  1. You could try this - not sure how much control an HD400 offers, but it might work: http://line6.com/support/topic/5553-acoustic-solution-for-jtv-with-dt-amps/
  2. I just thought I would correct that for you - with young daughters I get to listen to a bit more of this stuff than I want to, and I have to tell you that if you listen to any Pop Hits album then there is nothing but pitch corrected vocals from start to finish - I really don't think any "Pop Star" has time to learn to sing any more ... too much time on the important things like Hair and Makeup. Even when the song starts off ok it doesn't take any time before I can hear the Pitch Correction artefacts and cringe. Maybe the next albums will be called "Now that what I call Pitch Correction"
  3. I forgot - GuitarGuitar are doing a Helix Launch day in Glasgow on October 13th with Sean Halley http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/news/article.asp?id=127341 Other dates are Newcastle on the 20th and Epsom on the 22nd I know its a long way - but there will be at least one there then! I am in the Midlands but apparently neither the 2nd or 3rd largest cities qualify as worth demonstrating at, and London is only covered if you consider Epsom to be London (it is inside the M25 I suppose) :(
  4. Well Digital Igloo said that they had finished with the firmware updates in the European warehouse (Yamaha in the Netherlands), and that they would be in the distribution chain. But none of the UK dealer sites including Yamaha UK are showing a date earlier than 30th October, which seems a very long time to get across the channel. There was one person on a thread somewhere saying that Norway was also November. Got to say that I have the money for my big 50 present in a week time starting to burn a hole, but it doesn't look as though there will be any to buy.
  5. Helix only needs a machine that can connect to the internet, download the files and run the editor - get a cheap laptop and disconnect your main music machine from the internet; it can carry on running all the software it currently does until the hard disk crashes, but it is seriously at risk because it is not getting any sort of software patches (and please say you are using anything other than Internet Explorer). The laptop can run all of the editors and upgrades (monkey) for the hardware and you can use it to access the internet. The only hole you have is if you were planning on using Helix as your Sound Card because there are no 32 bit drivers for Helix
  6. It is unreasonable to expect Line 6 or anybody else to provide software for out of support operating systems - if they do it is a bonus, but often the attempt to do so will compromise the functionality they can provide. For all those Windows 95 users out ;) there this table is August 2015 position on Windows support by Microsoft (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle): Windows XP - April 14, 2009 Windows Vista - April 10, 2012 Windows 7 - January 13, 2015 Windows 8 - January 9, 2018 Windows 10 - October 13, 2020
  7. OK Helix manual is out, and on page 44 it clearly shows that USB 1/2 are routed directly to the outputs including the L6 Link. Probably worth looking there for details http://line6.com/data/6/0a06439cb91a5609df67966ca/application/pdf/Helix%20Owners%20Manual%20(REV%20B)%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20B%20).pdf

    L2m set up

I believe that everything that Acoustic Mode on an L2 offers can be done on a Helix with a lot more control. For example the "Body" control can be achieved with a IR block and an Acoustic guitar IR. What is not clear is whether Helix at launch includes any Acoustic Guitar IRs - Line 6 have some because that is how Variax and the L2 mimic a guitar body already.
  9. For the HD the answer is no which I find disappointing. I have seen your questions not being answered elsewhere and from the Helix USB schematic that was posted I think the answer at least on release is yes but with restrictions - if you do a USB FX loop at the end of one path feeding into the start of the other which then feeds L6Link then yes, otherwise "whoops how did we miss that one"
  10. The looper is mono and can only be placed before the start or after the end of the paths, so it isn't possible to pan it.
  11. There should be a button top right of the list of topics - looks like this: Start New Topic (well it while I was editing it, it now just looks like a link - but the link does work to start a new thread)
  12. I use a tube comp with Threshold set to 100 and the expression assigned to control the Level with 0 make-up gain on minimum and about 15 on maximum. That way I get about a doubling in volume in range that because of the compressor is relatively immune to volume changes for other reasons such as going from clean to distorted by turning up the guitar volume knob. I know this means I don't have a full dynamic range, but it is very useful for fitting into a band where I need to be within a consistent volume range all the time
  13. I have a Patrick Eggle Los Angeles with the Locking Wilkinson Trem where if the arm is free it locks into a stop on the backplate, but when the arm is moved into normal holding position it floats. It does mean that you can have quite a light trem action when you want it and a fixed bridge when you don't. Unfortunately it was stopped after a few years due to some design infringement even though the holder to the rights isn't allowing it to be manufactured. Some of the trem stabilisers can help, but from reports they effect the feel as you pass through the midpoint and kill the warble effect you get by flicking the arm. Personally I go with floating and lean on the bridge with my hand when I need to bend a long way or sometimes just as an effect.
  14. It is possible to have 12th fret fretted and open (12th fret harmonic) perfectly in tune - this is what the Intonation adjustment is for, but it is difficult to maintain perfect tuning across all strings all the time with a floyd because bending one string sharp will flatten the others. I suggest reviewing instructions such as this one for setting up a guitar with a Floyd Rose:
  15. There's a few hours yet: In 2015, the autumnal equinox falls on September 23 at 4:21 A.M. (ET) http://www.almanac.com/content/first-day-fall-autumnal-equinox
  16. and that the plugs is fully inserted... and that the cable isn't faulty... The 1/8 to 1/8 stereo leads are nearly the least reliable leads I have ever owned, the worst are the micro USB ones used to charge phones and tablets - basically the smaller the format the less metal and the quicker it breaks somewhere.
  17. Unfortunately the truth will be that despite LIne 6's best efforts all early adopters will still be beta testers, but they will have paid for the privilege. It is just that the technology is so complex.
  18. No Problem - sounds as though the 1/4 level switch was in an in-between state, always something to check with no sound
  19. Here is the audio only without room mike: https://soundcloud.com/paulhindmarshmusic/guitarguitarhelix-direct
  20. Well you did ask... :P It is a short lead line that uses a full bodied woody tone neck pickup from one of the Semi models with the tone rolled down a bit between the verse and chorus which are finger picked arppegio sparkly edge of breakup Strat between pickups sound. It just doesn't work properly using a strat pickup except perhaps the neck pickup with the the tone knob rolled right back, but that lacks "character" and I can't switch pickups and change the tone knob setting in time (I can barely change the pickup position) and I can't change patches because I need the delay trails behind it. The notes are simply C D C D G A but only notes 1, 4 and 5 are plucked with 2 and 3 being hammer on and off and I slide into 6. And I did tell a small porkie-pie, because I actually play it twice each time. The idea of a momentarily switch that switches to a different guitar (and effects) using a toe switch is just a brilliant concept and I want it now!
  21. The USB Audio to the HD500 doesn't go down L6 Link, so you can't do it. It comes out of all of the Audio outputs but not the digital ones (so sure about SPDIF) Right pain if you are using L2t speakers and want to play along to audio from a computer as you have to use XLR or 1/4 cables when you should be able to use L6 Link. Hope this works as expected on Helix
  22. There is an ideascale about enhanced functions such as being able to use a Helix Switch to change JTV Patch (really useful for me where I need to change to a completely different model for just 6 notes and then back again - currently just about do it with a custom bank, but I really don't have the time to do the pickup switch), and also to control JTV Volume or Tone via Helix Expression or Switches or even to control Alternate Tunings. Add your votes here: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/HD500-Helix-Control-of-Variax-Parameters/728102-23508
  23. I have 2 x EV5 and have had no problems making them control HD500, Yamaha Motif and loads of other gear (although you do need to make sure the minimum volume is set to zero with the HD500) - must be about 25 years old.
  24. Helix does have something called a "Template" because Digital Igloo in the early discussions talked about creating Templates for this or that, the but we don't really know what they are or how they are used - never seen a Template mentioned on a demo
  25. Is it the badge vibrating? (the badge can be turned around) Another possibility might be that you have something loose inside the speaker grill that is being shaken. I am presuming that it happens in several different rooms and isn't just something in one room vibrating in sympathy
