  1. A strong reason to separate sophisticated electronics and connections from the foot switches that control them comes from the actions of certain crazed fans (or band mates) at the front of the stage in a small venue or party. I'm glad I had this foresight when I decided my rig would be FBV (placed on the floor) + POD HD (placed in a container). The photo I added here shows what can happen when guests with drinks get invited on stage without prior screening. Thankfully, I just wiped it off before the next set, and it worked great!
  2. Just make sure you can hear yourself in the monitor. If it's not quite right, ask the engineer to adjust the EQ of the monitor if possible (more digital boards allow this). If you have an idea of the frequency to boost or cut, provide that to the engineer. They like numbers (i.e. cut everything higher than 8K). However, pianoguyy has outlined a good pitfall scenario to watch out for.
  3. Focus on those situations, so you can make tones that sound good with your guitar and pickup choice.
  4. The power tubes are most likely OK. Two possible reasons for the loss in tone are low batteries on active guitar pickup, or more likely worn preamp tubes. I replaced both mine with GrooveTube 12AX7 Silver series and they sound great for all kinds of styles, especially hard rock. They are easy to replace with no tools or electronics adjustments. There are a number of threads in this forum about this topic, and great info in the advanced manual.
  5. Since this response, I've played direct to the PA with the POD HD on 6 gigs and a couple of rehearsals. I ran the pod mono to a direct box at -20db.There were a total of 4 sound engineers among the gigs. They were all able to dial in a good sound to the mains. The monitor mixes were a little shrill, so I may cut back some of the high end on the global EQ. Adjusting those settings on the monitor mix also helps. Setup and teardown are much faster with this setup, and I don't have to break my back hauling SV MKII 212.
  6. At the end of February, I contacted Meris by email, and discussed bringing my amp to them when it was ready (since I live close to their facility). At that time the response was '...The new SVpre should be ready within a couple of months at most.' I'm still waiting for an update.
  7. The power amp in a rehearsal room was bridged to mono because of trouble with one of it's channels. The M20d is connected to it via Left/Right XLR. Is there a setting on the M20d for the Main Outs (XLR) to be converted or panned up to mono? If not, can I unplug one side and M20d will know to sum any stereo signal (such as Aux In, or Keyboards) to mono out? Any other suggestions to resolve? (other than fix the channel ^_^ )
  8. Looper engaged for me live in the middle of a classic cover. Not cool. Since Function 1 button is not consistent among POD HD and SV Amp, I accidentally pressed it. We need a way to disable Looper please!

  10. I usually use a SVMKII 212 for gigs, but tried my POD HD for a few small shows and practice through a small powered monitor. Sounds great (especially with new global EQ setting). Next gig has all amps and drums baffled with a good sound engineer, so musicians can't hear my amp anyway. I'll go direct to PA from the POD HD. I'll still bring the amp and leave it in car for backup. Wish me luck!
  11. Great playing and good demo of the new tones!
  12. Uthi, Thanks for posting how that issue happened. Yes, the amp is very loud on some models. Keep the Master about a quarter up. Unfortunately, that is too sensitive to make adjustments, so some of us here, including me, have used an external effect in the loop like an EQ with a volume level to bring it down. This can let you put the Master about half way up to allow for easier overall volume adjustments. It is what it is.
  13. I also agree with cruisinon2, I recently received a request to give some of my tones to another player. I explained it would be better for me to just help him dial in his tones based on his guitar, pickup, style, and performance requirements. Unless there is some trouble with your amp (try using it's direct output to another setup for testing), I suggest make your own tones.
  14. ...So I just tried this with 25 tones from my SVmkII to Pod HD. The models and options are so different that it became easier to just use my ears to decide what sounded similar. Even some of the effects use different terminology for the same parameter. It took all day, but I'm glad that's done!
  15. 'Board' could mean Console Mixing Board or FBV Pedal Board. If you are referring to one of the FBV Pedal Boards, check that the pedal isn't accidentally getting bumped by something. I prevent this by assigning the pedal volume it's maximum at all times (only using it for Wah). If you have active pickups in your guitar, it could be a bad battery. Replace battery or try an alternate guitar. It could also be an intermittent bad pickup, which I have experienced over the years of live playing.
  16. I can only speak on #2 (Loud). I finally ended up putting an old Alesis Nano Compressor in the Preamp Out/Power Amp In jacks. I turn off all it's compression and just use it's Level knob to tame the amount of volume hitting the Master. You could probably use a similar EQ pedal with level slider. Now I get way more range with the Master Volume control while keeping the same tone.
  17. Since the PODs use different models and effects, you have to manually recreate them. One way to make it easier is to use the advanced manuals of the HD100 and POD to cross reference the exact (or similar) amp models you are using. Once those amps are dialed in, it's a bit easier to add effects. I wish there was a simpler way, but at least the FBV pedal board is compatible across some PODs.
  18. Resoldering the boards is really going far! Although you swapped the 'valves' (tubes?), and tapped on each and got different results, IMHO I still think one of them is going bad. Replace them both for consistency over time.
  19. It sounds like either a preamp tube is dying (easy to replace yourself), or the volume pedal on a FBV is getting moved (I always disable the volume setting and just use it for wah).
  20. dvd5445, Not sure which shortboard you have, but try updating the firmware on the line6 shortboard. From the SV Advanced Guide: Firmware Updates: If you have an FBV Mk II series foot controller, you can update your Spider Valve Mk II’s firmware via USB and RJ45 connector when connected to your computer, should new versions of Flash Memory be released. You can also update using the MIDI connections on the Spider Valve MkII rear panel. Be sure to check the Line 6 website for the latest info on firmware updates and instructions for updating your Spider Valve MkII. You can also download the FBV Mk II Advanced Guide, which provides more details on the new FBV Mk II series foot controllers.
  21. My thought is it would be a hard sell for them to offer an additional Line6 212 cab for a combo that already includes it. This combo is loud enough and versatile for most gigs, indoor and outdoor.
  22. The speaker outputs are labeled for 4 and 8 ohm out (the HD100 head also has 16 ohm out), and the advanced manual is not clear whether these outs can be used in conjunction with the 212 cab. Hopefully, a line6 tech will chime in here.
  23. The Direct Out on MkII 212 is Line Level. I use standard XLR cable from amp to channel on PA mixing console live and recording. I believe the ends of the cable you use will not change the level that is feeding through the cable. The balanced connectors keep interference out of the path.
  24. It sounds like you want to try loading some tones from the community. Try this - http://line6.com/customtone/
  25. No, using the front input is not the correct gain stage and won't sound right as I found out --- see post http://line6.com/support/topic/1995-sv-pre-by-strymon/?do=findComment&comment=15577O
