  1. Forgot to mention, HUGE AG Stomp fan here. I bought it when it was brand new and I use it often when I just want a simple guitar into PA. Only one of the mic images works well for me, but that built-in EQ is so outstanding I can make any guitar sound great through any PA in less than 90 seconds. I WISH they would update that tech and make an AG Stomp II or something. MagicStomp had it in there but it was noisier and didn't quite sound the same.
  2. Consider, though, that I didn't add the vintage tube pre, any EQ or compression. All of those help with the sound IMMENSELY and I'd never make a patch without them.
  3. it already has some modeling. an IR ends up just mucking the sound all up... if you mix it 50% or less it might be cool. Try it!
  4. In my experience... signal chain is... Acoustic IR -> vintage tube pre (line level) -> studio comp -> parametric EQ (set to taste)
  5. I've been DELIGHTED with Helix as an interface. Recording up to 4 tracks at once (I'm sure it can do more, but I haven't had occasion to) I have had way more stable recording than my venerable old MOTU Ultralite MK III. The MOTU farts out every now and then and Helix hasn't one single time... even when I've been running beta firmware! Using the vintage mic pre in helix very subtly, I get so much better vocal sounds that on a recent project I re-tracked all my vocals through it. Listen for free if you want here. https://peterhamm.bandcamp.com/album/protest-songs
  6. Video with careful honest comparison coming soon... stand by... uploading in a few minutes.
  7. But the crowdster is really, when you plug it in, just a really good sounding plugged-in acoustic guitar. Nothing that weird about it in my (extensive) experience. Only difference is that is sounds better by itself plugged in directly to a system than most "real" acoustic guitars do.
  8. EXACTLY. I use it at 100%. Sounds A - MAZ - ING! Will make a video when I can.
  9. So far, only with my Crowdster Plus 2, which is technically an acoustic piezo guitar, with real bronze strings. Tomorrow I intend to try with the piezos in my two electrics (both of them Tom Andersons with PowerBridges). I will, if I get time, try with the electric pickups, but I'd never actually use them that way. And I will try and make a video/audio sample.
  10. http://www.3sigmaaudio.com/acoustic-impulses/ Been using my own homebrewed out of Mama Bear, as well as the Taylor (Aura) and Wes Hunter ones that are out there. These are so good I'll never use those ones again, guys. No... Lie... If you use your acoustic with Helix, pony up the 30 bucks right now! I paid my own money for these, they didn't give them to me. Just. Wow.
  11. But... You could have multiple paths, one being dry and the other being only the harmonies, and have them go through different amps even!
  12. I monitor with IEMs and practice with them, but I never. never. never. tweak tones with them. Learned that lesson a long time ago.
  13. You scrolled a little too far. What OS are you using, plug that in see if it helps.
  14. The. Number. One. Tip. Create your tones listening to a speaker like you'll use at the gig... at gig volume. (and never trust headphones) Doing this eliminates most problems people have live I'll bet.

    Global EQ

I don't use the GLobal EQ, but I voted it up, too.
  16. You have to scroll a list, the way they've set it up for you no one can send you a link. you go to http://line6.com/support/ Select "Helix" from the left hand drop down at the top (unless you have Helix Rack). CLick "Go". Scroll the list. As of today, it's the second item down.
  17. The key with any FX is to work with JUST that effect and try all the possibilities. I personally don't often use comp on electric guitar except I DO use a very subtle studio comp at the end of every single chain, just like I would in a studio. But when I do use comp on electric, it's usually early in the chain, and I use it occasionally to squash the HECK out of the signal.
  18. I don't need the Editor, and only really love it for anything that requires typing in characters. I only use it, because as a beta tester I feel obliged to test EVERYTHING I can. So... Learn the unit on the panel, it's easy and start with that. I don't like presets, but the first few in I think Factory 1 are really simple paths that showcase each amp one at a time. Find the one you like, adjust to taste, and use that to start imho. Chris, it's all here. http://line6.com/software/
  19. Is the JTV 1/4" output a TRS of some kind? I didn't know that. I'd use a VDI anyway, but that doesn't work with everything.
  20. That hasn't been their M.O. You can buy model packs for an HD 500 or POD XT (the X3 has all the XT model packs) but they haven't been an a la carte thing. So far, they haven't had any amp models that you have to buy separately, but if the HD 500 is any indication, they may not do that for at least 3 or 4 years, simply including any new amps and FX models in firmware updates at no cost, but not a la carte.

    Go to mic???

I always use one of the ribbons.
  22. Helix is not the first device that is more trouble-free if you just use a guitar cord to a D.I. box, so just do that. It may be grounding or the phantom issue, but the bottom line is, you found a solution, so keep using it. I have rigorously compared, and Helix doesn't sound any better or worse whether you use the balanced or 1/4" outs. HD 500 actually sounded better out the 1/4" output to me and others, but with Helix it seems identical.
