Yes, it is about using a hub. Proof? Do what I suggested and the problem will go away. The problem is caused by the way Windows deals with USB ports. How do I know? My AI and Helix are plugged directly to the laptop. 7 other midi devices are connected to a hub. My mouse dongle and external HD are connected to another hub running off a type "C" connector. I use LIVE, Reaper and Cakewalk regularly, and others occasionally. I got no problems like you got. People who don't care about how the manufacturer of a device say to use it, then wonder why they have problems........
-
Most laptops have more than one USB port. Both of mine have three. Plug you Helix in directly, use the hub for other stuff. Your problem is a result of violating rule #1 of using Helix with USB - DO NOT USE A HUB! Once you've fixed your LIVE sets, the problem won't recur. Just don't use a hub with Helix.
-
No. BUT.....You could replace/supplement the Moskey with a small external midi controller and do whatever you need to do.
-
You can assign a CC# to control the min/max positions of heel and/or toe. You can use an expression pedal (midi or attached as a third exp pedal) or a static CC. See page 42 of the manual, "Controller Assign". You can also use snapshots.
-
In Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo, turn OFF MIDI PC Send. That prevents Helix from sending it's default PC. In your Presets, in CommandCenter, use an Instant Command (the lightning bolt) to specify the PC# you want to send on Preset Load. That's it!

I think it may have started with Abstract Art in the mid 19th century.

Agreed. I think that ALL of these problems are related to the 1 switch looper implementation, since that's when it seems to have started. I just got off the phone with Josh in California. He tried, no problem! Had me send him the presets I'm using to test. Will report back when I hear back from him.

Open a support ticket. While I suppose it's possible that using an antique OS could cause a problem, I don't think it likely, as LOTS of people are still on W7.

In v2.82, if you are able to STOP playback of a recorded loop, switch presets, then restart the recorded loop, then you have a very special version of 2.82. Maybe when you updated to 2.82, the looper part of the update only partially took? I know, sounds crazy to me, too, but only thing I can come up with. The inability to record, stop, switch presets and restart is totally consistent on my floor. As far as all the buttons not working, I can't duplicate that. The recorded loop is gone after stopping then switching presets, but I can always start a new one. The only button I have consistent trouble with is in one button mode, getting a double-tap to stop the playback. I have to tap it rapid-fire multiple times to get it to stop. That behavior is the same on the Floor and the Stomp.

Are you saying that, using v2.82, SOMETIMES you can STOP playback, switch presets, and RE-START playback, but SOMETIMES playback won't re-start? But SOMETIMES it will?

One of his better rants. He's the personification of a most unfortunate cultural trend - lots of people like the angry rant thing, are impressed by copious use of the f-word, and will watch those kind of videos even when they are neither funny nor relevant. His t-shirt says it all. And in this case, he's absolutely correct in his premise. I must be an outlier, because I wouldn't watch either of his example videos, and most of his angry rants just make me want to punch him in the face until he shuts up. Which, of course, demonstrates his premise. He's controversial, therefore gets lots of views, and even though I don't like him, once again I got sucked into watching one of his videos. Which made me laugh. Thanks a lot?

They run warm. If it's as warm as a PSU for a computer, that's OK. Does it burn your finger to touch it? THAT would be a problem! My Stomp is on 24/7. It doesn't get any hotter even if I'm playing constantly for extended periods. Any electronic device left out in the sun is in danger. If it really concerns you despite all of that, you could always get one of those little laptop cooler pads with fans, but unless it actually burns your finger or the magic smoke is escaping, you're probably over-thinking it..

Reserved CC#s are only going to cause a problem if you use those that are clearly defined in the Helix manual, or if you have other devices such as synths in your MIDI chain that aren't properly assigned to different MIDI channels than the Helix. If you're more specific about the problem you encountered I can try to help. The CC#s that I used in the attached files should not cause any problems. If they do, I want to know about it!

You are the only user I've seen with this excessive boominess problem. Did you get it off the floor and vertical as suggested? Are you coming into it directly from the Helix, as opposed to some sort of emulated speaker out from a guitar amp? Have you checked to see if the tweeter is working? I have a FRFR112, on a stand, and it's not boomy at all. I can make it boomy playing bass through it, but even then I have to go out of my way to ADD bass frequencies. And that's with a P-bass!

I'm on v2.82, the latest. What version are you on?
-
No. If you have a small rotary/slider controller such as a Korg nanoKontrol (small and light enough to mount on a mic stand), you can assign those parameters to the nanoKontrol knobs/sliders using MIDI CCs, but that's about the best you can do. Edit: Sorry, just realized that the Korg won't work, it requires a driver.

In preset mode, press 1+2 for preset UP;Press 2+3 for preset DOWN. Same for Snapshots in Snapshot mode. There's also a mode where 1 is DOWN, 2 is UP and 3 is whatever it's set to be, stomp or tempo or preset up or down or snapshot up or down or all bypass or toggle exp.

If it's laying on the floor in monitor position, put it on a short speaker stand. No floor coupling, better tweeter dispersion. Make sure the 108's contour switch is off. If neither of those works, use the Global EQ.

Pretty much all of them. But then, I'm not into the VOX sound, or overdriven NMV amps into 10" speakers, or Telecasters. I used those videos as examples to illustrate the point that even guys who really like a particular type of sound can't tell the difference between a $3000 state-of-the-art profiling rig and a last gen $300 modeling amp, even on their favorite sounds. On the other end of the spectrum, you can pull up most any Anderton's video and see those guys pull great sounds out of anything from a $50 AIAB pedal to a KPA, playing $5000 LPs and $150 Squiers, and in blindfold tests, not being able to tell the difference! If the point of the comparison is to say which sounds best to who, they'll often disagree, and frequently surprise themselves when they think the cheap solution sounds as good, or better than the most expensive. Much to Lee's consternation, knowing he'll have to explain to the sales reps why Rob or Pete or Rabea thought (body language and facial expressions) or even SAID that their best-selling top-dollar product sounded like lollipop, in front of a million You Tubers! Proving what? That a PRO can make most anything sound good, and.... Two PROs in the same genre of music can walk out of the same store with different gear that sounds great, BECAUSE...... In the end, GREAT TONE is entirely subjective, AND...... We're blessed to live in a Golden Age of great, affordable gear! AND... we ALL could benefit greatly by spending more time playing and less time obsessing over which NOS tubes sound best in our 50 year old tube amps!

There's lots of this vs that videos on YT, just search for "Your-favorite-amp vs". Here's a couple of examples that I thought were interesting and fun. Vox vs Helix vs SpiderV vs Kemper They split on the Kemper, one picked Kemper, the other picked Vox. They thought the Helix was either the Vox or the Kemper. They thought the Vox was the SpiderV They thought the SpiderV was the Helix On the Princeton comparison : They thought the Kemper was either the SpiderV or Helix They thought the SpiderV was the Princeton They thought the Princeton was either the Helix or the SpiderV They thought the Helix was the Kemper Now, these guys don't claim to be anything other than what they are, guitar players having fun on YT, and these videos are certainly not any kind of definitive. They are, however, comparatively well recorded, and food for thought. My takeaway from these and other modeler shootouts I've seen is that a 1x12, be it FRFR or Powercab or whatever, is never gonna sound like a 4x12. Any of the current modelers can be dialed in to sound good, if not authentic. Some of the most expensive guitar-specific "FRFR" boxes sound like poop. For AITR, nothing beats an Amp In The Room. YMMV. Try before you buy. Caveat Emptor.

I don't know about the WOW factor, that's a personal/subjective thing. There have been a number of "blindfold" challenges on YT - Helix vs Kemper vs Fractal vs Spyder V vs you name it - wherein the Spider V has been mistaken for the much higher end units. IOW - don't mistake internet hype for reality. If it sounds good to YOU, it IS good! Also, stereo really does improve the experience for home players, not so useful on stage.

Native by itself is $400. Add a basic quality interface $100. At $500 you're not far from an HX Stomp, and once you buy the hardware Native is $100. Powercab plus can be controlled from full sized Helix models via L6 Link using presets and snapshots. It's also going to be updated with additional speaker choices. There are other advantages. Go to the L6 site and study up on it. Bottom line is the audio reproduction system - speakers. Don't cheap out, but do your research into what other people use. 5" in minimum. I use 6" Rokits. They're a few years old but sound fine. Newer models sound better. Yamaha is VERY popular. If you haven't already, search here and on TGP for "FRFR". You'll find thousands of suggestions.
