If the're in a Loop you'll hear them. If they come after the HXS you won't hear them. If you don't want to use a Loop, but still want to hear the effects that come after the HXS, get a small mixer, like a Behringer XENYX502 (around $50). Run the HXS into the mixer and use the mixer for your headphones.

All of the above. AND, to further complicate your decision making process, I have both the PC112+ AND the FRFR112. While I prefer the PC112+ over the FRFR112, the best sound I get is using them together! If you run the XLR from the PC112+ to the FRFR112 (or likely any other PA type speaker) you get a good approximation of what the audience hears. That said, the FRFR112 is not a bad choice on it's own, but if you can afford the PC112+, go for it!

You have a different model than the manual I found, so I'd need to find the manual for your exact model to be sure, but if everything else is the same, it should work. The DIN connector is just the way they wired it for their footswitch. The 1/4" jacks provided on the model I looked at are simply an alternative for those who don't want to use their pedal. If VDL can provide you an adapter cable, everything should work fine. The instructions related to the HXFX should still apply.

I almost forgot - in Global Settings>MIDI/TapTempo - set "MIDI PC TX" to OFF. That prevents HXFX from sending it's default PC# when loading presets. VERY IMPORTANT!

DISCLAIMER - I don't own either device, VDL or Laney. The following is entirely my take after reading the manuals. First, the 5 pin DIN on the Laney is NOT MIDI. No need for the second MIDI cable. Start by checking the MIDI Channels. By default, the HXFX is on Channel 1 (Global Settings>MIDI/Tap Tempo). The same should be true of the VDL. If not, follow the instructions in the manual to make it so. Get two Insert Cables - 1/4" Male TRS to dual 1/4" Male TS. Plug Insert Cable 1 TRS end into the CHANNEL Jack on the back of the Laney. Plug the two TS plugs into the VLC jacks 1 and 2. Plug Insert Cable 2 TRS end into the Boost/Reverb jack on the Laney. Plug the two TS plugs into the VLC 3 and 4 jacks. Set the Front Panel switches on the Laney as below (from the manual: In order to use any footswitches, set Pre-Boost and Clean switches to ON, and Channel to Lead. You would use CC#s to control each VLC Output separately. You might want to assign two footswitches to control Boost and Reverb, using CC#s 82 and 83 (VLC defaults) (see below). You would use PC#s to control groups of VLC Outputs. You might want to use two PC#s to control the Channel switch, PC#1 (or whatever # you want to use) would have VLC Out 1 ON and 2 OFF, PC#2 would have VLC Out 1 OFF and 2 ON (READ THE VLC MANUAL). This might not matter if the Laney has internal Logic that won't allow both to be ON at once, but the minimalist Laney manual is not clear on that point. In Command Center, Instant Commands (ICs) execute instantly and consecutively (1-6) on Preset Load and Snapshot Change. Stomp Buttons work only when pressed, after the Preset is loaded. So, use ICs to set the Channel (IC1), Reverb (IC2) and Boost (IC3) on Preset Load. When you change Snapshots, these settings will remain the same until you change them. For instance, if the preset loads with the Clean Channel ON in Snapshot 1 (the one that was active when you last saved the Preset) using PC#1, and you want to switch to the Lead Channel on Snapshot 2, Save Snapshot 2 with the IC1 (Channel) set to PC#2. If you change back to Snapshot 1, the Clean Channel will again be active. As to CC VALUES, the VLC manual is not clear on whether the VLC responds to MIDI Standard ON (000) and OFF (127) values. I would avoid using CCs. Instead, set up PCs like this (remember, you can use any PC#s you want): PC#3 = Boost and Reverb OFF PC#4 = Boost OFF Reverb ON PC#5 = Boost ON Reverb OFF PC#6 = Boost as Reverb ON Or any logical combination that makes sense to you. Keep in mind that I don't know which functions are controlled by the Tip and Ring of the TRS jacks plugged into the Laney footswitch jacks. Maybe tip is Boost, maybe it's reverb. Experiment. Have fun! I know, sounds confusing. Welcome to the Wonderful World of MIDI! You probably have questions. Feel free to ask for clarification. The following translation is courtesy (?) of Google Translate. I take no responsibility! S'amuser! Je sais, cela semble déroutant. Bienvenue dans le monde merveilleux du MIDI! Vous avez probablement des questions. N'hésitez pas à demander des éclaircissements. La traduction suivante est une gracieuseté (?) De Google Translate. Je ne prends aucune responsabilité!

Thoughts over my first cup of coffee on a Saturday morning: Once upon a time, there was a guitar and an amp. Much great music was made. The learning curve was minimal. Then there were effects placed between the guitar and the amp. Much great music was made. The learning curve was steeper. More experimentation and strategic creativity was required. Then someone figured out that certain (mostly time-based) effects sounded better between the preamp and poweramp. Much great music was made. The learning curve got steeper. Check out the "Rig Rundowns" on YouTube. Some people use FX Loops, some don't. Much great music is made. The choice is up to you. In the beginning there was a guitar and an amp. Much great music was made.

You should probably take the time to read the Helix manual, and maybe Google "basic MIDI". Here's the short course: MIDI is a way to send specific messages to make changes to HW or SW. There are 16 MIDI "Channels", meaning that up to 16 devices can be addressed simultaneously. A Device or SW will only respond to messages sent on it's assigned channel. PC is Program Change. There's 128 possibilities, either 000-127 or 001-128. Different mfrs implement it differently. A Program change causes a loaded program or preset or patch within a VST, modeler or synth to change to a different one. CC is Continuous Controller. There's 128 possibilities, always 000-127. A CC# is usually accompanied by a VALUE, again, from 000-127. A CC message causes a specific parameter within a program/preset/patch to change. For instance, the MIDI standard controller for Volume is CC#7 (when a device or SW uses MIDI standard CCs - the Powercab 112+ Volume responds to this CC#). So, sending CC#7 with a Value of 000 is Volume OFF, 127 is Max Volume. The MIDI standard Value (using any CC#) for Toggling a parameter ON/OFF is 000 (ON) and 127 (OFF). Helix works like that. The Amplitube SW modeler uses the opposite Values by default. To change a Setlist - simply the next set of 128 preset, got nothing to do with sets unless you choose to use them like that - you first send CC#32 with a Value between 0-7 to denote which Setlist - 1 thru 8 - you want to call. Following that you send (using a controller that can send consecutive messages in a single stream) the PC# of the preset you want to call. The MIDI Mouse sends a PC#, say, 000. When you press the UP button it increments the PC# IN IT'S OWN MEMORY, and sends that. When you press the DOWN button it decrements that PC# and sends it. It does a couple of minor tricks to help you make larger leaps, but it's really a very basic device. Other devices can do LOTS more, and cost more, too. What level of device you need depends on what you want to do, and how much you're willing to spend to do it. Oh, yeah, and how much time you're willing to put into learning how. Lastly, a device or SW can only do what the designers design it to do in response to MIDI. The Helix is not designed to change banks within Setlists in response to MIDI commands, so you can't do it. So, what ELSE would you like to do, and how much money and time are you willing to put into making it happen? STARTING with reading the Helix manual and all the feature notes accompanying the many updates that have occurred since the manual was written. It won't be updated again until v3.0 comes out. You don't NEED to do this to make beautiful music with Helix, but if you want to to get fancy with MIDI, get out your reading glasses!
-
Well, since there's no MIDI commands to change "banks" within Setlists, you can't do what you want. Is there something else you'd like to do? You said someone in another thread told you to get a MIDI Mouse. I'm curious as to the context. Can you provide a link to that thread?
-
You don't. The MIDI Mouse only sends Program Change (PC) messages. If you mean changing banks the way the Up/Down arrows do, there's no command for that. To change SETLISTs you need to be able to send Continuous Controller (CC) messages. The CC tells the Helix what SETLIST to go to, and then the PC selects the preset in that SETLIST. Sorry, the MIDI Mouse is the wrong tool for the job.

Helix reverbs are just fine. Try actually spending time with the new ones. A Klon is to a reverb as an amoeba is to a sperm whale. It's all about the maths, and how much DSP you want to commit to that GREAT reverb that most other people will think sux because it doesn't sound like the one that THEY think sounds best. Welcome to virtual reality!

Further to my previous reply: I assumed that you were using a PC112+. If you're using regular PC112, then your only options for 3) are to use 1/4" outs from the Helix to PCs (balanced [TRS] cables if over 20 feet). Then for mixer send you can use either the XLR outs from Helix (if using IRs on Helix), or from PC (if using speaker mode). Since there's no MIDI you can't use the second exp pedal method to control the PC volume, but manually controlling it from the PC itself will still allow you to control your stage level separate from the mixer send level when using the XLR outs from the PCs. OR When using the XLR outs on Helix for mixer send, in GLOBAL SETTINGS>INS/OUTS set the "VOLUME KNOB CONTROLS" setting to 1/4". That allows UNITY from XLR and the BIG KNOB controls the 1/4" outs.

You can assign the snapshots to stomp mode buttons. In Command Center. Select the button, select Snapshots, select the Snapshot #. You can now change snapshots from Stomp mode.

Buongiorno! 1) Need more info. Attach a copy of the preset so we can look at it. Setting the Exp Pedals to GLOBAL (vs per preset) in Global Settings should keep the pedal setting across presets. 2) No. 3) Use AES/EBU cables to connect Helix to PC #1 (cable 1) and the two PCs (cable 2). -Take L/Mono Out from Helix OR XLR Out from PC to mixer (see below) for MONO, OR -Take both XLR Outs to two channels of the mixer for STEREO, OR -If you're using speaker mode or User IR mode (IRs on the PCs) on the PCs with STEREO presets, take the XLR Outs from both PCs to the mixer. -If You're using MONO presets, then a single XLR out from either PC should do the job. One advantage of taking the XLR from the PC vs from the Helix is that you can control the PC level separate from the Mixer send level (for stage level vs mixer send level), which is always UNITY (equal to the level at the Helix Output/PC Input). If you attach a second exp pedal to Helix and set it to send MIDI CC#7, then attach a MIDI cable to the PC (in addition to the AES/EBU Cable), then the second exp pedal will control the PC volume, and be your Volume pedal across all presets without affecting the mixer send level. No need for a Volume block in the signal chain unless it's important to gain staging in the signal chain. Hope all of that is clear. If not, feel free to ask for clarification.

Yes, and quite commonly done. I have several presets wherein I use that method to fake both channels of an amp, since Helix models the channels separately. If you have the DSP, you can even fake a 3 channel amp, though you'll usually need to put one of the amps on processor 1 and the others on processor 2, or vice versa. Also keep in mind that using snapshots, you can change all of a single amp's settings with a single switch, so you needn't use multiple amps at all.

Indeed. I don't use the looper either, so I haven't been following the issue. Maybe the OP (Elephantstomp) would like to take up the torch with support?

If you have the amp with one 1/4" and an old school serial port connector, The HXFX ain't gonna do it. These guys could probably build you an adapter cable : https://btpa.com/ That would work with this: http://www.voodoolab.com/controlswitcher.htm That would let you use MIDI to do the job. However, IMO, you'd be better off finding the stock pedal for that amp.
-
Right click on each of the Pan parameters - A then B - and assign them to "Snapshots". Switch to whichever snapshot you want to use for the action, center both, save preset, Done! You probably want to switch back to the default snapshot (the one you want to load when you load the preset) and save the preset again.
-
Save the preset with the volume pedal fully ON.

It sounds like you want to use one pedal to alternately control two functions such as Volume and WAH. Basically, doing what the Floor and LT do with their built-in exp pedals. The HXS is designed to do this, and this is the only way I know of to accomplish it: https://missionengineering.com/shop-2/products/expression/specific-use-exp/sp1-l6h/ It works because it was designed for the job. Any other workaround ultimately gets down to pressing a switch and then moving your foot to operate the pedal. Clunky and un-natural. No matter how you work it, you give up one of your 6 blocks to the WAH, and a second block if you use a Volume block. The most efficient way to do it (IMO) is to use a traditional WAH before the HXS (what I do). You can then add an exp pedal attached to the HXS for Volume, etc, assigned to the Output Block Level for Volume or to whatever parameter you want to control in a given preset. Alternately, you could get a dual purpose WAH/exp pedal to put before the HXS, but the cheapest one I know of is the HOTONE (ewwww) for $110 vs $150 for the Mission. Other, better quality combo pedals cost as much as or more than the Mission.
-
That pedal looks like the ultimate MIDI controller. I wouldn't trust the Bluetooth function on stage, but the USB Host feature and everything else looks great. The price is also very reasonable.
-
If I understand the MIDI on the ES-8, you can plug an exp pedal into it and assign it to send a CC out the MIDI OUT port. If you connect that to the Stomp MIDI IN, you can then assign that CC to control most any parameter. You don't lose the ability to toggle anything. You can then attach a 2 button switch to the Stomp to emulate FS4 and FS5 and use them to toggle whatever. Or am I misunderstanding what you're after (or how the ES-8 works)?
-
Try going to Global Settings>Exp Pedal and setting the one you're using to GLOBAL. I don't have any external Exp Pedals to test with, but it's worth a shot!
