    Helix 2.9

Agreed. I interpreted his meaning as that psychotropic drugs broke down the barriers to perception created by our learning about what society accepts to be real and necessary for survival, allowing us the more pure (but not necessarily better) perceptions experienced by children. My personal experience with psychotropic drugs was that if I accepted the perceptions I experienced in altered states, it would seriously imperil my chances for survival in the "real world".

Been a long time since I read that, but IIRC, Huxley believed that we were born with our perceptions wide open, and that as we aged our perceptions were narrowed by what we were taught was real vs not real - thus for example the (supposed) ability of children to see "ghosts", having never been taught that they were not real, whereas adults might perceive ghosts, but subconsciously dismiss the perception as "not real". Or something like that. I read it a long time ago and, you know, psychotropic drugs......
  3. If the Ins/Outs on your external device are set to LINE, set the SEND/RETURN on HXS to LINE. No. The RETURNs are either returns or AUX (bypass processing).
  4. Set USB 1/2 Destination to 1/4". Set the output blocks to XLR.
  5. Headphones will monitor 1/4" OR XLR OR EVERYTHING. Maybe I don't get what you're trying to achieve?
  6. Global Settings>Ins/Outs>USB In 1/2 Destination. Page 52 of the manual. If you like to jam along with the iTunes or YouTube apps or your DAW, this setting determines from which outputs your computer or iPad device's primary stereo audio stream will be heard. USB In 1/2 bypasses all Helix LT processing; USB 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 can be selected as input blocks for processing DAW tracks or re-amping. Normally, you should choose "Multi," which sends USB In 1/2 directly to the 1/4", XLR, and Digital outputs. See "USB Audio". Headphones Monitor (same page): Determines which signal(s) are heard from the PHONES output. Normally you would set this to Multi (1/4"+XLR+Digital+USB 1/2), but there may be a situation where you only want to hear what's sent from the 1/4" or XLR outs, particularly if they are being fed different signals (or band members!)
  7. From the JP-2c manual: "If you were to tell the 16 year-old me that one day there would be a MESA/Boogie IIC+ with my name on it, I would have laughed in utter disbelief and dismissed you as a mean-spirited charlatan. But alas...here we are. The JP-2C has been born! When the reality of doing a signature amp came to be, immediately the emphasis was placed on this being a bonafide and authentic C+ reissue in every sense of the word, from the massive transformer to the circuit and everything in-between. Randy not only vowed to make good on that commitment, but pledged that in anyway we could, we’d even try to surpass the original. Now, this may be hard to swallow for anyone out there reading this who is a C+ purist and tone-junky, but...we have surpassed the Holy Grail!!" So, until L6 models a IIC+, there's no way to simply duplicate that tone. You'll need to play around with the various Mesa amps, EQs, IRs and Distortions until you get something that sounds good to you. It'll take as many blocks as it takes. Wondering why you can't duplicate the tones from a Helix model that doesn't exist seems rather pointless IMO.
  8. If you DON"T want a parameter change in a Snapshot to "follow" to a different Snapshot, then the Global Snapshot Edit setting should be DISCARD. If you want a Snapshot Edit to be permanently SAVED to that Snapshot, you need to assign that parameter to SNAPSHOTS. The parameter value will be white and in parenthesis. You then make the change and SAVE the Snapshot. If the Global Snapshot Edit setting is RECALL, once you've assigned a parameter to SNAPSHOTS you can set it for all your Snapshots, check your settings by switching Snapshots, then return to your default Snapshot (the one that loads when you load the preset) and SAVE.

  10. See the attached example preset. Note that at the merge point, Path A is PANNED full LEFT and Path B is PANNED full Right. Use the appropriate L/R Outputs for the W/D amps. WD Example.hlx
  12. Wiring: Guitar>Helix Input>Effects>FX Loop L Block>Helix Send L (TIP)>Amp Input>Amp FX Loop Send>Helix Return L/MONO>Effects>Helix Left/Mono Out>Amp FX Loop Return Attached is a sample preset. FS2 switches between the Katana Preamp (LED lit), and the Stomp JTM45 Amp+Cab. You can experiment with A+C, Amp only, and Preamp. Different amp models will give different sounds. I chose A+C because when I had a Katana, I found that this sounded best. YMMV. kaybee64.hlx
  13. Your main signal path is called 1A (unless the 1A Output block is assigned to 2A). Pull the amp and cab sims down into a path 1B (or 2B). At the point where 1B (or 2B) merges back into 1A (or 2A), pull the merge point down so there's two Output Blocks. Assign them as required.
  14. Imagine the unimaginable - you have an amp and a pedalboard that you are TOTALLY happy with. You just wish that, in the middle of a song, maybe for a chorus, the amp gain could be up a little, a bit more middle, the reverb could be a little smaller, but slightly deeper, a bit more delay and more repeats, the tremolo ON, phaser OFF.....but there's no way you can make all those changes in the heartbeat between the verse and chorus.....YES THERE IS! It's called SNAPSHOTS!
  15. If the recorded Dry track's hardware output is set to 3/4, and path 1 input is set to USB 3/4, with path 2 output set to multi, it should work. I just tried it and it worked fine. Can't see any reason why path 2 should work, but not path 1.
  16. Output Block set to MULTI on both paths?
  17. You have three types of amps. Your Peters, your Syn1 and the many amp models contained in Helix (Are you using the Floor, Rack (with or without controller?), HXFX or HX Stomp?). Effects are those other things modeled in your Helix - distortions, flangers, delays etc. Attached is a preset that demonstrates how to do what you want. Wire it like this: Helix FX Loop 1 SEND>Peters INPUT>Peters FX SEND>Helix FX Loop 1 RETURN Helix FX Loop 2 SEND>Syn1 INPUT>Syn1 FX SEND>Helix FX Loop 2 RETURN Helix L/MONO OUT>Peters FX RETURN Snapshot 1 - Peters Pre - Signal flow: Helix Input>DISTORTION(default OFF)>FX Loop 1 SEND>Peters Input>Peters FX Send>FX Loop 1 Return>DELAY(default ON)>Peters FX RETURN Snapshot 2 - Syn1 Pre - Signal Flow: Helix Input>DISTORTION(default OFF)>FX Loop 2 SEND>Syn1 Input>Syn1 FX Send>FX Loop 2 Return>DELAY(default ON)>Peters FX RETURN Use shielded cables all around. Plug all devices into a single filtered surge strip to (hopefully) avoid ground loops. You'll need to set the FX Loop SEND levels in Global Settings>INS/OUTS to INSTRUMENT. Set the RETURN levels to INSTRUMENT or LINE, whichever works best. EDIT: from the Syn1 Manual: * IMPORTANT - if placing the SYN-1 on top of a head cabinet or combo, you MUST place the SYN-1 on the opposite side of your amp's main transformer (usually the inputside). Placing the SYN-1 overthe mains transformer may cause noise to enterthe signal chain. ocd123.hlx
  18. Can't tell you why it works that way. The solution is to put your Boost pedal AFTER the stomp, or in the FX Loop after the Stomp's amp. Or, just use a Stomp button or Snapshot to boost the Output Block Level.
  19. Drag the track into the left hand column and a track will automatically be created. You may have to pause a moment before dropping till the icon changes. Lower the level of the backing track. The stomp track, if you're taking it from USB 1, is a set level.
  20. If you're "loading the backing track into Reaper" that means that you're copying the backing track to a Reaper track, in which case it shouldn't matter if HXS is your interface. If you're STREAMING the track into Reaper, that's a different story. Which is it? If STREAMING, how exactly?
  21. Also, don't forget to turn up the volume on the piano itself.
  22. Guitar>Helix Input>Effects>Helix Amp>FX Loop 1 Block>Helix Send 1>Amp Input>Amp FX Loop Send>Helix Return 1>Effects>Helix Left/Mono Out>Amp FX Loop Return When you want to use a Helix amp instead of the SYN1, insert the Helix amp before the FX Loop Block. Set the Helix amp OFF and the FX Loop Block ON. Assign a Stomp pedal to (same one) to both. Save the Preset. When the FX Loop Block is ON the Helix Amp will be OFF. When the FX Loop Block is OFF the Helix Amp will be ON and your SYN1 will be bypassed.
