Could be problem with a jack contact, if it fails, it can trip the power amp mute. Or, the power amp chips have failed. Should be dealt with by a Line 6 authorized service center who knows the product. Not a self repair sort of thing.

Variax with Firehawk FX
psarkissian replied to regham's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Get to know the Firehawk FX operations manual very well, there are a number of features in this product. It will make using it with Variax, Firehawk FX and an iDevice using Bluetooth go a lot smoother. -
JTV-59 “V2” Listing at Sweetwater

Thanks, it's the work ethic I was instilled with, along with good professors who worked in tech by day and taught in college and university at night. And hanging with the likes of Phillip Taylor Kramer. His dad worked at Fermilab for a time. Good mind set to get into. -
DT25 Bricked - Any more ideas other than already on the forum to date ?

How long since your tubes were changed out?- 36 replies
-
Judging by the serial number, lack of a service history and crackling,... I would say yes, it needs a full set of tubes, including the 12AX7 China B pre-amp tubes. Sovtek 5881WXT matched set are the correct power tubes, very good. There are no instructions for doing this yourself, because the shock hazard is too great. One accidental slip and you get zapped. Been dealing with tubes 55+ years,... I still get zapped every now and then. It hurts. Leave it to a Line 6 authorized service center in your area, who can do the tube replacement and tube bias.
-
Not that I recall. So rare that it goes out like that.
-
Rarely have a problem with that. TL08x series has differential JFET inputs that are high enough impedance so that transients don't damage the chip. So they are used for in's and outs on audio devices, as opposed to a 5532/34 which are bipolar differential inputs, and more susceptible to transients. But since they are lower input noise spec, are used for internal audio signal circuits in a host of devices like the old SSL 3000 and 4000 analog series of days past (still a favorite among many audio engineers, including me). And I design audio circuits using a lot of the 5532/34 series and LM833 (Nat'l Semiconductor equal), as input noise and slew rate are the two of the more important specs for my uses. A lot of Celine Dion's "Brand New Day" and Glenn Hughes recordings were done on a 4000 series at Westlake Audio Recording, Studio-C, back in the day (2001-2002).
-
Hmmm,... yeah, that's sounding like an amp chip in the input alright.
-
High or Low input?

Using the correct tubes and bias?
-
Yes, program board out to a circuit, then the pre-amp tubes.
-
50-02-0385-1, but I couldn't find any out there, I looked. High Gain Ruby,... no, don't use that. These are not all analog tube amp of the 1960's and 70's, so can't go swapping like we used to back in the day. Follow the choices in the link, our tube amps are finicky that way. Goes with being a hybrid analog/digital tube amp. Make certain it's correctly biased, take it to an authorized Line 6 service for that, there is a bias and burn-in procedure to be done on those after tube replacement.
-
BTW, the part number is wrong, that's the un-stuffed board number. I don't see them on Full Compass, so I don't think they are still available. Input board goes to the main board, that goes to the L6 Link interface, the model signal bypassing the tube stage with the modeled signal. What tubes were put in, and what bias???
-
How long since the tube were replaced? Op-amp? Maybe. But if it sounds fine thru L6 Link, then the op-amp is good. So I suspect one of the pre-amp tubes is getting old, the power tube are getting old and negative feedback is not moderating the gain, or the all the tubes are getting old.
-
"Failed, Code: 8000000A, an undefined error" --- either a MIDI time out error or a memory load error. Could be both, maybe that's why it's "undefined". Uno is usually used to interface with the amp. DTEdit is a 3rd party app. Official L6 apps are downloaded from the official Line 6 Downloads page.

2019,... hmmm, must be new packing, hadn't seen these yet. If it's a failed cable, try to get it exchanged. -

Returned item,... maybe. We don't wrap in bag. Do you have the web link where you got it from? -
There was an update to that part number, and they are not longer by much, but are made a little longer to accommodate slightly wider adjustment range,... within limits. If the screws are not longer, then it's possible the original supply might not have all been gone through yet. I gave two of the longer ones to our shipping person. I'm in contact with my counter parts in Germany, and checking with them as well. Ja, the last two screws Ich haben sent were from my workbench. (I know, mein Deutsch is a bit rusty)

I concur with your assessment regarding the cable,... something odd there. -

If you have any custom patches, save them,... then re-Flash the guitar for v2.23 program. -
Bias is not in the manual because they don't want people getting zapped. There may still be some info about that in the Knowledge Base or HD100 Facebook group page. The Knowledge Base has it as +35mV(dc) +/- 2mV.

JTV-59 “V2” Listing at Sweetwater

V2 may also mean by their designation that it has Flash v2.00 or higher. "were there any major improvements from the ‘17 serial models to the non-dent and scratch models that have ‘19 serial numbers?" No hardware changes, the Flash was updated to v2.23 to accommodate features of the Shuriken. Many of the S&D guitars that are factory refurbs would've come across my bench. And nothing leaves my bench until it's 100%, 100% of the time. -

Sure it's not a blue light? Press on the Alt Tune and there's a second layer of models to cover things like 12 string guitars and such. There is an RGB LED set under the knobs. Green would be something other than normal Models, like a saved Model. -
Use ONLY the specified tubes and bias. This is NOT an all analog tube amp. Shock hazard is great, replacement and bias should be done by a trained Line 6 authorized service technician. It hurts when you get zapped.
