The Helix itself has hiss. Try listening to it with no blocks and nothing plugged in or with the Volume completely turned down.

Well this little bug is going to cost me ALOT of work unless the upgrade comes quickly that keeps the Variax settings and the snapshot settings from my backups!!! Had to do a rebuild. But I can't wait very long. Mostly wish there had been a bigger WATCH OUT FOR THIS warning. Anything else I should know before I put more work in?

Currently I do the gaffers tape thing but I'm planning on trying a rug that I will run all my cables under. Saves on taping time and money. The size may be too much of a hassle though so we'll see.

As soon as Workbench became available for the original Variax, alt tunings were available. As I recall, when it first came out, there was a cap over the VDI/Cat5 output with no talk of what it would do. Just that something was coming down the pike. So you couldn't do it yet but the capability was ALWAYS in there. Just waitin for Workbench to come out. I don't know who told you that but they was lyin' to you.

When sending a signal directly to a mixer or recording a signal, the actual measured dB is important. Once that level is established, it is then, that you use your ears.

Just an FYI. I am using my XLR outputs direct to the board at mic level. I am able to accurately set that level at home. I would set my levels with the Volume knob at noon. I then did what you want to do, with the XLR'S not being controlled by the volume knob. The XLR'S output was then much higher and I confirmed with Line 6 that when you disengage the XLR'S from being controlled by the Volume knob, it treats the XLR'S outputs as if the Volume knob is turned all the way up. Since I had already created a bunch of patches, I decided to lower the Global EQ's volume and had to lower it by 13.5 dB. You can make so the Global EQ doesn't control the 1/4" ouputs so that level isn't significantly lower. Here's my post on this subject if you're interested. http://line6.com/support/topic/25298-mic-level-xlr-output-is-high-q-for-di/?do=findComment&comment=194827

It will not. DI said that since there are so many free VST programs that will run your VST instruments as a standalone, it's not in the works for now either.
-
Oh! I didn't know that. I guess, as you said, the contrast is so small I didn't notice it.

I only kind of get it. When you label it, the label only reflects what the toe switch is. I don't get why it can only do that. I just know that it is. Since the default is EXP1 EXP2, it seems like there would be a way to program that, it just doesn't do it now. That, to me, renders that scribble strip as pretty much worthless. I guess you could put your name in there to customize your Helix. DI did say in the thread I posted that things were put in, in anticipation of updates. So I'm guessing it's on the "list". But he also suggested you put it on ideascale. Don't hold your breath though. I know the list is long. Bottom line, you can only label it one thing and it doesn't even at least dim to indicate what state it's in.
-
As far as I've been able to figure, you can't name it two seperate things. Right now there is EXP1 and EXP2 one of which dims and the other is brighter depending on what EXP you've selected. If you name it, you get only one name that remains the same no matter what EXP you've selected. If you want to give it a name, it's in approximately the same place as it is for the scribble strips. Just found the thread where Digital Igloo responded to this issue. http://line6.com/support/topic/16170-how-do-i-change-the-exp1-and-exp2-label-to-wah-and-vol/

No politics please. I might be someone that would purposely lollipop the update if that was the case. Please make this one sanctuary from all of that.

I kind of hate to resurrect this thread and I don't know if this has been mentioned but there is a 2016 Zappa documentary called Eat That Question:Frank Zappa In His Own Words on the Starz cable channel. I'm in the US on the west coast and it airs on Monday Feb 13th at 3:22am in my time zone. I'm watching it right now and that's the only other time it airs that I can see. Just FYI.

Any acoustic amps in any update? Or acoustic options?

I have tried all of the suggestions here. Maybe I just haven't found the right IR. -

I've done that. I have Freman's patche bundle and that helps but not what I'm looking for. -

I don't know if an official acoustic amp would solve this but I have a JTV Variax and I find the acoustic sims to be a bit anemic. They work and are convincing but I would love something that would give them more fullness or body, for lack of a better word. I've tried all of the EQ and mic preamp options. And many of the Guitar/Bass amp options. I have an old Variax and I had an X3 which had alot more mic preamp options. I had a Variax/mic preamp combo for the old acoustic sims that sounded fantastic to me so I know Line 6 can do it. -
Can you or anyone, for that matter, recommend a good free one?
-
I hope you're right. I'm just not as enthusiastic about the durability. Not that I don't like the quality.
-
Yes. Currently you can run Pod Farm 2 outside of a DAW on it's own. The Helix Native currently has to run as a VST from inside a DAW. I'm hoping and wondering if there are plans to make it also a stand alone app/program. I know you don't have to be connected to a Helix.
-
I don't know if this has been asked or can be answered but is there a plan for a stand alone version of Helix Native like Pod Farm 2 had?
-
Thank you guys for these options. I got a Helix bag when they offered it for free with the purchase of a Helix. But I don't think it will last forever.

Just an odd sidenote. My wife often walks her dog with Howard Kaylan's (Eddie) wife. Not close personal friends or anything.

Gee golly. You're so clever, I guess you win. The Helix absolutely cannot under any circumstances reproduce those sounds  The few posts I've checked out from this guy are asking other people to create sounds and then say it doesn't sound like it.. He just likes to mess with people from his mother's basement. Ignore him.
