  1. The grass is always greener... Yes, there are some guys that have to have 200+ amps. I can't figure why, since so many of us use a very small number. There are about half a dozen amps in Helix that I adore and only 2 or 3 that I actually use. No way would I want or need hundreds. I ain't got time to go through them. Now... if ease of use is an issue, that's ONLY on the actual unit. The AX8 seems hard to use on the unit, but the editing software from Fractal is AMAZING... so if you have a computer and are going to use that, the difference is less. To me, it's simple... ...if you must have a huge number of amps, Fractal is your game. ...if you must have an easy-to use unit and aren't going to use a computer, or if you need multiple chains, Helix is the ticket. If you can only get a great sound out of only one of them... you're doing something wrong, no offense.
  2. XLR cables are generally not shielded like guitar cables. Loads of noise interference possibilities.
  3. Except that, like me, most guys after using the Helix for a short while don't even own the HD 500 anymore...
  4. the cables that don't sound good might have something wrong with them... seriously.
  5. I compared them rigorously when I first got my Helix. in the house and in the mix, to be honest, the HD 500 was good enough for me. Really. It was. But I definitely like Helix better when you really listen, and it's way more flexible.
  6. I've used... Mission Line 6 pedal and didn't like it (but that's just me, most people love it and it works great). Old Korg EXP2 and it works pretty well, but it plastic-ey. Zoom pedal with custom TRS to TS cables that I made (I. LOVE. THIS PEDAL.) Ernie Ball VP Jr. (best EXP with Helix imho, don't remember which one it is...)
  7. They don't reveal future plans, as a publicly held company they are advised (correctly imho) by their lawyers in this fashion. If sheer number of amps and FX is your only metric, Fractal may be for you. But remember that at the same price points, you get one single pathway in AX8 and up to 4 in Helix (twice the processing power, really). So... it depends on what is important to you in these regards, because I've heard both and they both sound great.
  8. If you're going direct, though... Look, people. tweak your patches at gig volume through whatever is going to be used at the gig. All problems solved...
  9. It happens WAY before on my Zoom pedals I'm using, but I actually am using them because I like it this way...
  10. Not necessarily. I've re-installed firmware and it has not re-updated Control. I think it only updates if there's a mis-match. you MIGHT have to go back one version and then re-install the latest. Not even sure if that will work because I haven't tried it updating Control both times.
  11. This has happened with me on some beta builds. When I re-installed firmware it went away. Also, sometimes when I turn off JUST the floor unit and back on again, and/or disconnect and re-connect the EXPs.
  12. Yup. Bypass Assign is the new name.
  13. Drinking at work... so sad...
  14. navigate your joystick to where it highlights the effect you want to assign. Now, TOUCH (with your finger) but do not PRESS the footswitch you want to assign to it. Click OK. Done.
  15. Safari should have nothing to do with it. Download the file, quit safari, then unzip the file that downloads. That said, get Chrome or Firefox and thank me later.
  16. Here are some links to some acoustic IRs. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1XgNa5vH3j1ZkVoTFJLQ241WTg/view https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f2qdh9jtcl6s5cv/AACRlEt-UVeLAhuvV4YwMY7Wa?dl=0 https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5YMP7cdVF-LTWE5TkFrb0ZTUGc
  17. I got a Mel9 to add to Helix. Awesome. POG 2, too. Only two pedals I'm using currently.
  18. Voted up, although I think syncing the looper is impossible.
  19. This is the way to go for recording imho. You could also simultaneously record a dry guitar signal and re-amp it differently later.
  20. It's possible on the rack+control actually. You can turn on multiple FX with one footswitch, you can even turn one on and one off at the same time AND change a few block parameters. You can't have one FX assigned to multiple footswitches. Logic nightmare that.
  21. The answer might be a midi cable from out to in, and use the MIDI tricks Digital Igloo has pointed out so that you can be in 10-stomp mode and simply use any footswitch you want to do snaps instead.
  22. If it's anything like the Zooms I'm using now, you don't need a custom cable, just use a TS to TS cable (normal guitar cable) and flip the polarity in Helix. My Mission pedal is now gone. I didn't like it as much as others. EB VP Jr. is still the absolute best EXP I've used with Helix.
  23. Honestly, I think it causes more confusion than functionality and wouldn't want them to change it. you can already get Stomps/Presets, Stomps/Snapshots, or Snapshots/Presets (as well as just Snapshots, just Presets or just Stomps). I think that's plenty functionality for virtually everyone.
