I think you're out of luck as far as actively scrolling the input impedance settings goes. You can use Snapshots to change them to accommodate specific devices, but that'a about it AFAIK.

Personally, I hope that EVERYBODY gets what they want for Christmas. BUT....I still think their dev time would be better spent on the Free Pony before they start work on the Unicorn!

Make sure you're using the Import button on the Presets line. It sounds like you're hitting the Import button on the Setlists line.

Putting aside for the moment the price/performance ratio thing. One of the biggest complaints about Helix is the perception among some that the reverbs suck. There are many very high quality reverbs available as VSTs. And yes, people DO use laptops for live performance, for many reasons other than better reverbs or amp sims. People do lots of strange things. Not long ago I saw a guy at an "Art Show" who used a laptop and assorted MIDI controllers for guitar, keys, drums, and complex live looping. For an amp he mic'd his studio monitors! Go figure! Awesome one man band performance BTW.

Nor is anybody (in their right mind) asking for zero latency. Nor does anybody (in their right mind) expect to match the performance of a $3000 dedicated interface. But seriously - higher latency than a $100 Behringer?

I agree that it's probably not high on their priorities list, but either "We're thinking about it", or "It's not happening" would be preferable to the current silence. Even if the answer is "We're working on it", those of us who've been here a while know better than to expect an ETA, never mind a firm date. Unless the answer is SPRING!...... :-)

If your Helix is all you ever use, then NO. Direct (hardware) monitoring is obviously (unless you're a total noob) the way to go. If you occasionally like to mess with VST amp sims, or have specific VST processing needs that you want to hear while playing then YES. The point of all this is that L6 Helix marketing heavily stresses the AI capability. The high latency relative to dedicated AIs will continue to surprise new users who expect better. If better latency is possible, it would be nice if L6 would either make it happen or say why it ain't gonna happen. An official statement would at least give us something to point at for new users who don't first do a search for "latency" before starting a new thread....

I totally agree that he is technically very knowledgeable. and I've learned quite a bit from him in previous threads. In typical TGP fashion, most of the respondents in this thread, including JR, had no business getting involved. My purpose in starting the thread was clearly stated. It was a simple not very technical question addressed at someone (DI specifically) from Line6. If DI would respond "Yes, phil_m is right, we're not interested in developing low latency drivers" or "No, the HW isn't really designed for low latency performance", that would be, as I stated, "All she wrote", "End of story". But, being TGP this will probably drag on for 12 more pages if DI doesn't do that, and 20 more pages if he does!

The guy who posted those RTL numbers made it clear that he didn't care whether we believed him or not. I don't want to call him a liar, so just color me "skeptical". The question you're responding to was, to be honest, an attempt to get JR to use his amazing command of technical jargon to do it for me. I'm so evil.....

4cm uses one FX Loop Block. 7cm uses two FX Loop Blocks. Helix Floor/Rack have 4 physical FX Loops. HXFX has 2 physical FX Loops. HXS has 2 physical FX Loops with a single TRS SEND.

I had a LP with an active boost circuit. My G10 made horrible noises until I added an extension cable and attached the transmitter to the strap. Something about the batteries messing with the transmitters.

If you attach a sample preset, I can test it on my Helix Floor, and see if you've got it set up right. I don't have the BIAS Head, so I just tested this with BIAS FX, which seems to be the only version that responds to MIDI. I set IC1 to a PC# assigned to a BIAS preset, and IC2 to a CC# assigned to GAIN for that amp model, and set different gain levels in SS1,SS2 and SS3. Everything worked as expected, other than the GAIN values displayed didn't match the MIDI values sent except relatively - 70=6.x;90=8.x;110=9.x I have to use X.x because you can't see the knob values without dragging, which instantly changes the values. I Own BIAS AMP, BIAS AMP2 Lite and BIAS FX. I hadn't used any of them in ages. Using them again reminded me of WHY. I hate EVERYTHING about Positive Grid! Anyhow, it all seems to work on the Helix end. Attach your preset and I'll test it.

Download and install with all options the latest version of HX Edit. That installs the latest drivers and Updater version. Close HX Edit before running the updater. Do save yourself a lot of grief by reading the directions.

In this thread: I'm over on TGP fighting off the "I don't know but here's my opinion because you're an idiot to want to know" guys. It's hard, annoying work, but I have every confidence that eventually Digital Igloo (the only person who ACTUALLY KNOWS) will respond with a definitive and official answer to these questions. The whole point of "modeling" is to accurately model a particular device's real world behavior. Adding EQ to the device defeats that purpose. Having a separate EQ to modify that device's behavior accurately models what you would do in the real world to get a result specific to YOUR needs.

I just ran the RTL Utility on my Helix Floor. at 96k/64samples the RTL was 10.402ms. I'm going to post that over on TGP and see if DI responds. I'll report back!

You may be right. The best I can get with Helix is 12.5ms. I'm using a 7th gen i7 laptop that could be better optimized if all I used it for was audio, so I've always assumed that a properly configured latest gen i7 or i9 desktop could do better. My 2nd gen Scarlett 18i20 at 16spls gets 3.6ms (DAW reported - RTL reports better, but I don't remember exactly what it was). Unfortunately, the laptop won't run that sample rate without noise. I assume you've got (or have tested on) an i9? I'm jealous. I want one! Even if it won't make Helix latency less. As stated above, direct monitoring is always best anyway.

Actually, my first electric guitar (Danelectro) got played through an amp that looked like a smallish radio (probably was, without the tuner, NO FX) and recorded on a mini reel-to-reel. I'm THAT old. I hear ya! BUT...to be fair..... Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away....we plugged the amp into the wall, plugged the guitar into a CryBaby and a TS, popped a cassette into the Teac 4 track and pressed RECORD. It was a simpler time, for sure. These days there's so much tech available, for so little money, and so much to learn, it's hard for a beginner to know where to start. To make it worse, every mfr/vendor makes it sound like it's all plug'n'play. HAH! Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away....

Create a Path B at the end of your signal chain (requires a block). Zero the Output on Path A. Set the Input on the Reaper Track to 3/4. As Sascha mentioned, you will have to deal with the latency, but if you've got a good, properly optimized computer you should get <10ms @ 64spls.

When you're using HXS as your AI, you're recording a direct digital signal. That's one less AD/DA conversion, and the 6i6 preamp is out of the picture. You can get a good recording from the 6i6, but you need to have it configured properly. Stick with what works for now, and keep studying recording technique.

I believe that what you're hearing is what those amps/effects sound like. To get around it, use other amps and effects that you like better, or use the EQ to CUT what you don't like.
