Yes, I think so. It also has that tube 'feel' when you have clean until to dig in. I find that hard to get with POD alone..

When mine played up I found inside that the ribbon (computer) cable had come loose. I pushed the blue connectors back together and it worked fine. Only open it up if it's out of warranty though!

Really like mine but it comes into its own with a pod. You get 4 'voices' so really easy to switch from fender clean to vox to Marshall to Bognor uber. I would say though that without extra speakers you are not getting a monster metal sound from 1x12. Cleans are sparkly though!

Trying new stuff with my Dream Rig, but...
Matt_Brown replied to Tboneous's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
My 'go to' amp when I go to FRFR is the Blackface Pete. It has an amazing 'edge of breakup' sound and the feel of a real amp. No 'pre' for that one though so haven't managed to get a great sound though the DT yet. -
The other option is to run two signal paths. I have full amps right and pre's left then route left to DT amp and right to pa. 1/4 out to pa and LG link to DT. You could run a simulated sound to the pa and a 'no amp' (if you like) signal to the Vox. Takes a bit of tweaking though. We have a portable pa which was set up in my dining room for weeks while I tried to get the two sounds as I wanted (wife NOT happy!). If you are using fixed pa (I guess) you could set up near the board with you amp and play there. Very DSP heavy though so I had to cut effects down to a minimum (per patch). Have Fun!

You are always going to get a different sound from an amp vs a pa. The closest amp will be getting a DT.
-
I think you will be surprised how versatile it is jonboy! Once you get over the mare most people have over just how many options you have! There aren't many of us here on this side of the pond so if you are anywhere near south east London let me know and we can compare notes!

Current JTV-59 build quality ?
Matt_Brown replied to mykejb's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I've had one since 2013 that I bought as 'B stock' and I use it all the time and its great! -
If you use the fx loop of the spider you will effectively be using it as if it's an FRFR speaker - just amplifying the POD (OK, a bit obvious I know!). If you connect to a DT over L6 Link you have control over the topography of the amp so get actual 'emulation' of the various amps on offer...
-
I have a set list with all my patches 'pre' to use with my DT then one with full versions in case of such a problem.
-
I've had the same issue with the 1/4 out direct to PA as well as the L6 to my DT (on, I use and xlr L6 link too but I always use the same one and it's high quality). I'm starting to think the POD is the problem. I mostly go direct to PA now and it's a lottery as to what volume I'm going to get and what it's going to sound like. And I never change anything except the master volume. This makes me think that the AES cable is not the answer. Any other thoughts?

I guess you tried the ground switch on the top of the 500x?

Courtesy has no price! Hope he doesn't buy an HD!

Just up to you. Some people prefer the sound of full models over pre's. Just use your ears and enjoy! Remember that you can assign various perimeters such as drive on your amp to the tone knob on your guitar. Have fun...

Blown away basically! While I'd tried a 75 & 150 I'd not delved into the app so to see all the banks of sounds etc. was amazing. Ok, it's not ear bleedingly loud but it's only just bigger than an iPad! Easily loud enough to jam with. Very pleased with the purchase!

Just picked one up from Andertons in Guildford! Can't wait to get it home!
-
It's not that Helix doesn't work it just won't change the topography on the DT over L6. Admittedly fairly key though if mid-song you want to go from mega gain to fender clean.. One thing I forgot to say about acoustics is that you can send acoustic tones from the FX send to the pa as well as to the DT to get a full range sound. I even made a patch to do this so look for Acoustic DT in Customtone.
-
Rad did a great patch for acoustic tone from a DT25 that you can get in custometone. L6 link is great and the tones I can great are just amazing. DT all the way...

In case anyone is interested UK shops now seem to have these in stock to sell. I can't find a shop that has one I can try but three assure me their warehouse can send me one by tomorrow!
-
Well, Easters here and still no sign! I'll end up spending the cash on summint else like the Blackstar BEAM soon! Anyone from L6 here who can say when we will get them in the UK.
-
Thanks for that and I'll try those things. My 500x is about 3 yrs old too. Sucks if that is the life expectancy!
-
Thanks! I did think that but it doesn't seem to need recalibrating. Maybe I'll try that anyway.

I've noticed on a couple of occasions recently that my POD randomly drops in general volume. This is not limited to one patch or type of sound. Yesterday I started with the volume at '1:00' and after about an hour of use I had to increase it to 4:00 - almost max - to get the same volume. I've tried restarting the POD and can only think it's something to do with it getting warm! At first I thought it as just my ears but the peeps I was playing with mentioned this too! Any ideas what can be happening? And what I can do to fix it!!

Most common uses of Workbench
Matt_Brown replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
When I 1st got my JTV I had a play with some weird body/pickup combinations but to be honest I can't improve on the sounds of the factory guitars. I've mostly used it to add a couple of virtual capos on the actual guitar rather than do that per patch in Edit. Much more useful in worship stuff than some of the tunings that are loaded... -
I have them organised by guitar and what I'm playing through. I have a JTV list, a Strat list and then a DT list and a no amp list for when I'm plugging straight into a PA.
