410h, carvin vt50, 3 line dt50's (all blew up! Lol .... Line 6 fixed them after some serious "wtf?!" messaging), mesa 90w Mark V, mesa roadking, the list goes on.... I have never in my life had an amp the squeals like this puppy. I want to post in the jvm forum... Waiting for some one to say, "well its a high gain amp you know!" Well sure I guess.... Because the mesa boogie roadking isnt? Lol

Personally use the JBL PRX715s. This is because I have the pa system. 2 prx715 and 2 prx718xlf. If you ever plan on owning a full pa at any point in your life I'd recommend the prx715. Why biy things twice. At that it is an extremely nice active speaker that can be had for a dollar and a dream right now if you look around. JBL released the prx800 series and the stores are selling off the 700 series mich cheaper, if they still have any, under jbl's request to get the new line on the shelves. We're talking a system that was $800 - $900 per top and $1100 - $1300 per sub. Can be had for $600 - $650 per top and $700 - $800 per sub now. A significant savings on a very nice setup. Personal experience. The only mains (meaning frfr speaker) I could recommend in competition to the prx700 would be the yamaha dsr system; without an extreme price hike. Eons are kinda garbage. I would avoid those as well as the Mackie stuff. I've get the prx700 speakers, our singer has 3 mackie speakers we use as monitors.... Not impressed. The yamaha dxr's arent bad. They're a step down from the jbl prx and yahama dsr's for sure... A bit harsh but you could try to tune that out a little. Again some of this is subjective but is also apparent when you compare original specs on these. This is personal experience. Have been running sound for a bit and compared many many speakers for about 3 months before buying the jbl prx715s. I even drove hours and hours to listen and test this gear because there really isnt anything local.

I notice this often now. Never happened to me on 2.01 if that is worth mentioning. Not saying it hasn't happened to anyone on that note. My personal experience: problems started with 2.10... Bad enough that I rolled it back to 2.01. Then 2.11 is a little better but still happens often enough when plugged into the computer. If its worth noting: ports are good. This is on a relatively new alienware 17r4. Dedicated usb, no hub. The computer's sole purpose in life is running the helix, presonus rm32ai and other midi devices. It is as clean as it gets when it comes to a computer and optimized through the wahzoo. ;) I even pulled the computer open the day it arrived and repasted the cpu and gpu with grizzly conductonaut and new fujilopy thermal pads.... The computer is beast! Can run 4.2Ghz oc for hours with a max temp of 62c with 1-2 degree core differential. I believe the exact wording at user benchmark was: "This computer is in the 90th percentile and performing way above expectations when compared against other computers with the exact same hardware. This computer is likely operated by a technical master." So it aint the setup on my end!!!! ;) Just sayin. Lol

Channel switching is fast! I had a jvm410h and now have the jvm410c. I will HIGHLY recommend using the snapshots primarily. You cant toggle a program change and its a real pain if you want to hit the same button twice. To do this first set global midi to not send a pc message. *important* - I learned the hard way wondering why my midi wasnt working well. Then under snapshot command center set, for example: snapshot 1 clean, 2 crunch, 3 distortion, 4 lead. Setting appropriate effects of course. Then under command center send the program change. It will adjust under each snapshot. I STRONGLY recommend building yourself a table in excel! PC 1: ch1 green vol 1 PC 2: ch1 green vol 2 PC 3: ch1 orange vol 1 etc.... The other thing I did was set the master volume on the Helix to not adjust the 1/4 out. I did this because I wanted default level to the amp. Given its a tube amp I prefer to handle all volume/gain staging on the amp itself. Now if I may bother you. I haven't hit the jvm forum yet. I had the 410h and loved it. This was at the same time my dt50 blew up for the 3rd time. I bought a pa system and bought the helix.... Planned on using the PA entirely. Did not keep the 410h to help fund the endeavour; it was an extremely expensive pa system. A year later I finally found and affordable one and grabbed an used jvm410c for 1k. But it just doesnt have the punch and ch3 and 4 sqeal like crazy humming and buzzing. Almost so loud you cant actually hear the guitar. I have ran through several different grounded breakers throughout the house. My main system would normally I have it is all run through a livewire rack digital power conditioner which is plugged to a dedicated line in my studio. Several several different guitar. No weird light bulbs. Lol... Tomorrow I plan on testing the bias. I don't want to buy new tubes. I still have a return period and if it goes back I have completely switched to the helix and really don't need a set of tubes laying around. Anyways.... Please feel free to ask anything. I have much experience with the jvm410 and the helix. Organization is key though when it comes to the options of that amp and setting it up. Build that table! 24 midi commands w/ only volume changes 88 options if you account for reverb

Not really an option. That's where the stage monitors are ;) A jvm410c behind me. I tend to float around the marshall sims quite a bit... So rather than simulating one, why not just get the real deal.

Hey not sure if anything ever came of this, but want to pop in and say I would be interested. I have a floor unit. Its in mint condition and I have the helix bag as well. Lookin to trade because I want to switch back to an amp and the 4 cable method is making for a lot of extra cables from the floor unit back to the amp. Thanks!

Lol... Lollipop... Well you took the time to write that code into your forums. Think ya could put the same effort into your product as well?

Yeah I encountered this issue.... It was awesome... It happened at a high end private party our group was playing. So... That was cool! Got booked into a very difficult place to get into this evening. Currently scrambling to fix the issue. We like to bounce from one song to the next. Blend a bunch together. We even plan what we say to the audience.... And here I am lollipopin around with my pedal. Excuse the language... But god damnit get your lollipop together! Jesus christ. How did this get over looked! This is my job and I looked like an lollipop clown last night!!!! Okay time to breath and calm down... Extremely disappointed in the quality control here.

Ideas? Using things like the low/high pass filters at the moment. Intro of Gel by Collective Soul

Actually just switching over to the engl amp helped a ton. Thanks. I have been using the bogner amps with a screamer for just about everything, gain @ 0.4 for clean. I try and keep consistent with amp choices to make it easier on the sound guys. I would pop up a recording, but as I am still learning the song I don't want to embarrass myself 😉 Stevie Ray Vaughan? Not a problem! Anything and I've got it. Mean streets EVH... Nailed it... Brightside? ... Why you givin me troubles? Lol

Thanks for the replies. I'll try to get some clips up relatively soon, been busy and then with a sick toddler today I had to move all my students to tomorrow... So a pretty packed day. The guitar is a semi hollow, no f-holes, custom build from ESP thats almost 30 years old. No distinguishing marks on the pickups, so I can't help much there. She's a beaut! I was able to tame a little more out today from the intro and just saw these replies, otherwise I would have recorded it.

Okay.... I thought I had the Helix dialed in pretty good.... Until.... The group wants to cover Mr Brightside. Easy! Wrong I am having difficulty with the intro. Its very harsh when I play up that high on the neck with this song. For some reason I am having the darndest time trying to EQ these harsh frequencies out of the mix. I have notched out a ton between 1.5k - 3k. Brought it back up... A lot of experimenting, sweeping, etc... As soon as I bump myself up to stage volume I get extremely brutal painful frequencies. I was wondering if any of you would mind having a stab at it and seeing how you do when punching up the volume. This is run through JBL PRX715s using the HPF built into the PRX718xlf subs. So looking for anyone with a similar setup for some sort of consistency. Thanks in advance to anyone that wants to have a stab at it!!!

midi CC messages do not reset when changing snapshots
jmp22684 replied to coosvandorsten's topic in Helix
Maybe post what you're trying to do in some images? Having difficulty understanding the exact circumstance. Also need to look up the type of midi messages your amp accepts. Personally I need to send PC messages. The first thing is to head over to the global settings and turn off the send pc messages. Then I set each snapshot up to send an instant messages. Example: Snapshot 1-4 respectively: Intro Prechorus Chorus Lead Amp channels Program Change: 0 = clean 1 = crunch 2 = OD1 3 = OD2 With the global pc off and these set as instant program changes everything works pretty well. I haven't goofed much with cc toggle on any amps yet as mine only accepts pc. Now... a PC toggle would be SWEET for those of us with these amps. -
Off topic a little and sorry for that. I would like to learn more about tone shaping IRs and how to create them. I have searched around for various phrases along the lines of "tone shape IR" "IR tone match" "eq match IR" ect... Do you know of a good source of information on this you could point me to? Or tell me all about it! ;) I have been looking into tone matching and if there where any open source free utilities to do this. I know some think tone matching software is over rated, but personally I think it could serve as an invaluable learning tool. Would love to see Line 6 implement something like this into the Helix, as we see many units on the market today advertising such a feature. Again... Sorry for hijacking the thread. I just read this and it has been something I have been lightly researching on the side.
