New 89F Won't Stay in Tune
brue58ski replied to pearlfukinjam's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Here are two websites on how to put the strings on. https://www.floydrose.com/support/tech-support/string-changing-instructions http://www.wikihow.com/Restring-a-Floating-Bridge-(Floyd-Rose) These methods have you change the strings one at a time. You can block the trem at the back with something so you can take all of the strings off at the same time. Here's a picture showing how to block the trem with popsicle sticks I actually use a wine cork I shaved down instead of popsicle sticks. Here's two pics showing how the trem plate should look relative to the guitar's body. Good Bad -
Don't forget the S/PDIF digital output. You can record a dry signal that way as well. You can't using the USB.

Go here http://l6c-acdn.line6.net/data/6/0a06434dc1a55085c5d6532bf/application/pdf/POD%20HD500%20Advanced%20Guide%20v2.10%20(%20Rev%20A%20).pdf And go to Appendix B. That has all of the MIDI parameters that the HD500 controls.

MXR Distortion + was almost as much a stand by effect as the tube screamer was. They've never modeled it. If they did, I could create my old setup. Not that I would want to. B)

Problem with guitar
brue58ski replied to tjbrosch71's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I believe it's a fairly generic whammy bar. I would just go into a store with it and try one. -
Did I get a Bad Guitar?
brue58ski replied to robertallen's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I'm assuming you bought it used. The tunings can all be changed. So you can change it back to DADGAD. Is there a manual? If not go here http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434c5717520d343bb9e15/application/pdf/James%20Tyler%20Variax%20Pilot's%20Guide%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20E%20).pdf And look at page 12. -
Well those went fast.

There is no "meter", it will just tell you very quickly.

If you are in studio direct, check to make sure your Global EQ is off.

Variax HX Motherboard Upgrade (suggestion)
brue58ski replied to Rewolf48's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I hope this is something that happens. I love my JTV 89F and unless I win the lottery, I'm very sure this will be the last guitar I ever buy (I can hear your eyes rolling but it's true.) If I have to buy another guitar to get the latest Variax "computer" then I won't be getting that. I am content with the guitar as is. Always open to improvement but I'm done spending approx. $1,000 every 5-10 years for the latest greatest. -
You must be very new at this. All I can say is eventually they won't. Theoretically you should use the preamps when going into the power amp of a guitar amp. And the "full" amp into an FRFR. But I have found that using the preamps only in a FRFR (with different cabs and mics) give you even more sound options. As pianoguy pointed out, if it sounds good, it is good. Don't sweat the "theoretical".

Looks like they're gone. Thank goodness I was strong and didn't get one. But now I'm regretting that decision. What's wrong with me? (Don't answer that)

http://www.eminence.com/pdf/Kappa_12A.pdf Explaining the specs would require a basic electronics knowledge which I don't have the time to give you and if you had that, then you wouldn't need more of an explanation. The main spec would be the power rating. Then the impedance. The frequency response curve of this speaker has a major dive at 5 kHz. See it in the document I have linked. That would indicate that it won't suffer from high notes as you put it. But again, it ALWAYS takes a listen before you can come to any solid conclusions.
-
I would say a lot depends on what you're amp or power amp will be. But I would also say, you probably won't get the answers you're looking for on this forum and, unfortunately, as was stated before, the only way to really know is to build it and listen. The specs are OK for a guitar amp. You can use it for that. Just make sure your impedances match.

Pianoguy I had an HD500. I got an HD500X when they went on sale somewhere. Using my HD500 for a backup. Often, when I had taken a patch that I had created in an HD500 and put it in my HD500X, it wouldn't "take" for lack of a better word. Sometimes, when my HD500X was on a patch I had loaded earlier from my HD500 files (.h5e file extension instead of HD500X's .5xe) and I started HD Edit, it would time out and not connect. To fix it, all I did was shut Edit down, switch to a different patch and fire Edit back up while on that different patch. I could then go to the HD500 patch in Edit from there. I also had an old banjo patch I built on the HD500 (I own a JTV Variax). I had saved a banjo tuning to my banjo model slot on my JTV. When I pulled the old banjo patch over that had the banjo model slot selected, the banjo tuning would be different. And it wasn't because I had save a tuning in the patch itself on the HD500. And, as I recall, the tuning on the banjo model in the Variax would get stuck on that tuning. Rebooting and restarting would get everything back. So it was mostly what I described in some manner. Sometimes if I fired up the HD500X when it had been shutdown on a patch I had created in the HD500 and stored by "SENDING" and not saving from the unit, it wouldn't like it. It's been so long, I can't remember what it would fire up on but I could go to another patch, fire up Edit, and then go back to it. Something like that. I then found that if I saved it to the HD500X from the unit itself it would be OK. It seems to me I had found that I would also have to change something in the patch before saving. I don't need to go back to my old HD500 patches anymore so it's been awhile since I've experienced this. So it was fixable but it's been so long, I can't remember all of the specifics.

How am I supposed to save for my Helix when people like you post stuff like this? You sir, are the devil!!! VERY tempting but I must be strong. Maybe they'll take 'em down to $50 eventually. C'mon Brue, you can be strong. AArrgh...feeling weak...gasp. Must...hold...on...cough cough.

Here's the best trick I've heard of and used. You need two spoons and some soft cloth to put under them. You want to put the tip of each spoon under the knob on opposite sides of each other with the cloth underneath to protect the finish. Then press both handles of the spoons down and the tips of the spoons will lift it off. The best part of this is it provides equal pressure on each side of the knob. I'll try and find a pic of what I'm talking about.

That has been my experience as well. the fact that the asterisk stays there is how I found the HD500 patch not working on the HD500X solution. But, when creating patches from scratch, even though the asterisk is there, if you were to SEND a patch and turn the unit off and on, the SEND patch would be there with no asterisk.

That's true but that's an old studio trick. They didn't come up with it. Basically Main audio panned to one side. Reverb panned to the other. Don't know whether the reverb unit used was mono or not. But it was panned. Ya also generally don't want to pan them hard.left and right.

Got me! I had my clever retort all ready to go and ya snatched the opportunity away from me. Well played. I hate you.
