Virtual Capo weirdness
cruisinon2 replied to Sampo72's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
This is roughly akin to emailing a surgeon who's never examined you, and asking if your brain tumor is operable.... Nobody's gonna give you an estimate until the problem(s) is identified. -
Uh oh, Tex... them's fightin' words. Put 'em up, put 'em uuuuuuuuuuuuup! 😂

JTV 69 Mods

And if you decide to paint the bridge anyway, at least make it something tasteful, like chartreuse....😩 -
Please let it be a Pig Nose, or maybe one of those awesome amps made from an empty pack of Marlboro Reds, a 9V, and a transistor radio speaker...😉

JTV-59 Future Upgradability?
cruisinon2 replied to jfluetter's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Ever the contrarian... I didn't say there've been no updates whatsoever...I said "major" updates...as in new or updated models, noticeable improvements in existing functionality, etc etc. The OP is concerned about future enhancements to the JTV he just bought. To that end, what was in 2.22 that would be of any concern for a JTV owner? Nothing...from the official description: "This firmware is the factory firmware for Shuriken Variax. The f/w adds support for the variax brand. Users of JTV and Variax standard guitars will see not difference in functionality other than version number." Prior to this one, you gotta go back to 2014 for an update that boasted "smoother model switching". Even farther back for new models. So like I said, it's been years since anything had changed substantially...and that won't change no matter how it's spun, or how fancy the verbiage. -
JTV-59 Future Upgradability?
cruisinon2 replied to jfluetter's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Hardware upgrades ain't happening... And given that it's been years since any major firmware updates for the current generation of Variax, I'd say even that's a long-shot at this point... whatever's coming next is very likely to be entirely it's own thing, with no backwards compatibility. -
There's not much to "solve" here. There are only a couple of possibilities...either you simply didn't charge the battery long enough, or the charger and/or the battery are defective. Either way, the only "solution" is to replace whatever's busted. If you purchased the guitar new, then it's covered under warranty. Take it back, or open a support ticket with Line 6. If you bought it used, get a new battery first. If that one fails to charge as well, then you know the problem is the charger...but I doubt that's the case. And even if it is, the worst thing that happened is you now have a spare battery, which you're gonna want anyway....especially if you're gigging with this guitar.

Not remotely...no guitar on earth has hot enough output to drive a speaker. That requires a power amp.

But it is convenient...😉

Why is your gear in the kitchen? 😂 The best way to destroy stuff is to be paranoid about destroying it...don't be stupid with it, stop obsessing about it, and in all likelihood, it will remain relatively unscathed...
-
Well that's exactly what I said...you couldn't pay me to start mixing and matching pre-amps and power amps, so I'd happily ignore such a feature, should it become available. But I'm not saying that no one else should...to each their own. But for me, it's overkill writ large, that's all.

That's as good a reason as any...😂

I'm sure others will disagree, but I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. Mine is a purely practical objection (if you can even call it that),as opposed to being "audio techie" or "digital techie" based. There comes a point when having endless otions becomes a hindrance, and you reach a point of diminishing returns. Can one's tone get "better" infinitely? I already spend too much time tweaking, without trying to create weird hybrid amp models. At some point, you hafta just play...

Stop. Do not pass "GO". Do not collect $200. And for the love of all that's decent and holy, get a cheap used laptop that's already got Windows on it instead of torturing yourself with Linux...

Really?!?!?!?! Speculation on the actual content of upcoming firmware is enough of a time waster, given that only a select few have any idea what's actually in it...but now we're going to debate the relative merits of it's numerical designation? 😂 Who the hell cares what number they hang on it?
-
Well I guess its about time. It's been at least 11 minutes since the last "Grand Mystery Of Volume" thread...😩

Well, I'll be clocking in at 88 if I make it that long. One never knows...perhaps they'll actually have the tuner sorted out by then. 😂

JTV69 bridge noise
cruisinon2 replied to frstrat's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You know perfectly well that I was referring to something specific...a simple bridge adjustment that is often necessary with new trem springs... which well within the wheelhouse of any competent tech. But you obviously suspect some "double secret" Variax-specific problem...so give the guy a hint, then. The cloak and dagger stuff doesn't help him, or anybody else who might have the same symptom. -
Anbody know what the weather's gonna be the third Tuesday in March, 2063? I'm busy, and I like to plan ahead...

I love these tuner threads...I wonder if any of the engineers at L6 had the slightest clue that the most discussed feature in Helix would end up being the friggin' tuner. It's great for spectators though...kinda like a visit to the funny farm, just without the straight jacket and meds, and you can go home at the end of the day! Everybody wins!!!! 😂 FWIW, the tuner in my Helix is no better or worse than the built-in tuners in any other similar devices I've owned...will I be setting intonation with it? No. Is it as good as my old rack-mount Korg? Again no, but it's functional enough with the neck pickup and the tone rolled off. However, for those of you who have experienced soul-crushing disappointment at hands of Helix's onboard tuner, there is solution that will get the show back on the road...Snark offers $8 clip-on solutions in every color of the rainbow. Cheap, quiet, no tap dancing, and best of all...no waiting around (becoming progressively bitter the longer it takes) for firmware updates to "fix" it, which may or may not ever be forthcoming. 🤘

JTV69 bridge noise
cruisinon2 replied to frstrat's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
New guitar, old guitar? And what sort of "popping" do you mean? Trem springs can make all sorts of noise. Crappy old ones will eventually start to creak like a rusty hinge. Might just need some new ones, a job which certainly won't require a round trip to an authorized "L6 Guitar Hospital"...it'll cost you about 6 bucks, and 17.3 seconds of your time. Replace 'em one at a time, and there should be plenty of tension to keep the bridge from slipping off the posts. The springs pop in and out very easily. Some additional tension adjustments may be necessary, but nothing that a good set-up can't fix. This is easily accomplished by any competent guitar tech/ luthier, if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. -
LMAO!😂 Everybody pick a side..."stomp" or "release". I'll be selling t-shirts at www.tempogate.com...
