It's not just that, though. I have a cousin who fixes everything in his cars. He thinks I'm NUTS for not doing that. Well... if I take my brakes apart and then put them back together, I guarantee that I will die the next time I drive that car. We aren't all built with the same capacities. It's like the guys at Best Buy's Geek Squad and stuff like that. 90% or more of what they do is stuff the user can learn them selves if they are smart and savvy enough or strive to become that way. But if everybody knows how to fix stuff on their computer, then those guys are out of work, and they're on unemployment, then they end up getting really angry at the world and they buy a gun and shoot everyone. It's a public safety issue, really...

I don't begrudge anybody EVER for asking money to do something simple, and yet something that somebody will pay for. There are folks out there who are ready to pay for help or pay for patches or whatever. If they'd do a search, they might find what they are looking for easily, but they don't. That's on them, not on the guy willing to take their money. I, personally, have consulted with a BUNCH of folks on how to use Helix (and before that HD 500) to do what they wanted. I have always said, it's free help (even if I spent an hour on skype, which I have a few times) and I have said when asked (ONLY when asked) if you want to give me a "tip" that's entirely up to you, but I'm not asking for it. And a few times, they have. Would I do that for money, as in... for a job...? Probably not. Did I take the money? Hell yeah. Nothing wrong with what Chad and others are doing at all. Do I need their help? No, so I wouldn't pay for it. Do some others. Apparently, yes.

But I bet you could get them to give you some very piano-like sounds and such. I don't know that anybody has tried, and you wouldn't get all the way there, but it could make for some interesting stuff.

One thing I've noticed about modeling since its early days. With my POD and POD 2.0, and probably even up to X3Live, I couldn't rely on one patch to work the best it can with two different kinds of guitars. It just didn't happen. Whereas with an amp, I could, in fact, plug a strat and then a tele or a Les Paul into the same amp (if it's a good amp) and they could all sound good. Now Helix (and HD 500 before that) leveled the playing field more, so that I CAN get a decent tone from one patch out of two different kinds of guitars, but still, to be its BEST, I STILL find that you simply need to find what works for you for each guitar and make the patch for that guitar. I have found, however, that, for me, the Matchless models work "the best" with all my guitars, but NOT on the same setting. So I still have to make different patches or snapshots (patches works better for me, ymmv).

bit crusher on extreme settings?

I don't besmirch anybody selling patches. But not only would I probably never buy them, I've never even used anything but a patch I made totally from scratch ever since about 2000 when I started this whole modeling thing. Maybe I should be selling my patches...

I have the rack and control... and imho, the Floor is the right choice for nearly everyone. HAve fun!

HELIX RETURN inputs - what is the input impedance ?
PeterHamm replied to d0stenning's topic in Helix
I doubt that's it, since when you plug a guitar into them it sounds WAY different from the front input set to 1MOhm. I tested it. -
That is "sig-worthy"...

My channel volume is almost always at max for my clean sounds, and I never get any clipping. But I don't use high-gain amps, maybe that's it.
-
It is probably this. Honestly, to be safe and sound, I just run my 1/4" out to a DI box. Works great, sounds the same in the system as the XLR does.

If I could afford to own both, I would, too.

I don't think it will work. Sorry. But I hope if you try it that I'm wrong. I used to have a problem with noise with an interface in my house, but used a laptop, so I just unplugged the power supply from the laptop while recording and dealt with it that way.

So where do you get those parts?
-
They could certainly make a new version that has perhaps MIDI implemented and maybe is larger and with built-in expression pedals, but they made it this size so you could fit it in a 2-sp rack drawer. Also, if they added more buttons it would probably be a serious firmware upgrade and the firmware would end up being so different on Rack than FLoor that it might not be worth it. I don't think they need to update Control. I love it just as it is.

My Helix Cuts Through the Mix -- All About EQ -- Here's My Settings
PeterHamm replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in Helix
You could do that in your presets with an EQ block instead of using the global EQ for this, too. For those who want or need to save the global EQ for when you need to "fix" a bad room. But if it works, it's the right way to do it... always... -
it is a public conversation, and you are misbehaving in what is essentially a public space. You do this everywhere on the internet? Just curious...

can't get my head around recording with Logic pro.
PeterHamm replied to markblack77's topic in Helix
Leave software monitoring on... but set your Helix patch so that it goes out USB 1 and 2 ONLY. NOT multi including output. -
I don't know if you've noticed, but your feedback score is probably reflective of how your statements are received around here, sir. (-17 as of this moment) I think when you think you're being sarcastic (and I'm sure you mean to be) you are being perceived as being rude and offensive. If you'd like to hang around a while, perhaps you could re-examine your tone. Calling someone a "dumbass" is not the best way to go. Jus' sayin'...

using different USB channels is easier than doing that panning, though.

can't get my head around recording with Logic pro.
PeterHamm replied to markblack77's topic in Helix
When its' problematic, one thing you can try is going in from Helix, but out through the built-in headphones just for monitoring. That will, at least, help to figure out what's going on. You don't need to upgrade (although I think it's money well spent) to do this. -
$145 mod to fix the Helix: Whammy and Octave tracking glitch issue
PeterHamm replied to WickedFinger's topic in Helix
Aint that the truth! charge me an extra hundred, rackmount that thing, add midi... and TAKE MY MONEY!
