More Bass amps sims. ;)
-
I was always impressed with how the Bass Pod XT Live amps sounded when recorded. Never listened to them in a live situation though. These would also be found in a Pod X3 Live. I'm sure you can find a Bass Pod XT Live cheap and would recommend checking one out. The output options in the Bass Pod XT Live are impressive as well. For example, it has outputs specifically made for bi-amping. Also has a way to combine the direct sound with the amped sound. Pretty cool.

One thing I think I have found that exacerbates this issue is using the pedal board while having HD Edit running at the same time. Even if it's to just use the volume pedal. I've stopped using the pedal when HD Edit is hooked up to the HD500 and that issue has gone away (I think). I believe the pattern is, I use the HD500 pedal board while still hooked up to the computer and HD Edit. I shut down everything without saving the last changes I did to the HD500. When I rerun HD Edit, the channel volume changes as it is loading (I can hear it.) and stays at the new level. My theory is the HD500 comes up with what I last had going on which is in a buffer area reflecting what was changed but not what is saved in that particular slot, when HD Edit is fired up it goes past the buffer and loads what is stored in that patch slot. Or visa versa. I haven't focused on this problem enough yet to have tracked down exactly what is going on.

New to Line 6 / HD500x - Best Vids to Start Learning?
brue58ski replied to Mike_Rogers's topic in POD HD
Check these threads to help you understand how the HD500 looks at routing. http://line6.com/sup...atics/?hl=paths http://line6.com/sup...tart=0&tstart=0 Here's more http://line6.com/sup...vs-both-inputs/ Then there's Meamboo's website. http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ All of that should give you enough to keep you occupied for awhile. -
+1 to what pianoguy said. I'm guessing somewhere after the mixer, you have some FX. Those FX are likely summing your left and right signal. Each path should be completely it's own with nothing inserted after the mixer. Here's an old post that will direct you to some threads that will help with the routing issue. http://line6.com/support/topic/2033-pod-hd-500-500x-new-routing-schematics/?hl=paths http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/74045?start=0&tstart=0 Here's more http://line6.com/support/topic/4586-pod-hd500-hd500x-input-settings-phase-issue-myth-and-facts-single-input-vs-both-inputs/

This is a big guess but I'm pretty sure the HD500X isn't gonna go any further. Especially in regard to new amp models. I say this based on the past. Maybe we'll get some firmware tweaks but I'm pretty sure there will be no more modeled amp/FX updates. Once model packs have come out for other products, there were never any new amp additions that I recall. In the forum menu, the POD HD column is now towards the bottom. Just above all of the other discontinued models. Even the Firehawk (which I think is just the old POD X3/Amp Farm models in a new package.) is above the POD HD I don't think it will go away. I think it will continue to be the mid-priced Line 6 HD modeler. I think the focus is going to be on Helix for awhile. Just my opinion but I would do as suggested. For now and probably for awhile to come, focus on squeezing all the tone you can get out of this thing. Some are hard to get (I'm still trying to find a spot on China Grove tone) and even take a bit of luck but I would agree with the previous posters. If ya want it out of the HD500X, I'm afraid your gonna have to get it from what's in there now. And it's probably in there somewhere.

The problem you describe cannot be solved from the Edit program. There are no view options like that. Which I do not like.

I'm not so sure the old Variax's tuning can be controlled from the HD500 OR the X3. As I recall, you had to store the tuning in the guitar itself and then call up the memory slot that you save it in. So you could store the memory slot in a patch but you can't control the guitar's tuning from a patch. So I'm pretty sure you have to store the tuning in the guitar for which, obviously, you could use one off the Custom 1 or 2 slots in the old Variax,

Is Variax being discontinued?
brue58ski replied to Oyster38N's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
They came out around 2008. I saw a review from 2012 on them. I believe the MSRP was $1200 but you could get them for $800. Not exactly as cheap as I remember. -
HD500X Input Settings - Was that Old Issue Fixed?
brue58ski replied to bluebluetones's topic in POD HD
I think this is the thread someone mentioned http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/74045?start=0&tstart=0 And here's another helpful thread along the same lines http://line6.com/support/topic/2033-pod-hd-500-500x-new-routing-schematics/?hl=paths Here's more http://line6.com/support/topic/4586-pod-hd500-hd500x-input-settings-phase-issue-myth-and-facts-single-input-vs-both-inputs/ -
If your Variax is out of warranty, one thing I've done is open the Variax up and reseat all of the board connectors. That fixed an issue I had awhile ago.
-
I'm not sure but I believe once you have selected Variax as your input, there is a place to select whether it is an old Variax or a JTV Variax in the same place you can select which guitar and pickup you want. The mixer section I think. Could that be it?

The basic difference between the two is the XLR's are designed for mic level out. The 1/4" outputs are designed to be line or instrument level. But, but of course, you can make them whatever you want. I do wish there was a way to at least lock the level of one so the Master Volume only affected the other. With the X3 I would have a mic level going to the house out of the XLR's which were locked. I could then adjust the 1/4" to whatever level I wanted going to my amp to adjust what I was hearing.

I think if you were to perform a factory reset on the HD500, restoring it back to the factory settings, i.e. losing all of your patches, given the "invalid data" message, I'll bet it will start working again. The problem is you need to save your patches which you can't do because of the timeout dilema. A classic Catch-22. Perhaps you can find another computer that will let your HD500 save it's patches to it. Bottom line, I think a factory reset may fix the issue but it will eliminate all of your personal patches. If you want to try this you do this by holding down the left nav pad key while powering up the HD500. Good luck.

I have used it on the extremely rare occasion where it was just me and a singer with a powered speaker. Don't need to bring a mixer and I have the same ambience (reverb/delay) on both.

Is Variax being discontinued?
brue58ski replied to Oyster38N's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Ah, the first "cheap" Variax. It looked like a Pacifica headstock to me so that's why I made the presumption. But given that it was the "cheap" Variax, it then still doesn't surprise me it was made in China. -
Where is Line 6 Support?
brue58ski replied to barkerm's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Well I have 2 Variax 500's, Variax Bass, a JTV69 and JTV 89F as well as, POD XT, POD XT Live, Bass POD XT Live, POD X3, Vetta amp, HD 500 & HD500X. All of these still work. I have two of many of these because of the fear of any of them bricking. Hasn't happened. Line 6 can and does put out long lasting gear. The stuff that has failed after awhile seems to be in the minority. I can't help but think that the failures have more to do with the exponentially more complicated electronics than, say, the aforementioned SG. My 1974 SG still works too. But it's just basically a wire. from the cable to the guitar input connecting to the pickup to the windings around the pickup and back again. All essentially one big long piece of wire. I can fix a wire. I have. I can't fix a microprocessor. -
+1 on The Aux input. It is there for a second instrument. And by panning hard left and right, you can create 2 discrete paths. I've done it. Bass on one path, guitar on the other. It seemed to be an instrument level input, just like the guitar input.
-
I may be thinking of my Vetta. It did have that issue. Had to have something plugged into the input to use the FX return. Oh well.
-
I'm not sure but it seems to me sometimes an amp has to have something plugged in in front of it for the return to work the way you want. This is assuming you're going GUITAR-HD500-AMP FX RETURN. Plug some kind of dummy plug into the input and then try it. Just a thought, Not sure about this at all. Along the same lines, maybe it's because nothing is plugged into the FX sends.
-
That is an excellent way to adjust your master level after you have created a patch.
-
This happened to me also. It appears that they (Line 6) don't keep a very large back stock of them around. I think they had to unload a bunch of the old Variax's at a discount because they used to. Worth the wait if you get one that works. Don't let that last statement scare you. I've had excellent luck with Line 6. I own 4 Varaixs and they all work great, but I did have an issue with the JTV89F that I had ordered. It took awhile to get corrected. So, Just make sure everything works. If it does, you'll be good to go. I have two of the old Variax 500's purchased around 10 years ago and they still work great.
-
No that won't work. As cclement said, not enough amps. Also the specs for the DC plug that are on the Line 6 website are WRONG!!!! I spent $20 finding this out the hard way. Here's what I posted in another thread. WARNING:WARNING. I know according to the specs the "hole" on the connector is 2.1mm but this is WRONG!!!. 2.1mm is too small. I wasted $20 finding this out. The correct measurment is 2.5mm not 2.1mm. I was trying to get an elbow adapter for the 500 and the 2.1 didn't work. The specific measurements were. 5.5 X 2.5. This is what I got. BiXPower LC53 Right Angle Connector Converter for 5.5 x 2.5mm DC Power Connector This size worked. I don't know why their measurements are so off.
