IDK about the ToneX1 (the small pedal). Based on what I've read I wouldn't get one, which is why I said not to. What ANY profiler (vs modeler) sounds like is all about the actual profiles/captures. Hardly anybody likes the stock ToneX captures. Amalgam makes REALLY good captures, and those are the ones I use. Nothing "thin" about them. Additional considerations are that the 3 button configuration allows for the standard Clean/Crunch/Lead setup on each of the 50 banks. Amps can be loaded via MIDI from the Stomp, and the entire bank in which that capture lives is then available via FS on the TX. The new FX are quite good, sparing DSP on the Stomp, and can be toggled and parameters such as delay time can be set via MIDI from the Stomp. EQ is straight up via knobs and quite effective. If you're not afraid to RTM and do some menu diving, ANYTHING can be adjusted with the knobs. The new Editor is EXCELLENT, allowing you to edit the captures on the unit without loading the annoying original SW. While the editor works for the TX1 (I've read), most of what I've just described (including MIDI) is NOT available on the TX1. Get one from a shop (Thomann?) with a proper returns policy and DL some of the sample Amalgam captures from Tone.Net. He posts samples for all of his excellent amp packs. You might be pleasantly surprised! Also keep in mind (IDK what your experience level is) that your playback system ultimately determines the quality of what you hear. Apart from multiple headphones (which I hate to use, but, apartment, neighbors :-P) I have 6"Rokit studio monitors with a 10" sub, A Catalyst100, a Powercab212+ and a HR FRFR112. They all sound great, but different.

1 - Set the Stomp Send/Return to INST. Set the HXFX INPUT to INST. FX loops add a SMALL amount of noise to the signal. There's no advantage in this scenario to using the HXFX FX Loop, so don't. Take the Stomp SEND to the HXFX INPUT. 2- Set the HXFX Output to INST and take it into the Stomp RETURN. 3- I'm not clear on your MIDI requirements. Are you using a SETLIST app to send MIDI to the Stomp for song changes? Or a separate MIDI controller? IF YES THEN on the Stomp, set Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo>MIDI THRU = OFF; MIDI PC Tx = ON (or OFF if using CommandCenter, see below); MIDI PC Rx = MIDI (if using a controller) or USB (if using a setlist app from a computer) or MIDI+USB if you want to cover all the bases; Snapshot CC SEND = OFF On the HXFX, set MIDI PC Rx = MIDI; MIDI THRU and MIDI PC Tx = OFF. You only need to connect the Stomp MIDI Out to the HXFX MIDI IN. There's no purpose for the HXFX MIDI Out>Stomp MIDI IN. Above I mentioned settings for the Stomp MIDI PC Tx. When set ON this automatically sends the default PC#. IOW - the default PC# for Stomp Preset 01A is 0. When you load 01A the Stomp sends PC#000. This means that the HXFX preset will always correspond to the Stomp preset. If you set MIDI PC Tx = OFF you can use CommandCenter Instant Commands to link ANY Stomp Preset to ANY HXFX preset, even changing the HXFX preset at will within a Stomp preset using Snapshots. IOW - a loaded Stomp preset can have multiple HXFX configurations without changing Stomp presets. Likewise, you can use Instant Commands (IC) to send Snapshot messages to the HXFX. A Stomp preset's Snapshots can also load an HXFX preset with a Snapshot other than its default SAVED Snapshot. IOW - a Stomp Snapshot can load any HXFX preset with any of that preset's Snapshots. To create a CLEAN BOOST without using a GAIN BLOCK, assign the Output Block Level to a FS and set the MIN/MAX levels appropriately. For example, MIN=0db; MAX = 4db. That gives you the default unity gain (0db) at MIN and a 4db BOOST at MAX. I've attached an example preset that demonstrates some of these techniques. FS1 switches Snapshots. SS1 and SS2 send MIDI to the HXFX on the BASE MIDI CHANNEL which is, by default CH1. Check both devices to confirm that they are set to BASE in Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo. Note the use of WAIT times when loading the HXFX Snapshot using ICs. This prevents the Snapshot loading before the preset has time to load, a random quirk of sending multiple simultaneous MIDI messages. Note also that when a Stomp Mode FS is used to call different Snapshots, the FS needs to be programmed in EACH Snapshot. I recommend that you DL a MIDI MONITOR so that you can keep track of what the Stomp is ACTUALLY sending vs what you HOPE it's sending! I recommend MIDIOX, the gold standard of MIDI utilities It's FREE! Unless, of course, you're using a MAC, in which case you'll need to research the MAC equivalent. Good Luck! In MIDIOX be sure to deselect both options under OPTIONS>DATA DISPLAY so that you can see the values in decimal rather than the default hex. If this sounds complicated, you're right, it is. That's one reason to get a LT/FLOOR/RACK. Much easier to configure, not to mention less latency. While it limits you in some ways, all of this stuff can still be done. More questions? Feel free to ask. I get off on this MIDI stuff - I know, I'm weird like that! ridgwayt-1.hlx

ToneX. Get the original big pedal, not the TonexOne.

I use a single FX Loop Block set to INST for the ToneX and another set to INST for the amp. When one is active the other isn't. IOW - dual 4cm. In the attached example Cat-TX 1 I have the FX Loops in an A/B Split. The Split is controlled by a FS. In Cat-TX 2 I've used the Split to run FX in parallel and the FX Loops are side by side toggled by a FS. In both configurations I'm hearing some hiss in the TX Loop, depending upon the TX preset. There's no hiss from the Catalyst loop, even on the hi-gain presets, so I think that's in the TX presets. I tested this by using separate SEND/RETURN Blocks (JS method) with the TX and it sounded the same. Cat-TX1.hlx Cat-TX2.hlx

Here's where a screenshot of that MIDI Log would be helpful. It would also help to know what platform SetListMaker is running on. I should also point out that SetListMaker is now abandonware, having been replaced by BandHelper.

Yes, works fine with HXS, but I couldn't figure out how to connect my Mosky Dual Switch (probably made in the same factory as the Ampero), so if you can recall how you made that work we would both be most appreciative!

I don't think you can do this on Helix. HXS yes, Helix no.

Hmmm... I interpret that response to mean that the LFS2, if the Bank Switch is ON (LED lit) on shutdown, it will switch Banks when rebooted. That implies (to me) that if the switch is OFF (LED NOT lit) that it WOULD NOT switch Banks on reboot. But it switches Banks regardless of the ON/OFF status on shutdown. Did I mention that I use MIDI for Bank/Channel switching? And all other MIDI controllable functions. Tuner does not cause Bank change when using MIDI without the FS connected. Have you heard back from support?

This appears to be due to a bug in the Helix MIDI implementation. Using a MIDI Controller, I sent both FS (CC#51) and MIDI messages (using CC#4) on separate switches. Despite what the manual says - that the MIDI CCs for the FS will TOGGLE the FS using VALUE 0 (OFF) and 127 (ON), the FS toggles REGARDLESS of the VALUE. When I switched from "FS BYPASS" with CC#51 to "MIDI BYPASS" with CC#4 it worked as expected using VALUES of 0/127. When I created a MIDI track in Reaper and configured it to send the MIDI ON (127) VALUE, it behaved like the FS command, toggling regardless of VALUE. Since Reaper doesn't allow (AFAICT) for both ON and OFF values in the MIDI Event Editor, that would seem to indicate that Reaper sends alternating ON/OFF messages by default (verified with a MIDI MONITOR). Which makes no sense to me, but then, I don't usually do this sort of thing - controlling Helix with MIDI Tracks. In your case, I would switch the FX Loop Blocks to MIDI BYPASS (change SetListMaker accordingly) and if the problem persists get a MIDI Monitor to see what, EXACTLY, is being sent by SetListMaker. I had a VERY QUICK look at the SetListMaker manual and it appears that, like Reaper, it only allows for setting 1 VALUE for CCs. It MAY be behaving like Reaper and Automatically sending alternating ON/OFF Values.

I'm not sure why JS does it that way, but it is completely unnecessary. Input and Output are BOTH Instrument Level. The following is IK Support's reply when I questioned them on this regarding the original ToneX pedal but also applies to the TX1. Of course, you can also ask them to confirm if you want. I use my ToneX in a Helix Loop at INSTRUMENT level and it sounds fine. _________________________________________________________________ Thanks for your patience while we got back to you. TONEX Pedal has an instrument level output with lots of headroom. If it's in bypass state and the MAIN OUT option in the global menu is set to 0dB, what comes in goes out just like in a Boss or any other buffered stompbox when bypassed. Maximum output is +8 dBu when set like this. Raising the MAIN OUT to +3dB, brings it close to +12dBu. We hope this response has sufficiently answered your questions. If you still have any question, interests, or concerns, please reply to this email and an agent will get back to you as soon as possible. Please make sure to reply to this email and do not open another support ticket. Jason W - Technical Support Supervisor IK Multimedia. Musicians First.

USB to DAW should be the same Helix vs HXS. What USB channels are you using? Here's a link to a good articla on DAW recording levels: https://mojosarmy.medium.com/recording-and-mixing-levels-demystified-151ec65705fa

Instead of using the MAIN Outs for both, pull down the MIX Block to create a separate path. Using a shielded TS cable (guitar type cable), take the SEND to the board. In Global Settings>Ins/Outs set SEND/RETURN L to LINE. This allows you separate LEVEL controls at the CAB (+6db) and the SEND (+20db). Example preset attached. Since the SEND is UNBALANCED, you'll likely want to use a DI box if the board is more than 20' away to minimize noise. This one is $15. I have two and they work fine: https://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PDC21-Pyle-Pro-Black/dp/B0027V760M/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3JXPKSJV21KGZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.oosI4dUQ46miDAVf26FUFN36I7jLPYxpQx-RcddKesrEi2yrZS6qyEZp3c-o1478TyC1ZzRAuhrspUicTgyOca_h6Rm6KmWrqbTo3z-Cw6W6vVcY0KbqKpmhqqQ5pJOPTNEpXZG16FbZn5knusC9uWqGfNgAOZedqHdst41oI2tshF0jcCoAAZJmYJNZtYADvkKUUyiSoIQfnQXRqRpZhKzkQYP_ROpX0KLznhFD3HWnzvrM9cf7N8__tj-TV6qbYhTikysEMoPrQgjzZfI6qHmneTnajzU4UvtLYekZcmCmxO1vuUm5VNGHOQWQ51Wq-4K6RWXWSWcqR-v0C_JLL2x_U119gSMkuugo2zDwHqs.xfZ4uwuuEnjgGF07R6xLc2TmqfKy1CrDDI-Lbtn4f0U&dib_tag=se&keywords=di+box&qid=1742407434&s=musical-instruments&sprefix=di+box%2Cmi%2C266&sr=1-2 ScottW.hlx

Press and Hold the MANUAL button. The SELECTOR DIAL LED will DIM. Turn the SELECTOR (amp) dial to the desired BANK. Release the MANUAL button. The SELECTOR DIAL LED will be BRIGHT. Press and Hold the desired CHANNEL button to SAVE. The Button LEDs will flash. Press and Release a CHANNEL (A or B) button to exit Manual Mode and enter that preset (A or B).

AFAICT, no. The 3 and 4 Note Oscillators are intended to be used as Drones. You turn them on/off with the BYPASS function, but the note selection is constant. You can change the notes by assigning them to footswitches (2 per FS), or, to use them in a chord progression, by assigning the notes to snapshots, in which case you're limited to 3 chord progressions. The 3 OSC Synth (STEREO ONLY) will track your single note guitar playing, poorly. In neither of the above would your Taurus be of any use. It might be possible to do using a MIDI translation device such as a BOME BOX. However, this is a rather expensive solution for the limited functionality which it would provide, given that you would be converting NOTES to CC#s to correspond with the HXS footswitches (5 max, two configured globally) or Snapshots (3). The BOME BOX functions are also available in SW but, at the point where you're adding a computer into the mix you might as well just use a proper Soft Synth.

If your GX has an Instrument Level Out, connect it to the Cat's RETURN. A quick look at the manual, it appears that the FX Loop SEND on the GX is Instrument Level. If you want to use the Cat's POST FX in addition to the GX FX, place the FX Loop Switch in the FX Loop position. If not, put that switch in the Power Amp In position. Note that this attenuates the signal (vs the FX Loop position) by (IIRC) 6db. You may want to disable the CAB SIM on the GX but try it both ways and use the one that sounds best TO YOU.

Without knowing details of your specific HW and OS, no one can even begin to address this beyond saying whether or not they have experienced the problem with THEIR specific HW and OS. I run Reaper and Ableton on a Win10 i7 (7th gen) laptop with 16gb and SSD using a Scarlett 18i20 (2nd gen) AI and at 64spls get 7.6ms RT glitch-free latency in small projects (typically 8 audio tracks). I have not experienced the problems you described.

HX Effects - how to use with a valve amp and external valve pre-amp
rd2rk replied to Adam_Dreyer's topic in Helix
Using both FX Loops, put the IR-D in one and the Pink Taco in the other. Create an A/B Split with one FX Loop in each path. Assign a FS or Snapshot to control the Split. Your LEFT/MONO out goes to the PT's RETURN. You can set it up for either/or, AND/OR combine the two using the ROUT TO parameter (Knob 1) and use Snapshots to control the specifics. See page 38 of the manual. -
I have the original HR FRFR112. My bass is passive, and the default settings on any of the AMP/CAB models are just fine, requiring just a bit of compression to accommodate my heavy-handed style of playing. Attach an example of a preset that causes the "overcooked" sound that you're hearing.

AFAIK, DI boxes are designed to BLOCK phantom power from the board to the connected gear: https://gearspace.com/board/audio-student-engineering-production-question-zone/929317-di-measure-protection-phantom-power.html

There is no way to simply change Banks using MIDI, and the person who said his MC3 could do it - @WillemK - never came back to explain how, so I don't think he actually understood the problem. You can use a dual FS set to Preset Bank Up on one button and Channel A/B Select on the other for a double-tap workaround, but since there's no Preset Bank Down...

Global Settings>Footswitches>FS3=TAP/TUNER In CommandCenter set a FS to SNAPSHOT. The DEFAULT settings cycle 1-2-3-1-2-3. In CommandCenter set a FS to LOOPER.

How would it know that you don't want to go to Snapshot Mode? A Global Setting? Maybe you only want that SOMETIMES? A per preset setting? Per Snapshot? Thing is, if you hang around here (or any gear forum) long enough you realize that everybody has something they think it's crazy that the device they bought doesn't do by default. Nothing does everything that everybody wants it to do. That's life! Time to start saving for the gadget that does more of what you want (need?) it to do. FWIW - my Helix Floor does everything I want/need, and more. Just sayin'... sounds GREAT too!
