  1. I'm no electrician, but it seems like a rather risky $500 bet. If it never mattered, then why bother putting the specs on there? Everything would have the same power supply.
  2. What else they changed from one firmware to the next, besides using a different individual guitar for a given model, I have no idea. What I do know is, assuming theres been no damage to the piezos,or some other electronic malfunction between the pickups and the processor, the piezo output is what it is, and doesn't change based on which firmware you have installed. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see how one firmware version could "pick up more signal" than another, unless you go ahead and change the output by swapping out the piezos themselves. You can't get less water to come out of the tap by plugging up the drain. The signal would have to be adjusted at the source. To the best of my knowledge piezos have a fixed output. That's why you need a matched set to have even half a chance of any of this stuff working correctly...and even then there will still be variations, hence Workbench and the ability to adjust individual string volume to compensate for the inherent differences in output. What really matters is what's done to that signal once it gets there, and that's where all the differences are. Seems to me, you either like the newer models or you don't. But then again, perhaps I'm wildly off base...who knows.
  3. Watch this video...he explains more in 20 minutes than I managed to figure out in the first couple of months owning the POD. Excellent tutorial that will give you a solid foundation to build on. http://line6.com/support/topic/12670-part-2-of-my-pod-hd500x-demonstration-video-now-uploaded/?do=findComment&comment=89342
  4. This is why most musicians are crazy, and drummers are...well, drummers, lol. ;)
  5. No way to tell from here. And even if I was standing in front of it, it wouldn't make much difference. When my gear dies, I take it to the shop, throw it up on the bench, and announce "It's broken". :P Did you test the amp with another cabinet? If not, do that first to rule out the cabinet as the source of the problem. See if you hear the same thing through another cabinet. Otherwise you'll just waste time and money chasing an amp problem that doesn't exist. Anything piece in the rig can $&!@ the bed...gotta rule out one thing at a time.
  6. Except for the drummer...he's just there to hit things and drool.😜
  7. Lol...4th and long, time to punt. Maybe that's the last ditch effort to avoid Chapter 11...overcharging for contact cleaner.
  8. That never happens around here. Now where's all the free gear L6 owes me?!?! I already bought a bunch of stuff. Next round should be on them...
  9. Lol...by far the most ridiculous ape-hangers I've seen. All that bike is missing is a suicide clutch!!!
  10. I used to get aggravated by people like that...now I pity them, because everything they think they "know" came from some ad exec's desk, or someone else's opinion that they liked the sound of. All they can do is regurgitate sound-bites that jive with their pre-conceived notions of reality. I experience the same thing all the time with guys who refuse to ride anything but Harleys, or Harley inspired customs...a while back when the Suzuki M109's first hit the streets, nobody knew what they were. Rather distinctive looking cruisers...I de-badged mine, just cause I like a clean look. Got asked quesitons about it quite often...same story...It was a "Great looking ride, man" when they thought it was a one-off custom build. The minute you tell 'em it's a Suzuki...all of a sudden it's a piece of crap. Meanwhile, bone-stock there are 105 horses at the wheel, that will embarrass most stock bikes in that class. And I could have had two of them in the garage for the price of one similarly sized HD. Sad to go through life that way...oh, well. May they enjoy 100 years of basking in their faux-elitism. I'll pass...
  11. I'll give 8:5 odds on "Strat-like"... Then again, the JTV69 is the "Strat-like" Tyler...yet the neck was "telephone pole-like". Only one way to find out...the mystery still abounds.
  12. I kinda liked that show...too bad it was canceled so soon. Liked the tie-in with the "Illuminati"-ish organization. Oh well, only the good die young...
  13. Most wouldn't last long...with the exception of those with military, or other formal survival training. We're 9 meals from chaos. Most people have 3 days worth of food in the house, no disaster plan, and in the more congested areas...no place to go, or the means to get there (other than the shoe-leather express). Also, I suspect that those who rant the loudest about their survival skills will be among the first to go, lol. For those who do know how to survive, the biggest risk will always be other people looking to take what they have. Under the radar is your best bet. I know it's fiction, but "The Walking Dead" is less about zombies than it is the horrible things that people will do to each other when they are truly desperate. On the other hand, I was in NYC for that big blackout in 2003, when much of the NE went dark. People were remarkably well behaved...at least by NY standards, lol. City kinda became a party that night. But how long would that have lasted? Lights were back on in 24hrs or so.
  14. Those inclined to panicking over the state of the world have been predicting doom and gloom over one issue or another, essentially forever. Back in the 70's it was Deputy Undersecretary of Hand-Wringing, Paul Ehrlich who wrote a book called "The Population Bomb"...he was convinced 40 years ago that we were already at the tipping point for population, and that the planet simply couldn't sustain one more kid...ridiculous predictions about famine, food riots, and a massive die-off. And the population at the time was roughly half what it is now. Oops...a swing and a miss, Paul. The only thing our species is really good at is wild conjecture, and incredible hubris when it comes to overestimating our impact on the planet. Clashing ideologies, stupidity, and greed are much bigger threats to our civilization than natural selection, imho.
  15. Playing at too low a volume so that you can still hear the guitar acoustically is a completely different issue than what has been discussed here. That will cause anyone problems. No amount of changing string volumes in Workbench is going to help you if your amp isn't turned up loud enough to drown out the acoustic sound in the room. Overtones are the least of your worries. Its crosstalk, period...and really only an issue with alt tunings that change some strings and leave others alone. The drop D tunings are the worst offenders. Whilst palm muting, vibes propogate thru your picking hand into adjacent strings and saddles, so u get both the altered and unaltered note coming thru. Easily verified by muting strings in Workbench. Any tuning that alters all strings by the same interval won't suffer from this because the crosstalk will also be detuned to the same degree. I use 1/2 step down tuning all the time with no issues.
  16. This should always be the first line of defense for crackling/intermittent switch issues. Takes 0.473 seconds, and certainly isn't gonna make anything worse.
  17. I tend to forget that sometimes (perhaps more often than not) less if more. EQ is often better suited to getting rid of what you don't want, rather than adding more of what you do want...excellent tutorial. Well done!
  18. Is it me, or are the prices for this kinda stuff wildly inflated?
  19. Ahh, memories..,God Bless America!...lol.
  20. Were you making changes to the JTV or the POD? Make sure the patch isn't set to force a tuning on the JTV. I've been fooled by that more than once.
  21. NY, NJ, CT usually...I consider PA to be outside the "stupid bubble", lol.
  22. Nope...packed in like sardines. Yet houses keep going up. Everything that used to have grass and trees on it when I was a kid, now has a "gated community". Who's buying them I don't know...most people round here seem to think that living either right on the edge, or slightly outside of one's means is the way to go...their golden years are gonna suck, and will be a rude awakening.
