  1. Hello! Yes, very quiet. You should see the Dream Rig section though. Helix has all but killed that idea off!
  2. I'd consider an AMPLIFi 30. I use mine as a Bluetooth player as well as an amp. It won't 'talk' to the POD - but neither will the beam - but crafting tones on the AMPLIFi (easy with the app) has helped me with ideas for how to build tones for the POD.
  3. As with Rads I must say I've not had the same sort of problems. I've managed to get such good sounds direct from the pod that I've stopped taking the DT to gigs and just take JTV, pod and a small rucksack. My back is loving it! I did get the opportunity to A/B a 500x and Helix at Yamaha in London and although I didn't have 'my' patches they were happy for me to save settings on both and after 30 mins or so I am now saving up for a Helix!! I know the pod can be daunting with so many settings but if you use your ears and don't think too much about particular amps that might help. One of my fav driven patches I use a lot has a gibtone amp dualed with a tweed with the 6 ins speaker. I doubt this would sound good if you actually put the amps side by side but through the pod it sounds very 'Marshally' to me.
  4. If it's any use I've used both a high quality xlr cable and then updated to (a probably not so high quality as it wasn't a lot more expensive) AES cable and I can't hear any decernable difference (with my old gig raddled ears!). But I've always been able to get what I think are amazing tones with my 500X and DT25. I would add that as I have a JTV I haven't spent much time going into the DT without the pod but when I have I haven't noticed a difference.
  5. I bought a 'B stock' one from Andertons three years ago and it's a great guitar. A couple of slight indentations along the neck - that look a bit like extra fret dots bright light, but you can't really see them otherwise. I wouldn't be without it...
  6. I would say that you need to try NOT to become reliant on setting up and changing patches on a PC. I've been stuck at rehearsal not knowing how to edit a patch so I took a bit of time to learn to do everything I need on the pod. As Silverhead says though you can't update firmware or backup patches. I would add that you can't Install any additional packs you buy or use any patches from customtone either. Overall though I would say you can get a lot of of a pod without using a PC.
  7. What message and how are you connecting the JTV. Have re remembered to put a 1/4 jack in as well as the Ethernet to power the guitar?
  8. No, don't put the EQ between the amp and cab. You risk damaging both...
  9. You risk trashing the amp and the pod. They are not designed to work together like that. The amp should only be connected to the cab. Nothing in between. Google impedance... If the amp has an fx loop use that (check the threads on 4 cable method) or go from the pod too the in on the amp.
  10. I've thought about doing a uke tuning but never got round to it so if anyone can help here...
  11. Yes, what they said ^. The light by the pedal will turn from green to red (or vice versa) when you manage to activate the switch. Of course you need to have a wah assigned to exp1 or 2.
  12. I used a POD with a Roland KC for years and it worked to my ears. I treated myself to a DT25 for a 'significant birthday' and was blown away by the full sound. It makes the sound I got from the keys amp sound very thin. That said, when I gig now I go strate to the PA (Altos) and monitor with in ears....
  13. A Variax can sound a lot like a Banjo! For that reason I haven't really tried to make the POD make that sound. If you are playing a wide variety of music (which I guess you are, playing in shows) you might want to try out a JTV. As for the POD, a clean tone with the trebles boosted might start sounding 'banjoy' ?
  14. I would echo 'get to know how to change peramaters on the POD'. To get used to the process I'd set your 1st patches up as your previous rig. Put your distortion, chorus, tremolo & wah in the same order and stick to amps you know. That way you should get the idea of how the blasted thing works (;-)) pretty quickly. Then you can start adding bits. Remember you can download patches from Customtone - but expect to have to tweak them as they were prolly set up by people with different gear to you. Have fun!
  15. Sorry hear of your problems. I've not encountered that myself. As others here I've owned Line 6 gear for years and had no major problems. My 500x went a bit awry out of warranty but I opened it up and found a loose connector. The very nature of this being a 'support forum' - and it will be the same with any product reviewed on the net - it attracts mostly people with problems. The vast majority of people will have no need of it so we won't ever know hat they are having faultless fun with their product. How do we know that 'Full Compass' are not supplying an inferior product for the less money? Is that where Line 6 get their parts? Line 6 is after all a business and needs to make a profit. Ok, not a Ferrari driving profit on things that have gone wrong! I hope you can get your issues sorted soon!
  16. I guess my point didn't come across very well. Line 6 has always been at the forefront of tech - early mobiles here in the U.K. could only be used in very limited areas until they 'caught on'. And they were the size of two house bricks! I'm not saying we should accept that the tech fails though and I'm sorry you have had these issues. I agree Line 6 should sort it. But since I've owned PODs & variaxes most major companies have started offering modelling amps and I am sure we will see modelling guitars from major companies soon. Many now offer piezo equipped guitars so you can switch to 'acoustic'. Ok, a variax doesn't sound a lot like a vintage Les Paul and maybe isn't as fun to play but if you play in a gigging band that plays a wide variety of genres I don't think you can beat it. Yes, you do have to spend a bit of time tweaking this and that but very believable sounds are possible. No, you are never going to fool the beard strokers but I'm usually playing for the audience that are digging the music, not the 2 people at the back discussing whether I used the red or the blue comp on a particular sound. I guess you tried talking to Line 6 about sorting your issues?
  17. That's a point of view. But I guess you must be lonely, not having a mobile phone, TV, car etc.....
  18. Yes, I prefer to use the Edit Programme but I got caught - luckily at a rehearsal, not a gig - when I needed make some changes and I found that I couldn't! Since then I've used the interface on the POD so I can fix things. OK, i use the interface for patch building but it's good to be able to do it on the pod too!
  19. Delay is good. Experiment with using dual amps too. Either the same amp model with slightly different settings or even the same settings but different cab micing, as well as different amps, can really thicken your sound.
  20. Ive used mine for band practice (without drums) and really love the sounds. I took mine on holiday and as well as practicing guitar I showed films on a laptop with a projector and sheet as a screen. The 30 was the 'sound system' for that and I was amazed how well it handled e.g explosions. It was like being at the cinema!
  21. I use Rocksmith sometimes to practice and come out of the 1/4 socket on the 59. I mostly use the mags to save bothering with the battery and if you arnt to worried about tone/model you can always use mags when connecting to a computer. Don't want to spend your money for you but I recently invested in an Amplifi 30 for practice and it is amazing! You still have to use battery/mags through 1/4 but the sound you can get plus being able to play along to any track at any volume as made me get the guitar out more often than usual! And it doesn't take up much more space than a tablet and you can use it as a hi-fi speaker too!
  22. This is a bit old now but might be worth contacting: http://line6.com/support/topic/958-more-more-added-new-colors-cool-vdi-cable/
  23. Yes, the 'lad' who I was talking to said something along the lines of a JTV is basically a computer and dosen't appeal to guitar players. That said, he didn't know about switching pickup selectors on a 59 - he said he thought it only had three positions - so could be a case of he didnt know what he was talking about...
  24. I've just been trying out a Helix at Yamaha London - the 'main' Line 6 dealer for the UK - and when I questioned why they only had one 59 for me to try it on (the pickup selector push on the tunings pot was broken which I pointed out) I was told that they aren't stocking them as the James Tyler connection has finished and a new product will be announced shortly. Ho hum...
  25. Anyone know if it's OK to use a bass guitar (for practice) through an Amplifi 30. I guess the same principles apply (FRFR) but I wouldn't want to break my baby because I'm too lazy to get off my sofa to go where the big amps are kept!
