  1. HD500 also has the ability to assign a MIDI message to the switches which can be PC CC or Note. I have used them successfully to patch change a synth and trigger notes (pads) Not disagreeing about not being able to map the sent PC values
  2. That store is run by Yamaha UK so it is not surprising that they get stock quickly. Also available in Andertons: http://www.andertons.co.uk/multi-fx-units/pid40979/cid693/line-6-helix-floor-multi-effects-unit.asp
  3. Exactly - what Phil said with dual amps pan hard left and right and run in stereo and you have no problems, trying to mix them mono and it will be difficult (unless L6 allow you to specify the delay like me and meabobbo asked for ages ago - or automatically synced output delay)
  4. Whether the guitar goes into the subs depends on what style of music you are playing; drop C tuned modern metal then yes, especially if the bass is playing higher, but for classic rock it always amazes me how little low end guitar you find in studio and live recordings. Generally with everybody contributing to the low end then you get mud - even drum and bass electronic music has (when well mixed) a lot less down low than you think. I would keep the subs doing bass and kick drum.
  5. I use tube comp after the amp with threshold set quite high and then I use expression 2 to control the gain level which is the overall patch volume - the amp should not be set at too high a volume otherwise the compression will start to be obvious - you are looking for transparency not pumping
  6. The forum for HD500, JTV and DT speakers or FRFR is found here http://line6.com/support/forum/69-dream-rig-line-6-product-integration/ Variax Tuning needs to be set to "Custom" in HD Edit and Variax Control to "Preset", then select a string and pick the offset from the drop down. You should hear it happening in real time. Save the patch and the tuning should be recalled. The model light coming on and going off reflects whether JTV modelling is active or not. If you have variax mags selected as an input and not variax model then the modelling will turn off and the light go out. (or I think this is the case - I don't have my gear at work!) HD Edit user guide is here: look in section 4.1 http://uk.line6.com/data/6/0a06434dff414f7b806e5ac6b/application/pdf/POD%20HD500%20Edit%20Pilot's%20Guide%20v2.0%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20A%20).pdf
  7. An electric guitar can go down as low as you can imagine, and needs to have a low cut when direct to PA for the same reason that a bass needs it too. For example hold your bottom E string in you fingers and pull it side to side taking about 1 second for each movement - you have just created a signal that is 0.5 Hz and the speakers should have done exactly the same movement. Every guitarist does something like this at some point or other, and the signal is going to be mixed in with the rest of the bands sounds, but is absolutely useless for audio purposes. As DuneinDragon says, you need to cut these low frequencies on all instruments somewhere in the chain. If you do it in the Pod then it helps avoid clashes with the Bass, Kick, Keyboards, other Guitars and Vocals in the backline or personal monitoring, and if you a using a "FRFR" cutting the low end will increase the available headroom giving much more clarity. Once you take into account where the Bass, Kick (and in my case the other guitarist playing acoustic) are filling up the audio spectrum and the relatively modest rate of cut on many filters you may find that you can go a lot higher than you think before you sound "thin" - depending on amp and gain even settings of 200 Hz or more may improve the overall band sound.
  8. Line 6 demo the Helix with L2m at all the shows and demo tours... Well obviously they would; the only little point is that they use 2 of them in stereo
  9. Heads up for anybody looking in the UK... DV247 claim to have 3 Helix in stock: http://www.dv247.com/guitars/line-6-helix-guitar-effects-processor-and-amp-modeller-pedal--220531
  10. The only other plus point of this large delay is that I might be able to talk my wife into letting me buy one when they finally appear - currently the M20d has put a stop to any new music purchases... :(
  11. I have had good results using 4 mics on drums: 2 condensers in "recorderman" position, and two dynamics one on kick and the other on the side of the snare (pointing at the shell so it picks up the shell, snare and high hat). As long as the drummer doesn't talk too much you get pretty good isolation and if the condensers are panned wide you get a stereo width that seems impossible with the mic positions. If 4 mics was good enough for Led Zeppelin then it is good enough for our band, and 4 mics is dead easy to set up and break down again.
  12. GuitarGuitar are not listing StageSource or StageScape as products, so you must be doing a special order. Andertons are listing them, but L2t are not in stock and not coming in for a month (maybe). My guess is that Helix is being bought with L2t by a lot more people than Line 6 expected, and consequently L2 stock is right down as well. But some stores have them - for example this is a good price and can be delivered Friday: https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/active-full-range-speakers/line-6-l2t-active-speaker
  13. http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?board=138.0 If I remember correctly you will need to register in order to download patches
  14. At least the bugs should have sorted out, the editor released and perhaps a few more FX and other enhancements added by the time I can get one!
  15. "lollypop" is more of a filter when displaying posts - certain "words" are replaced when the output html is being assembled. In the past we have had times when the lollypop filter was not working quite as it normally does and the original text was displayed in all its glory.
  16. If you occasionally need to switch patches, but generally want to stick with one patch and control FX blocks, then 5-8 mode + a MIDI feedback loop and MIDI Program Change commands programmed on the upper switches could achieve what you need.
  17. All of the patches on this link should be compatible with Variax Standard as well as JTV, and will give you some ideas as well as a starting point. http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?board=138.0 There are a couple of tutorials based on the Old workbench on VettaVille somewhere that describe things like Volume and Tone Pot settings and Pickup configurations - that hasn't changed since the original variax, but you will need to adapt for the newer Software interface: http://www.vettaville.nl/page.php?id=95
  18. I didn't think that USB Audio was output via L6 Link, I think you need to use the analogue outs
  19. I couldn't wait.... I spent the money on a used M20d instead and will gain some extra DSP on the HD500 by offloading Compression, EQ, Delay, Doubling and Reverb to the M20d. Plus the ability to record the band as separate tracks. And I think it works quite well as a Live Mixer? Played with my knackered old APX-6 (pre-amp dead, so pickups directly wired to the output socket) into the M20d and then into L2t and the sound was so good that time just passed without me noticing.
  20. Voted.... Now I just need a UK Retailer with anything more promising than a "might be able to send it to you in a few weeks... maybe less than a month"
  21. Looks like JSON to me, which does make a lot of sense as: "JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data-interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate."
  22. Sounds a great idea - a page where you can rearrange the pedal assignments; even if it is only available from the external Editor (when that appears). Why don't you raise and Ideascale Idea for it?
  23. Or two setlists created in advance - one a restored copy of the other where you have disabled the cabs on one of the setlists. Is it likely that you may need to tweak the amp tone knobs as well when using a different speaker anyway?
