I fully recommend giving this a read, some really useful advice that relates to the firehawk despite being written for the hd pods http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ Turns out I had the master on all my amps set to 100% and dialling it back to 50% and putting a drive pedal in front got me the tones I was looking for Genuinely blown away by this pedal at the moment
-
I recently bought a jtv 59 and it came with the latest firmware so yours probably does too but obviously no way of knowing for sure, I needed to use workbench anyway though because the volume of the strings was unbalanced, all were at 100% volume but the E,A,D strings were much too loud when playing chords If I'd have blown that much money on L6 gear I'd be hoping they'd throw me a bone to help me out somehow Might be worth a pm to digital igloo asking how imminent integration with the helix is, if it's miles off it might make your decision easier

Hard to explain really , the only valve amp I ever owned was a Marshall tsl and it had this glassy but warm clean sound to it, which amp are you mostly using for cleans?

Does anybody have any tips for creating juicy tube like tones? I have a really nice rhythm tone using the PhD but I'm looking specifically for a clean tone and a just beginning to break up tone On my old zoom g5 there was a tube parameter on the amp models which you could turn up and down and I found that really effective I know the sounds I'm looking for are in there somewhere just hoping someone could help out My set up is a jtv59>firehawk>stagesource lt3 Thanks for reading

Wow that sounds great, thanks for all your help guys
-
OK I worked it out, I knew it would be something simple
-
OK so I'm sure this is simple but I'm not exactly a wizz on computers I have the new strat file downloaded and copied to my desktop I have hd workbench open but now what? How do I copy the new guitar over say custom bank 1?
-
Thanks very much for that, I'll try that out today cheers
-
There's no reason why it shouldn't, some of the clean amps are designed to work well with piezo pickups
-
Ah that's interesting regarding string volumes, I dropped the EADG to 90% but not much difference it seems I need to be a bit more heavy handed Thanks for the help

Hi I have a few questions I can't find answers too, First of all I borrowed a jtv69 for a few days before deciding to get myself a 59 and I much preferred the spank model on the 69, the guy I borrowed it from has never updated so it's possibly using an older firmware , is there a different spank model I can download? (I thought I read a post on this subject recently but I can't find it) Also is it normal that my B and high E strings sound quiet compared to the other strings ? I know I can adjust string volumes in workbench but just wondered if it's maybe a symptom of a problem? Cheers for reading and thanks for any help

Firehawk with an amp, or with a powered speaker?
mcbeddall replied to angelectrico's topic in Firehawk
You can turn the amp modelling off but yeah it still uses a slot , the hd500 would be better as an fx only board -
Same here, I never want to go back to adjusting real knobs bizarrely Thing I really love is when I have a spare few minutes at work I can set up a new patch to try later or search for tones and add them to my tones

Firehawk with an amp, or with a powered speaker?
mcbeddall replied to angelectrico's topic in Firehawk
I had some tones on my old pod xt live that I just couldn't recreate on the hd500 or the zoom g5 when I got the firehawk it took me 15 minutes to recreate a clean patch , crunch patch and lead patch that I was happy with If your looking for something that's quick and simple and leaves more time for playing and less time tweaking you will no doubt be happier with the firehawk The hd500 can be very very good but I found that a lot of the time there were way too many parameters to adjust and I ended up chasing my tail trying to get the tone just right -

Firehawk with an amp, or with a powered speaker?
mcbeddall replied to angelectrico's topic in Firehawk
The amp packs are compatible with the hd500x but if you need to know more about the 500 I'd post some questions in the hd500 forum For each of line 6 products you can download an amp and fx list to see what is included , I think of the amps you like only the jc120 is in the map packs but I could be wrong -
Line6 Discontinuing JTVs?
mcbeddall replied to johoffry's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I dunno I think guitarists who are into their modelling fx and whatever will have heard about them , many probably don't realise what a good piece of kit it is though (myself included until a week ago) Guitarists who aren't into modelling would probably never consider one anyway The jtv was a step in the right direction from my viewpoint , I never would have tried one if it wasn't equipped with mag pickups I think the standard could use at least one different shape, I've never been a strat guy so they don't really do anything for me aesthetically I wouldn't be surprised if line 6 are working on the next level with a new modelling system to pair with the helix -
Try running into the fx return of the jcm800 you will bypass the preamp and then the modelled amps will sound better You may also find that selecting "no cab" in the amp model will improve it further as you already have a cab in your signal chain (the jcm cab)

89f mags have been slowly getting noisier.

Are you using a vdi or regular guitar cable? Always worth trying a different cable first -
What Is Better?jtv Or The Old Variax 700?
mcbeddall replied to arislaf's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Santa dropped a 59 down the chimney yesterday and I'm totally blown away My go to guitar is a fender telecaster with Seymour Duncan pickups Took my 59 out the bag yesterday and it was still in tune despite the trip from Andertons to the north pole and back First play was impressive , easily plays as well as my tele ,and the mag pickups sound awesome, haven't really played with the models all that much just yet but very impressed so far I find it hard to believe line 6 ever made a guitar as good as this before but I haven't voted as I'm yet to try a 700 -
Firehawk with an amp, or with a powered speaker?

Ignore me I've just noticed the little dialogue box on the left of your drawing that explains it much simpler I'm clearly hallucinating from consuming too many mince pies My full Christmas apologies -
Firehawk with an amp, or with a powered speaker?
mcbeddall replied to angelectrico's topic in Firehawk
Yeah think I got that right , so the bit you've got labelled as external fx would be the guitar amps preamp That would mean you could use the sound of the guitar amp with stomp boxes in front and delays and reverbs behind And also you could turn off the fx loop in the firehawk and use the amp models (because with the fx loop turned off you would be removing the guitar preamp from the circuit and feeding straight into the guitar amp fx return and so using only the power amp section -
Firehawk with an amp, or with a powered speaker?
mcbeddall replied to angelectrico's topic in Firehawk
Well I'm no expert as I only ever used the 4 cable method once but I think the guitar goes to the firehawk input (as your diagram) Then from the fx send of the firehawk into the input of the guitar amp Next , guitar amp fx send into fx return on the firehawk And last output of the firehawk into the guitar amp fx return -
Firehawk with an amp, or with a powered speaker?
mcbeddall replied to angelectrico's topic in Firehawk
That's not the 4 cable method , if you follow that diagram then you will always need an amp model -
I never noticed it changing without playback of an mp3, so you've taught me something there, It possibly balances volume when recording direct too If in doubt set it to 50-60 %
