  1. It ain't new. First time I saw it mentioned was in an article in some guitar magazine back in the late 80's (for the younger crowd, monthly periodicals were the world's only source of guitar tabs before the internet started to show us all how to play things wrong ;) ).
  2. If it were me, I'd send it back. From your description, it almost sounds as if the bridge is mounted in the wrong spot... mounting holes wouldn't have to be off by much to produce exactly what you've described. Before you box it back up tho, there is the possibility that the neck is not seated in the pocket quite right either. It might be worth loosening the mounting bolts a bit and see if the neck shifts in the pocket at all... you might be able to tug it just enough in the right direction to get things to line up better.
  3. Lol... It's not even beating a dead horse anymore...the bones were picked clean nearly 2 years ago, and have been bleaching in the sun ever since. 😤😜
  4. You've got a peculiar way of asking for help. You mentioned nothing more than "MacBook Pro" and "retina display" initially...not exactly a wealth of info either. Then you make the assertion that the Workbench software isn't compatible with the retina display. I responded by saying that it works fine with mine. Having nothing but MacBook and retina to go on, what was I supposed to say? retina, 15", 2015 OS 10.13.1 Workbench HD 2.13
  5. It's all good until you start tweaking patches in your sleep... then it's medication time. ;)
  6. If it makes you feel any better, on a semi-regular basis, I'll fire up my rig, then spend 5 minutes trying to figure out why I have no sound at all... only to discover that I haven't plugged in the damn guitar.
  7. This thread is nearly 3 years old... don't be surprised if you get no response.
  8. For all those still laboring under the delusion that there will ever be any more HD amps...I have some lovely beachfront property for sale in Oklahoma.
  9. I doubt it. The Crate is just a power amp. There's still nothing to create any gain except the distortion pedal models in the M9, and he'd still have no amp or cab sims. It's effectively like running a distortion pedal straight into a PA. That's gonna sound like $hit....you couldn't pay me to run a set-up like that.
  10. Of course...that's a given. All bets are off once other instruments (and a drummer😜) show up.
  11. Your eyes can't help you much. Only your ears can. Despite claims that are sure to follow (as they do every time the great mystery of volume pops up), the only thing that's ever going to work is leveling relative patch volumes by ear. Others will chime in with glowing praise for dB meters, or using the level indicators on a DAW, but the truth is the only thing that matters is PERCEIVED LOUDNESS, not a number that some meter spits out. This is because different kinds of tones are interpreted differently by our brains...it's just how your head works. If you take two tones, one clean and one dirty, and adjust the levels so that both register 80 dB on a meter (or ANY other number for that matter), the distorted tone will SEEM louder every single time. The same applies for two clean tones (or 2 dirty tones) with significantly different EQ settings. There is no escaping this...a visual representation of amplitude is almost completely useless. Furthermore, because the dB scale is logarithmic, all this patch by patch leveling must be done at the volume you intend to use them. If you do all the grunt work at a nice comfy living room volume, then try and use those same patches at gig volume, the levels will be all over the place. There are no shortcuts...it's labor intensive and it sucks, but it is what it is.
  12. Perceived loudness of clean vs. dirty tones has always been the same, and has nothing whatsoever to do with what kind of gear is producing the tones. At any measured dB level, a distorted tone will always SEEM louder than a clean one, every time. Set your clean patch volumes first, and adjust the dirty ones accordingly. Otherwise you are bound to run out of headroom trying to get the clean tones to keep up.
  13. Yes that matters. A whole bunch. No amp models = no usable guitar tones. EQ won't save you if all you have is a multi-fx unit and a powered speaker. Even with the modeled distortion boxes in the M9, the absence of amp/cab/mic models is the problem. A distortion box straight into an FRFR speaker is gonna sound horrible, and is an enormous EQ hurdle to overcome. If you want a backup option that can rescue a gig from a dead Helix, then you need another modeler, or a real amp. Period. The workarounds you have suggested are either not feasible at all, or way more trouble than they're worth.
  14. What's a vocoder? 😜 I don't get it either...lol. They'll never satisfy everybody.
  15. POD HD Bean would satisfy the size requirement...
  16. You're proposing a solution which has nothing to do with the problem you've identified. You can have all the speaker and power options in the world at your fingertips, but if it's Helix that suddenly craps the bed, having a power amp like the Crate laying around does nothing for you...there are no tones in that thing, just power. Only another modeler, or a "real" guitar amp (combo, head & cab, etc. ) can pinch-hit for Helix if it goes down.
  17. I've had no latency issues with Native.
  18. This question will have any one of a thousand answers, depending on who you ask. Trust me when I say that you'll gather exactly zero insight this way. You hafta spend time with the unit yourself...lots of time. Plus, if you've already fooled around with a bunch of other products and found them to be lacking compared to their analog counterparts, there is the distinct possibility that modeling just isn't for you. Some guys never warm up to it...and that's OK. It ain't for everybody.

    Helix 7CM

Nah, gotta catch a flight. NYC to London, with a connecting flight out of Cape Town...😂

    Helix 7CM

Finally a method to satisfy those who require just a bit more aggravation than the 4CM can provide...;)
  21. "Could they?" and "would they?" are two entirely different questions. DI was the one who said that the $500 mark was a dead-end from a financial perspective... wasn't me.
  22. Give it up gents, it ain't happening. The Irish wake for the HD series came and went 2 years ago when Helix was released. Don't expect any new $500 modelers either. That price point died with the POD. It's been stated by DI more than once that if it were not for contracts still in place with parts suppliers, L6 couldn't even release the POD for $500 today, never mind a new product with current tech. Lamenting over a lack of facelifts for a product line nearing a decade old is ridiculous. Nothing lasts forever.
