    Helix FAQ

You could try a digital FX Loop - send the A path out of the helix spdif and into the kemper spdif in, and return spdif out back into the helix spdif in which is set to the input of path B. That way you have only a single set of conversions and a whole path/processor each for pre and post effects.

    Helix FAQ

Line 6 does scenes - on the M20d you set-up the configuration of the hardware and effects chains as ... err.. set-ups, and then you can instantly change the state of the channels and fx using saved scenes. Sean Halley explains: Interestingly M20d and Axe FX added scenes about the same time
  3. In the November issue of Premier Guitar there is an article about Tone and Volume Pots and Capacitors and the effects of modifying them; essential information for anybody wanting to get into tweaking their Variax using Workbench: http://digital.premierguitar.com/premier-guitar-november-2015/0957504001444836288/p135
  4. L6Link on Helix doesn't get USB 1/2 according to the words on page 44, but does according to the diagram. A bit confusing for those of us who haven't had a single Helix delivered to customers yet, like the UK
  5. Make sure that you are not overloading it with inaudible low-end by applying low cut to the cab sim - the really low end can be high energy and push the speaker into clipping while you can't really hear it.
  6. It's only counter-intuitive if you think about serial effects loops. Which most people are used to: Guitar -> FX -> Amp Helix can do this (Mix < 50%) but is designed to also model parallel effects loops where the amp output passes directly to the outputs and the effected signal is added to it - for modulations you want a completely wet effect to mix back with that dry signal. If you want a really big sound it is added back in a Dry + Wet Amp combination - that is one amp plays the dry signal and another amp plays the modulated signal and the mixing happens in the room where you are listening. An example of this in a single unit is the Chorus on a JC120 where one speaker is dry and the other chorus only.

    UK Cases

You can get Gator from lots of places in the UK - Gator GClub 25 Control is supposed to fit
  8. It is a suggestion - add your vote: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/HD500-Helix-Control-of-Variax-Parameters/728102-23508
  9. I am guessing here (don't have a Helix yet), but it could be that Mix controls the combination of the phase altered signal with the input signal. 0 Mix would be completely the input signal, 10.0 Mix would be completely the phase altered signal, which funny enough will sound just like the input signal but with some small modulation in the phase. But It is the combined signals where the phased signal interferes with the input signal that is probably what you expect as a phase effect. The MXR Phase 90 doesn't have a mix control, so L6 added it, but I suspect that in order to be able to get a phase effect when run as a parallel effect and combine it later with an unaffected signal that the control goes from nothing to all phase altered. If this is the case, then the maximum effect (and standard setting for an Phase 90) is 50-50 phased and dry signals - that is maximum effect is deliberately found at 5.0

    L2m or l2t

Line 6 demoed Helix on the UK tour using 2 * L2m...
  11. And the used market can be crazy - have you seen the price of Variax Acoustic 700's in the UK? £600 is what some are asking, impossible to find for less than £450!
  12. I heard from somebody who should be in the know (no incriminating hints) who said that JTV was out of production and that all that is available is residual stock. If so then I am a bit disappointed because the Standard that I tried is nothing compared to my 69 - as to be expected for the cheaper cost price. No hints at all about a higher-end replacement, so get a JTV while you can.
  13. It was caught on video too: go to 10:20 in this video - I didn't take the video, I am the person trying not to look too stupid on the right :)
  14. I only said it because Paul Hindmarsh showed me a patch with all 32 blocks containing something - and a variety of icons in the blocks (so quite not all EQ and volume/pan). But he wouldn't play it - saying it was only to demonstrate the potential and wasn't a practical example of anything.
  15. Yes - you set it to control the output level of any of the blocks. I do the same with my HD500 controlling the final output level of a compressor after the amp model.
  16. From the demo I just saw you can load 32 FX (less with amp models) and then have the 8 main switches plus the 2 bank switches all available and each can do 8 separate actions - switching FX on or off OR toggling between 2 settings for a control on any of the FX units, and of course you can have 3 controllers (expression pedals) each controlling up to 8 things and if you have a JTV the Volume and Tone on that act as controllers as well... and then there is MIDI...
  17. Just been to the GuitarGuitar Birmingham demo with Paul (might still be on if you are very quick) and what I was told by the L6 person that the entire first batch for the UK has been exceeded by pre-orders. Therefore the Stores will be reporting "in-store" dates for the second batch which might be late October or early November but that a significant amount of that batch was still going to be completing pre-orders, so if you order now there is a good chance for around the end of the month, but that free stock in stores might not be available until the batch after that. Helix looks great, sounds great, is easy to edit, really responsive...etc. basically what everybody else said. Sounded good for a group of different players in completely different styles.
  18. On another thread on that site which I have read only a little of (backwards) http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/43521/line-6-helix/p34- it looks like there has been delays in shipping to Europe:
  19. Finally found details from a Yamaha UK employee (not official) on TheFretboard forum: http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/52004/psa-line-6-helix-tour October 1st - PMT Bristol 3rd - Mansons Guitar Show 6th - Dawsons Reading 7th - Guitar Guitar Birmingham 8th - PMT Romford 13th - Guitar Guitar Glasgow 14th - Kennys Music Glasgow 20th - Guitar Guitar Newcastle 21st - Gear4Music York 22nd - Guitar Guitar Epsom 23rd - Andertons Guildford 24th - Yamaha Music London 27th - PMT Leeds 28th PMT Manchester 29th - Dawsons Liverpool November 4th - GAK Brighton 5th - Richtone Sheffield 7th - PMT Birmingham (Musics Live) 8th - PMT Birmingham (Musics Live) 14th - Absolute Music Poole
  20. Still can't find the full list, but a few more dates for the tour: http://www.pmtonline.co.uk/blog/2015/10/01/helix-tour-2015/ Thursday 1st October: PMT Bristol Thursday 8th October: PMT East London Tuesday 27th October: PMT Leeds Wednesday 28th October: PMT Manchester Saturday & Sunday 7th & 8th November: PMT Birmingham (Music's Live Weekender!) Looks like PMT end of first week in November will be my first chance to see one - and there is a small chance that it might be in stock then as well. Really don't know why it is taking so long.
  21. Another demo... 14th November at Absolute Music in Dorset https://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/community/events/Line-6-Helix-Demo-Day-14th-Nov-2015 Only found because I am trying to find out whether anybody has any Helices in the UK - the current answer appears to be that other than Paul Hindmarsh's demo unit that there are none yet and everybody is still reporting end of October for stock. I can't find a single list of the demonstrations either, just the retailers advertising their own dates
  22. I play JTV into HD500 and a Motif XF would suggest L2t fed by keyboards and hd500 - I recommend the FX Loop to feed the keyboards into the HD500, the L2 is as accurate and consistent as anything I have played, and the automatic switch into Monitor mode is really useful. Set that up as a floor monitor and then take the XLR Out from the L2t and feed it to POH. You hear you (and the band hear you) and you get mixed properly for the audience. And you control your levels. If FOH really can't take it then set the L2t up as backline. By sending the Keyboard into the HD500 you have a single consistent source - you can feed tracks to practice along to using USB from a computer into headphones and mix it with keyboard and guitar (but not via L6 Link :(), and as long as you have decent headphones the same sound will come out of the L2 when you rehearse or play live. I used to have to have empty house time to set up sounds, but I now trust my headphones to be accurate enough that I only need to fine tune in rehearsal. Live with the L2 as a monitor it is more like a near field monitor and is not impacted by the room too much.
  23. Yeah it does - sorry it was supposed to be a quick post-script and was written a bit too quickly
