  1. I haven't read the whole thread but can't you just use that? I'm guessing you're thinking it would be integrated into the Helix itself but I'm going to guess the processing power required wouldn't allow you to do a whole lot more in the Helix. And it's on sale!
  2. Line 6 has never done that that I remember. Ya just have to figure it out. I wish they would. But I tend to avoid factory presets anyway,
  3. The tunings won't work. They are based on the guitar being in standard tuning. That was my original post and was based on my recollection of what has been posted before. I'm wrong in that it will work but it is optimized for standard tuning so supposedly it won't sound as good. My apologies. I have never personally tried it.
  4. Yes, you will need a power amp and at the very least, the cab will color yuor tone. Your patches that you develop for the 1960a will sound very different direct, through a PA or FRFR power amp/speaker. The Helix was basically made for that. It doesn't mean you can't get good sounds your way. When you do create them, dump the simulated cab in the Helix to start with.
  5. I used the wrong power supply and what you described happened to me. But I have another battery and it turned out I blew the battery, not the charger
  6. I love that sound. What amp did you use or can you provide a patch?
  7. There are usually seals that are broken when you open the chassis so if you do open it, Line 6 can tell.
  8. I think the Def Leppard sound used to rely alot on a modified Rockman or Rockman Sustainor (Tom Scholz, Boston). A hard sound to get with anything other than a Rockman. I haven't.
  9. Thank you for all your replies. I think I need to reread the manual again.
  10. I'm trying to make a patch with two snapshots that only change the guitar model the Variax uses but I'm having no luck. AM I missing something or does it not do that?
  11. The Variax setting changes to global when I updated. Had to change it back to per patch.
  12. No. Those are essentially for home recording They won't sound bad at all but for one thing, the speaker cone is exposed. Not good for outside.

    Pod vs Helix

Well my opinion is pretty much what the guy in the video said. Amp wise the Helix sounds better. I thought the HD500X tended to sound like a blanket had been thrown over whatever amp the Helix was doing. But not a thick blanket. And I didn't hear anything in the 500 that probably couldn't be mostly corrected by some tweaking. There was an amp or two that I did think were just as good and/or, as he said, not better or worse, just different. I actually thought the HD500X's ENGL amp sounded better. Effects and reverbs, the Helix did better I thought, with exception of the distortions. Those were very very close if not equal. Although I thought the Chandler tube driver sounded better in the Helix. Overall I would say the HD500 is the low end compared to the Helix but is it, based on price, 3x better? I would say no. The HD500 is no slouch at all and will do you absolutely great if that's what you can afford. In fact I would say the HD500 is a fairly better value in regard to bang for the buck. But, it will take a significantly longer time to dial in your patches. I have had to spend more time on patches for my HD500X than I have with any other device I've gotten in the past. But in doing that, I've gotten many very very good results. So, IMHO, get the Helix if you can afford it. But if you can't, the HD500X is absolutely the way to go. I just took the Helix leap (Sweetwater 48 months same as cash and they've thrown in the $150 Line 6 Helix backpack for free. $32 a month). It arrives on Monday. I tried one about two weeks ago in a store and was very convinced. But the HD500X will be my totally acceptable and nearly equal backup. And let's be honest, unless the people you're playing for are guitarists; they, more likely than not, wouldn't hear a difference. It would all sound good to them. This purchase is mostly for my ears.
  14. I have one and a JTV89F and that's how mine fits. Haven't seen or heard of one that fits better that isn't custom fit.
  15. Yeah, I had (have) an SG I put a DiMarzio Super Distortion Humbucker in. That was the pickup that worked the best for that. It wasn't potted and, as we know, the Gibson pickups were. Currently has two Seymour Duncan JB's in it. I actually tried soaking the DiMarzio in wax per EVH but it didn't seem to make that much of a diffference. Re.: the TV remote made a buzzing sound through the pickup when you pressed any of the buttons. Not that dramatic or cool but with effects you could have some fun with it.
  16. Oh my gosh, I did the same thing. My pickups windings were so loose, you could almost make out the words. That and sticking the TV remote near it while pressing remote buttons.
  17. I'm sorry, I wasn't referring to the specific guitar but to the possibilities.
  18. Note to self:when responding to a post using the ancient Emoticon symbology that you do understand, be sure to use any kind of Emotiwhatever to let them know you knew it was a joke and was attempting to respond with humor as well. ;) :) :D B)
  19. An amp model of an amp modeler? Interesting.
  20. Well I'm glad I was strong. I just took the leap to Helix. It will be here Monday. So I'll keep my HD500X for a backup that will be tethered to my computer.
  21. Pretty much an industry standard and very well priced. At least in my industry (broadcast TV).
  22. That's good to hear but what about me. How am I now going to moor my aircraft carrier? ;)
  23. What The?!?!?!?!? :o That's a shame. That must change something in the tone then. Too bad.
