The TUNER! I didn't even think to check to see if that improved. I hope you aren't kidding. Don't get me wrong. I found I could work the tuner but it sure could use some improvements.

I take a pic of my screen via Prnt Scrn. Th fastest way to document where you put those things.

I don't know how close the Helix gets to the real Arion but I really like what it does in Helix. I like how different it is from other choruses but still musical.

Oh sorry, didn't catch that. Hooray for everything working. Yeah, I don't do MIDI either. I just copy and pasted the whole section on the Variax. Sorry if it seemed a little condescending. And I agree, the info does tend to be kind of all over the place.

Through Line 6 Monkey, I updated Workbench HD to 2.13 and the latest USB driver to 1.0.72. If I connect the Variax to my computer through its USB interface, Workbench HD connects to my Variax fine. I was expecting, however, that if I am connected to my Helix with a VDI cable, then Workbench HD should see the Variax. It doesn't. What am I missing? I'm feeling rather stupid, and don't see any step by step instructions for setting up and using the Workbench with my Variax I kinda hadda stumble through the process to get all the pieces installed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So according to this... Variax Workbench HD Support—Variax can now communicate directly with Variax Workbench HD software (Mac/PC) through Helix via USB. IMPORTANT! Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > MIDI over USB must be set to “On.†In addition, you MUST update Variax Workbench HD to version 2.13, available here: Mac: http://line6.com/sof...a.html?rid=7403 or Windows: http://line6.com/sof...a.html?rid=7402 Windows users MUST also download the Helix USB driver, version 1.85, available here: https://line6.com/so...a.html?rid=7381 IMPORTANT! Variax Workbench uses MIDI channel 16. When connecting to Variax Workbench via Helix’s USB port, do not assign Helix or any of Helix’s Command Center messages to MIDI channel 16 or Omni (which includes channel 16). The latest USB driver is 1.85 not 1.0.72. I got all my updates from the links in this message. Also did you do everything this says. I'm mainly referring to "MIDI over USB must be set to "On" ". That's what caught me. Now it works fine. Actually switches models in the Workbench program as you switch models in the Helix editor. I haven't tested to see what happens when I change the tunings in the Helix editor or what happens in the Helix editor when I change models or tuning in Workbench.

WOW. That looks very cool. I'm checkin' that out today.

You have to download editor 2.20 and install it. I don't think Updater updates the editor. And the editor installer installs the Updater as well. And I thought the updater should be 1.11 not 1.1. Yet you still got the Helix to update? I hope it all goes well after this. But it does sound like your good as far as the firmware goes.

Shade? Weighed? Filleted? Swayed? Made? Prograde? Played? Sprayed? Flambeed? I don't get it... ;)

"This" would not be true if the noise gate is placed before the Volume pedal which is what I'm trying to find out. "This" would only be true if the noise gate was positioned AFTER the Volume pedal which is what it sounds like in my patch and what "This" describes. I would like a confirmation of where in the signal path the noise gate at the input actually resides because it does not sound like it is actually at the very beginning of the chain. What I'm not looking for is a description of the phenomenon and why it's happening. I need no other info other than a confirmation of where in the chain the Noise Gate in the input section resides when it is engaged.

There's no need for me to test it. I've always put my noise gate before the volume pedal for all of the reasons I stated. It's always worked smoothly before. And, again, it's because the noise gate is already fully open since a chord has been hit. I'm not sure what's not clear about that.

Back up first! That's key. Then you can risk blowing the update process. Although, you WILL lose all of your patches in the Helix in the updating process. You will also have to completely reset your Helix up Globally. You probably already thought of this but the only thing I can think of to do for now is try a different computer to backup your patches. Even a PC if that's all you can find. Thoroughly read this. http://line6.com/support/topic/18284-latest-helix-firmware-212%E2%80%94jan-9-2017/

I'm not so sure you understand what I'm saying/asking. What you state would all be true with the Noise Gate AFTER the Volume pedal. That is how it is acting. But if the gate is BEFORE the Volume pedal it is the guitar's direct signal, not the Volume pedal's position that determines whether the Noise Gate is open or not. With the Noise Gate BEFORE the Volum pedal, if I have hit a chord full on, the gate should be fully open already, before I even move the Volume pedal. The threshold of the Noise Gate should have already been reached by the guitar signal. It should act as if there is no Noise Gate there since it has reached it's threshold and is fully open.

I REALLY like the idea of the patch panel to relieve the possible stress on the jacks of the Helix. Great idea!!

The party for Friday is on. Whether the upgrade decides to appear or not is unknown. Either way I'll have a tasty IPA to either celebrate or drown my sorrows.

One thing I think happens when using a home theater sound system is the system is looking for a 5.1 or 7.1 dolby signal but is only getting a stereo signal. And depending on your sound system, it can do different things. I had a system that would send no sound to the sub woofer when it was in dolby mode when I had a guitar gizmo hooked up so I lost much of my lows. But I've heard of other people having good luck with theater systems. So it seems like you're playing russian roulette when hooking up to a home theater/cinema system. It just depends on how it automatically processes whatever signal it gets. Hey!!! What about adding a dolby capability to the Helix!!!! (that is a joke)

If I don't figure this out, that's what I will do. Thanks.

I always thought it was the first thing in the chain since it is in the input block, until I came across this phenomenon of the volume popping in abruptly with the Volume pedal placed right after the input block. In other words, I hit a chord with the Volume pedal down. If the noise gate is the first thing, this should then open the gate while the Volume pedal is down which should then equate to a smooth volume transition as I bring the Volume pedal up. This is not what happens. The audio abruptly appears after bringing the Volume pedal up about 5%-10%. As if the gate is after the Volume pedal. BUT when I turn the gate off, the volume increase is smooth. This is in the same patch. I would love a confirmation from Line 6 regarding this.

In using the Volume pedal right at the beginning of the chain, if the noise gate is on, it acts like the Volume pedal is before the noise gate. With the noise gate on, the volume suddenly pops in when the volume is increased via the Volume pedal. It's at the very beginning of the pedals travel but it is there. Where if the noise gate is off, the volume reacts smoothly to the Volume pedal. Does anyone know where the noise gate is in the chain? I assumed it was right at the beginning since it was in the Variax area but the use of the Volume pedal proves differently.

Yeah, But then again, cartoons of this type were actually created to be viewed in a theater before a movie where there were often many adults. And at a time when Doctors would be in cigarette ads recommending that particular brand. Much of the humor in them was adult. That's why they are the best. It would be funny to see a My Little Pony smoking. Or horrifying. One of the two.

It would be cool if you could have something like the ability to save templates and that somehow, if you used one of your templates, all of the parameters of that template, could be or would be linked in some way so that any change you made in one patch with that template would be reflected in all of the other patches you used that template in. But for right now Helix can't do what you want it to as has been pointed out.

Yeah. I'm gonna guess the road was pretty straight when he did it.
