There is no way to run Control with the Floor unit. No connection possibility whatsoever. It has no MIDI, only a Cat-6 connection that has no relationship to anything on anything other than Helix Rack. There is a little 6-button thingee that some guys are using to change snapshots while they have their Helix in 10-button mode, via MIDI.

I'm using one that's 12 or 15 feet. No problems, even recording multiple channels of digital audio.
-
Somehow, you got the wrong one downloaded? If you are on Windows, de-install. Re-download, and re-install.

The AX8 blows. It's a worthless hunk of junk. Send it to me and I'll get rid of it for you.

I tried a few, but liked the cabs I like better in Helix, after I change the mic, sometimes do some lo and hi cut, and change distance and early reflection. What works for you works for you, no problem. For me, a dual cab in Helix blows away any external IR I've tried. I do use IRs for my acoustic signal path, too. Don't forget about that.

Well, what I've learned is this. Electric guitar and bass sound best through Guitar in. Acoustic guitar with active pickups sounds good through Aux in, just as good through a return, or with a DI through the mic input (totally unnecessary step, though, imho). Acoustic guitar signal with passive piezo or a Fishman PowerBridge MUST be connected to a return for best results. Mic input also works well for this, but is an unnecessary step. So, yeah, try the active input.

Master output should, imho, always be set to full if you can, then dial back the volume where you need to on the amp/speaker.
-
Which input are you plugging the acoustic into. It should never be plugged into "Guitar" input. That's for an electric guitar only. If you have an active preamp on it, it should go into Aux. If it's passive, you should probably have it go into Return 1 (or 2, 3, or 4) and then you will need to use the vintage tube pre and/or one of the many fine Acoustic IRs out there, and you might find that you are delighted. I am.

I would upgrade immediately. Wouldn't even plug my guitar in until I'm done. Read the instructions carefully and you'll be fine.

No. INFINITYPLE rectifire.

Any way to get more than 10 foot switches in a patch?
PeterHamm replied to musiclover7's topic in Helix
That morningstar thing is great, for instance, if you want to have 10 footswitches AND access to scenes separately at the same time. It will NOT give you access to more than 10 FX on/off stomp-style footswitches, though. If you need more than 10, I think you need to re-think your workflow. -
The only challenge is that a "real electric guitar", in my experience, only sounds right plugged into the front input. I think I ideascaled for the back returns inputs to be "switchable" so that they can do the auto impedance guitar level stuff, but until then, I have to run my electric signal to the front jack, and my acoustic to Return 1 on the back.

But the sound is no different.

Do you mean upgrading from HD 500 to HD 500X? Yes. Meaningless. If you can make your patches without hitting the wall in the original HD 500, you don't need the X for anything. The sound is totally identical.

DING DING DING DING DING!

I don't like wahs in these things because I generally want to use my EXPs for other things, and it's so easy to put one before the unit or in a loop, so just use the wahs you have in a loop is my recommendation.

Don't buy the wrong tool for the job. If you have a KC880 available, sure. but don't tweak your sounds through it and expect them to sound right in the house and in the PA. If you are going to spend a grand, get a fantastic FRFR. If you MUST have stereo, get a pair.

Although I STRONGLY recommend making your own. All good reasons to pay a few bucks for a kickstart!

Here's a quick example. With one touch of a footswitch, I can: change or add amps, change parameters on amps or FX, turn on and off FX... with no inter-patch latency.

This... is what we WANT to hear...

2.0 Has any changes been made to the amp modelling in general?
PeterHamm replied to johnonguitar's topic in Helix
It is very possible that someone did something behind the scenes and didn't tell us. But... thank goodness they aren't changing the sound of existing models from one FW to the next. I do NOT like that about the way Fractal does things, personally. -
Why should they bother? It takes maybe 10 seconds to make this adjustment as it stands now...
