  1. At least it has a power switch! I still think this is how it went down "Great job! Looks and sounds fantastic. Okay. Now how do I turn it off?" "Ummmmmm...." "Damnit Tim!" ~HD500
  2. Okay.... if I were a developer for line 6.... yes. There would be an option to play block out, asteroid, that snake one.... anything you could program into a graphing calculator. And that's why I'd probably get fired. Hey line 6, you hiring? I've got a few things I'd like to work on. ;)
  3. Oh and yes.... Grab an amp gizmo. I have a couple, one amp gizmo and one rjm loop switcher (eventually ditching helix for a full midi setup... or use helix for midi only. Midi controllers with scribble strips, ability to have so many presets, etc cost as much as the helix or more). Highly recommend rjm. I'd like to recommend line 6 come out with a midi only unit!
  4. Easy! Assuming you want mesa preamp and black star power section. Guitar > helix input Helix send > mesa preamp input Mesa out > helix return Helix 1/4 out > blackstar return I've been toying with the idea of a mesa preamp and the mesa 50/50. Currently 4cm with a road king 212 combo and it is a beast to lug around twice a week EVERY week for gigs.... don't get a mesa road king 212. Your back will thank you!!
  5. I would like the helix to have tone matching and effect matching that syncs with what I would be currently hearing in my head. Could we also include a fold out amp cabinet that can be triggered via my key fab?
  6. That's quite easy! -Look at the manual for the Powercab; it should list what incoming midi commands do what. -Global Settings on Helix: turn off all Midi PC sends. You'll set that up yourself. -Setup the instant midi to the Powercab manual info under each snapshot and you're good to go! I do this with the RJM Amp Gizmo and my Road King. Easy peasy!
  7. It's off topic, but I've found it to be nice with how much Line 6 participates in the forums. They're usually pretty good about keeping people informed.
  8. Yeah, per preset is great for the built in. I save all presets in heel position. If I end a song in toe and start the next song it's where I need it. That being said, if it gets bumped.... well you guess what happens. I look for a chance to quickly pop it down when it won't audibly be noticed.
  9. Not sure this is your problem.... however I'd set the expression pedal position to be recalled by patch if you use it to engage. It could wreck a night if you grab a patch and never put the pedal back into heel position before switching. I have had behavior act rather erratic on me.... I couldn't to save my life get a block to disengage in heel position. As soon as the pedal was moved it would revert back to helix default. I had to delete the patch and rebuild from scratch.... I've also had things like a volume block randomly turning off when grabbing a patch. I got bitched out when the thing is set to 30% all night and then a random patch is @ full 100% I have no control.... that was fun!
  10. I clicked to read about frfr speakers. Lol Hmmmm..... works with the kids: "You! Go sit in that corner! And you! Sit in the other and can-it! After 5 minutes I wanna see hugs and apologize or it's to bed without dinner! Ah ah! I said sit. down. and. can-it! Turn around and face the corner damnit! Mom and I are making a drink and don't want to hear a peep now!" To wife, "Why did we have kids?!"
  11. To add to this.... I've found that expression pedal position being tied to a block on/off will completely negate on/off state per snapshot. Work around was to set mix, or in your case, gain to be controlled via snapshot. When switching to a new snapshot they're set to zero if I don't need it.
  12. Curious: what's your global settings for your expression pedal? Global or per patch? I have many patches where I use my expression pedal to engage/disengage blocks. As well as the boss FV-500L to expression #3. The built in pedal, exp 1&2, set to save position per patch under global settings. The Boss, exp 3, set to global position as this is always tied to a volume block @ the end of the chain.
  13. Soooooo.... what does the L6 link on the Helix actually do right now? Well that a standard audio jack doesn't do. Nothing a standard xlr feed doesn't do on the powercab either.
  14. Personally packed her back up for return to Sweetwater. Made sure to ask for a demo unit just in case of this. I'm keeping an eye on line 6 though, good idea... Just didn't work for me. I think I'm just too used to my rig and have much invested in her. Back to building the tube power amp rig. Hoping to not lug around that to roadking anymore!!!!! Lol..... I just don't under stand why a $700 solid state solution that weighs 35lbs can't match the $4000 200lb one I've got. ^^ sarcasm
  15. My fears are that this is just due to budget components, perhaps the speaker and/or power amp. Too good to be true product pricing. There's probably a reason other products like this cost double to triple the price. Still going to keep trying though.
  16. Thank you, I'll check these out in the morning. Will be first chance to get back to it since last post. Are you running these in the powercab or helix? Thanks again, appreciate the work.
  17. I keep reading about this midi issue and it's preventing me from wanting to update since I only use Helix for effects and beyond that it's basically a glorified midi controller for me. That loss would completely cripple my rig and use in a live situation.
  18. Yeah, I think I need more time with it. I goofed around for a few hours yesterday. I felt like I was playing through a ss modeling amp. Reminded me of trying to help my students get their mustang to a sound they could tolerate... though I had one good compliment after spending an hour on one. He said his used $100 amp sounded like he spent a few hundred more on it now. Lol. In LF Raw are you running any Cab IRs? I tried with and without. Full or Pre amp models? I was using full. Did you mess with sag, ripple, bias/x, etc... ? On the other hand while goofing around I came up with a couple neat ideas I'll insert into my chain tonight on a couple tunes.
  19. I don't know how this powercab slipped by me, but did my normal Helix forum peruse yesterday and then ... whoops! Mine will be here today. How do you think dynamics compare to your recto? Have you been able to feed it a wet and dry chain without getting washed out? I understand that's better with two cabs, but it would be nice to somehow get a nice wet signal that doesn't get washed in the mix. Have a road king combo I run 4cm with, effects only: Ch1 (green), clean: ultra clean. Ch2 (yellow), fat: @the edge of breakup, kinky boost if I need a little more. Ch3 (orange), raw: distortion, add screamer for a little more and to reduce mud if necessary. Don't use Ch4 at the moment. All channels diode instead of 5u4, all 6L6. Honestly I'm not using the amp to its potential, too much of a nightmare to our sound guy if I'm varying all over the place. I was actually thinking of selling and going to a 3 channel recto if it can get the same sounds. But have been on the hunt for a lighter solution (that doesn't have so many tubes ;) ). Im hoping this brings a new feel I was missing with the amp models and my PA. I ran helix direct for over a year gigging every weekend and spending almost every day, all day, goofing around trying to get "that" sound before switching back to a tube amp. Off topic but: I was never able to get her to a volume where it just didn't sound choked when we were playing smaller venues. Loaded her with an eminence reignmaker and maverick.... BOOM! the sound I've been looking for at a volume I can drive her at! If you ever have a little jingle you want to blow on her .... grab these puppies!!! Oh and if you like experimenting load her with preferred series tubes from thetubestore, every once in a while they have a good sale. These really beefed up the road king. I went power tubes and first three preamp tube, really warm sounding to me. Anyways I gotta get back to doing puppy laps, jumping at the door and chasing my tail while waiting for the new toy to arrive. Gratz!

    Reverbs

Slightly off topic, but a while ago watched a video of someone comparing the reverb against strymon pedal. He pulled out the artificial sound they kinda get by pulling the lpf/high cut to around 1k and then extended the decay to match the strymon as well. Personal setup atm for very basic reverb: hall reverb, mix 26%, decay 7.7, pre-delay 50ish, highcut 900ish. Cutting the highs really helped get rid of that plastic sound the helix reverb is kinda prone to. There's another video up that's great as well. He runs a dry path and a wet path. The wet path is: reverb 100% > delay > modulation to give the reverb some movement > another reverb to sum it back up. Then, like posted above, use the split block as your reverb mix.
