Line 6 gets competition from Vox

Looks mores like a 'practice/travel' guitar to me... -
Yay, jumped in then OR! I think you will enjoy it as you get used to it. There aren't many of us users this side of the pond so can I ask where you got it?
-
If you are looking for 'plain' sitar sound check out some acoustic patches and switch your variax to sitar.

No problem Old-Rocker everyone here tries to help. And its a lot to get your mind round to start with! As I have the whole Dream Rig I am able to assign things to the guitar so on most of my overdriven patches I make the Tone Knob on the guitar the Drive on the amp - this allows me to 'dial in the dirt' from the guitar. Confusing to begin with! It sounds harder than it is but the flexibility is so vast you just end up making the gear do what you want it to. I play a vast array of songs in a covers band so the fact that I can switch sounds from Fender Clean to Mesa Dirty then switch to an acoustic in the same song it has made the learning curve for the POD worth it. One thing I wish I had done is learn how to programme the pod without a computer from day one as I used to find I needed to to tweak something at rehearsal but couldn't do it as I wasn't attached to a computer. I now know how to do stuff from the POD but it would have been easier to have started there!

I have about 8 basic patches that I 'know' the sound of so I don't need to see the values from the pots. I can't remember actually changing the pots constantly on any gear I've had during a gig. When I've had to do this is a pain. Now with my Dream Rig if I have a major change in sound coming up I just switch patch rather than need to fiddle with the knobs. It's about playing with the knobs in the bedroom and having a list of patches you will use when you gig. I do find it difficult to remember where all the sounds are so I make a list and keep it handy. Probably why I compromise and use c8 patches when I gig.

HD500X to DT25 connection ?
Matt_Brown replied to Old-Rocker's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
I think you would have to see a schematic to be sure how the connection is made. As for the settings the knobs on the DT never move - I set those at 12:00 too! As far as I am aware the settings are held in the pod, even though you can over ride these with the DT. Unless you save them to a patch the pod will re load the last saved settings after power down. I'm not familiar with the Mustang but do find the 500x/DT set up very easy despite being 'old', once you get used to the idea that the knobs do not necessarily reflect the current settings. You have all the control you need.... -
HD500X to DT25 connection ?
Matt_Brown replied to Old-Rocker's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
It only retains settings if you save them to the patch. The knobs are generally in sync - as I'm a bit ocd I tend to have them at 12:00! - and only show their true value in the POD screen, momentarily, when you turn a knob. A black dot shows the current saved value and a line shows what you have twiddled it to. It works quite well when you get over not seeing the exact setting as you can twiddle all you like and either save the patch if you like the new sound or just re load the patch to Fi back to how it was before you played with it. Hard to do that with a 'normal' amp. Hope this helps! -
HD500X to DT25 connection ?
Matt_Brown replied to Old-Rocker's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
You control that from the POD. Basically you can control everything except the reverb via saved patches or by twiddling the knobs on the 500x. I mostly use pre models in my patches but there are comments from peeps here who prefer to use full. I think it depends on what volume you are playing at and what sort of music. Obviously just use your ears and see what sounds best. You will struggle to find another rig where you can go from strat through fender amp to 12 string chime to LP through some high gain monster at the press of a foot switch. And of course any sound in between. -
Head over to customtone. It's the Line6 database for such things.

Use it in LVM - low volume mode - all the time and it effectively turns the valves off...

When does the DT25 override the HD500?
Matt_Brown replied to karmicfreak's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
As far as I'm aware the reverb on the DT is 'always on' so you need to turn that down if you are using reverb on the POD. I sometimes find the switches on the POD need pressing quite hard to make sure the patch is 'sent' to the DT. -
All good ideas peeps but the Christmas fairy left me £200 which will run me to a mic stand monitor. Unfortunately I don't have the £'000's I need for an iem setup for 6 people. Especially as our mixer has 2 monitor sends... I'm guessing venues are a bit different here in the UK as you almost never find a venue with a sound person provided. As for playing stadiums, I can but dream :-)

I have considered that Rads but I seem to know as many people who have given up with in ears as like them. Allied to the fact that I'm 'old' and whilst not completely closed to 'new tricks' I'm guessing that I'll prefer to not quite hear FOH & monitors to the isolation of an in ear system.

Good points. Yes, a bit of a vicious circle! I think we will have to give one a go then take it from there. We are all pretty experienced but, as DunedinDragon says, we may have to turn this sort of pub gig down.

Thanks for this. It's the bass players idea - he has been using a sans amp for a while and it 'works' rather than is ideal - and the more I think about it trying to hear the whole band through the main mix (by trying to be as in front as we can without feedback) is 'not the best idea'. Needs must though! I can't wait until the band is more established and we can turn down gigs like this! My idea with the fx150 would be to put the POD and my vocal and have it on my mic stand but from what you peeps say it might be better to have one on a separate stand and put a FOH mix in it (and hope we don't play so loud it distorts!) So we can all hear it. Point taken about the drum kit and I will suggest that but still think floor monitors in this place will be a no no. Any other ideas/comments gratefully received. Thanks. And I hope you are all having a great Christmas!

I'm using a 500x with a DT25 and JTV59. We have a few small gigs coming up where it will be impossible to take amps because of lack of space. There will still be drums, another guitar and bass and we will use a pa. It will be 'band volume' but not ear splitting loud. I'll put my pod straight into the pa but then started wondering how I'm going to hear myself - there isn't room for floor monitors either! Anyone have any experience using one of those mic stand personal monitors such as the TC-Helicon fx-150 or Behringer B205D? My main concern, of course, is "will it be loud enough"! Thoughts?
-
Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find a thread! We are going to experiment using just 500x into the PA and then probably use amps (I have a DT25 and a JTV 59) for larger venues. I had set some patches up with two paths, one with pre and the other with full amp models. The patches didn't sound very good through the PA so I changed the output setting to studio direct and this was much better. But that seems to be a global setting so I'm guessing it will affect the DT as those patches are set up with the combo mode on. Do I have to go back to tweaking the sounds on the DT path or switch back to combo and tweak the PA ones - or is there a better way of doing this? Thanks people !

As the other posts say this is very subjective. I would give a DT25 or 50 a go. When you have a guitar that can be loads of different guitars you may as well have a valve amp that can be loads of different amps. Add an HD POD and you have a dream rig...
-
If you do hook it up to a computer, yes, it is easier to modify patches. But if you don't learn to modify patches using the knobs on the POD then it's really hard to tweak sounds on the fly - e.g to adjust to the acoustics of a particular room.
-
As far as I'm aware the patch 'saves'the level in it. The knobs then simply turn it up or down from the assigned volume. In this regard they won't ever line up, except by accident. This enables you to have different settings for different amps - something the knobs can't mirror.
-
I've had this. Generally I forgot to allocate the volume pedal to a footswitch (toe switch usually). Have a look on that page in Edit.

If you get the Acoustic DT patch from Customtone I cobbled together then use the FX send to the Amplifi and L6 link to the DT you should get a great acoustic tone. You could probably then use pre tones to DT & amp B tones with an FX block in that path to the Amplifi.

As pianoguy says, work with your ears. If you want a starting place then the acoustic patches for variax are set pretty 'flat' and should give you a reasonable starting place...
