Anyone using a JTV 69s with Amplifi ?
Matt_Brown replied to Gkf9's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yes, I recall now it was lack of integration that talked me out me off the original amifi purchase. I have a 'Dream Rig' and am very happy with the sounds I get at 'the press of a footswitch'. The thing that make my 30 a practice tool is that I can't change patches (without forking out for the footswitch) and there is a distinct lag changing patches with the app (which I would need to check before buying a footswitch). Good luck with your purchases/investments. And I would encourage you to get out of the bedroom, even if you just jam with some mates. It's the best way to 'hone your tone' as well as improve your playing! -

I use my 59 with my Amplifi 30 for practice/fun and they sound awesome together. A while ago I tried the bigger brothers with a view to using them for acoustic sounds with my DT but the 75 wasn't loud enough to gig with and I felt that the 150 was just too big to hump around. Depends what you want to use it for! -
I play guitar and bass and use a 500x as with the press of a footswitch I can can amps & and any settings I need. Saves carrying two rigs around! As Silverhead said, the sounds are very good. I find with bass that The sounds I want are easily found in the HD amps.

Create tuning patch or model
Matt_Brown replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I almost never use the mags but have never had any tuning stability issues. Def nothing affected by outside noise. Have you tweaked string volume or something to make the bridge super sensitive? Maybe try moving your hand over the bridge to see if stability changes? That might indicate an issue? -
I would connect using L6 link so you don't need to worry too much about the setting. Overall though, just use your ears. The one that is good for you is the one that sounds best. Setting up patches for different uses/volumes is hard (without running at the volume and in the space you would normally use). Again, experiment. Download a bunch of tones from Customtone and then tweak these to sound as you want. Try and do the tweaking at the volume and in the room you will use it. I would have a bank of tones (the same) for each use - house, practice & recording (you could also record direct from the pod). This way you can start with 'the same tone' then tweak it to how you like it for the volume you will use it at. Generally I would play with the amp EQ depending on volume use (I'm assuming the house volume will be a lot quieter than the practice). I would then maybe use Global EQ if I was playing in different rooms (at the same volume) to take account of change of room size/shape. Hope this helps!

One thing to remember about the 59 is the frets are pretty high. I had mine set up 'as low as it would go' and it still 'looked' high as the eyes reference point is the 'board. Plays great though. Another thought is that no two guitars (even the same make/model) will play exactly the same. It's part of the fun!

UK stores stocking JTV models ?
Matt_Brown replied to mykejb's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
When I went in to Yamaha a few weeks ago they only had an 89 and a couple of the new Yamaha variaxs. I got mine from Andertons in Guildford as they had lots of JTV's at the time. I'd give them a call. -
I would just come out of the left or right jack. There are loads of choices. I'm sure you will be fine.. Yes, any earphones will work. You need a 6mm (same as a guitar) jack. Happy PODing!

That's a good description Billbee. People here seem to only ever 'go out for dinner'. Very few people go 'out for a dance' and those that do go clubbing and listen to 'that computer generated stuff'. It's tough!

Its not that high a horse PG! I totally agree it's you. However, in the UK pretty much all the grassroots music is played in the corner of a pub (bar). No room for risers and no names in lights. We have a banner now that we put up behind the drummer so they know who we are though. In a pub you are lucky to take £300 (that's $13.75 now we are out of Europe ;-)) so most bands don't split it an extra way to employ a soundperson. There are no 'contracts' just cash and if you start demanding things they just give your gig to another band. I don't like accepting the way things are but in the 30+ years I've been doing it (as a hobby 'cause it doesn't pay enough!) very little has changed. The X Factor and (insert your country)'s Got Talent have damaged the playing field imo as people will only go to a theatre size venue (of the sort you have in the States) to see a tribute band or some clapped out 1/2 of a band from yesteryear. It's incredibly hard to get a break as a band playing your own material. Yes we have a Musicians Union and I guess if everyone refused to play for peanuts and with no contracts then maybe it would change but who wants to be the 1st to say no? All the money is in functions - we can earn £1,000 to play a wedding - so playing the pubs/bars is pretty much seen as getting exposure.

@pianoguy. I'm sure this came up somewhere before but over here in blighty you pretty much have to be the Beatles to get a soundman at a gig. Most bands play in pubs and you are lucky to get your own corner (no stage) and we generally take our own pa. I've not used the GEQ myself but guess it would be useful to fit better with different room acoustics. If only I knew how!

Need USB Interface
Matt_Brown replied to musicimpossible's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
As far as I'm aware that would work but the cable appears to be wrong. The one I have comes with a Ethernet cable that is shielded on end to go in the guitar and not the other. I don't think a shielded end will fit in the interface.... -
Why you bought a JTV?
Matt_Brown replied to sabastiane's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I'm very happy with my 59. I've always played in groups/bands playing a really wide variety of material. The sort of thing where you need to swap guitars mid song rather than mid set! My Dream Rig allows me to do this with the press of a footswitch. It also allows me to change turnings or use a virtual capo without that embarrassing 'retuning gap'. Ok, it's not the most engaging guitar to play and you can argue till the cows come home that it 'doesn't sound like (insert guitar name here)' but I'm usually playing to a happy group of dancing punters, not to a bunch of beard stroking musos who are analysing my sound. In this domain having the ability to switch from a (very passable) acoustic sound to jangly tele to gutsy overdriven humbuckers as described means my '79 Strat and '00 Taylor invariably get left at home... -

I guess you know that you can use a POD HD too? -
Are you certain that you have an effect linked to the toe switch? That could be why nothing happens...
-
You can use a high quality xlr as well as an AES/EBU cable. Line 6 recommend a Planet Waves xlr on their site. I've used both and personally and hear a difference. Some people find the digital cable is more stable though. Enjoy.

Good (tube)amp for HD500x 4CM (low wattage; max 15/20 watt)

Brad had a wrong 'un and had to send it back under warranty. See his other thread. Most peeps don't have any issues (sorry Brad)... -

Matt_Brown replied to nicjw's topic in POD HD
You would be better off with a DT25 and use L6 Link (although I guess you could use 4cm if you 'had' to). It's designed to work with the pod. 'Nuff said.... -
I think you will be happier with the pair as they are made for each other...

Have a look in Customtone. There are loads of tones there. You can search by guitar player to get patches that sound like people you like then use the Edit software to see how the patches are built then make your own tweaks.

Enjoy!

LOW DOWN 150 terrible noise when plugging in
Matt_Brown replied to robvandenberghe's topic in AMPLIFi
This forum is for people who have an Amplifi amp so probably can't help. Maybe try the legacy amp section. -
Yes, I think so. It also has that tube 'feel' when you have clean until to dig in. I find that hard to get with POD alone.
