Ignoring the modeling for the moment (on which L6 kinda has the market cornered), you can get a lot of guitar for $4K. And I don't mean any other manufacturer's definition of "custom" either. I mean a genuine one-of-a-kind instrument from a serious craftsman's little workshop somewhere. They are out there, more than you'd think...you just have to look. The line between "made to order" and "mass produced" is thinner than many people think.

And preferably something in between the budget version and the amusingly priced US JTVs... I'm more curious about the neck (vs the 69) on the new ones than anything else, and whether or not it's better suited to those of us with hands larger than an Oompa-Loompa's. Don't see specs anywhere on the site yet.

I smell a product specific slogan...trademark that before L6 steals it from you. At the very least it should be worth some free gear...lol
-
Hallelujah!!! Lol... I realize it's a relatively minor issue in the grand scheme of things, and I doubt it would dissuade me from buying future products...but just for my own morbid curiosity, why does this damn thing not have a power switch?

Gimme my free everything!!!! And I want it yesterday!!! And there better not be new POD generation released after I buy the model pack(s) because that's unacceptable too! In fact, I want to be invited to all the R&D and marketing meetings from now on. All future releases should appear exactly when I'm ready for them, and since I've already bought a bunch of gear, I think I should get everything else for free from here on in. And I also need an oil change, and the tires rotated. So let's get crackin', folks...I'm a busy man, lol

HD500X not using JVT tunings correctly
cruisinon2 replied to xrayjohn's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
You could create a model in Workbench with the E string volume at zero, then save it to one of the custom slots on the JTV. Then have the 500X force the new custom model. -
Is there ANY way at all to run through a cabinet?
cruisinon2 replied to muzikmark's topic in AMPLIFi
Seems to me it just wasn't designed to be used in conjunction with anything else...Amplifi is its own thing, a stand alone unit. That and they knew that the pedalboard version was in the pipeline, not far behind the Amplifi's release. Having a line out on the original would have made the other unit kinda redundant. -

I'm sure they do..."the latest firmware" being whatever is current on the day the guitar is boxed up and shipped out. If it then sits in some distributor's warehouse for 2 years however, its still a "new" guitar, but likely to have old firmware. Most places won't bother to update anything before selling it to you. Got mine in 12/2013, had a build bate of 4/12. Came with 1.7 installed, so I update d right out of the box. -

Why learn to play an instrument when you can just push a few buttons? Add a goofy mask, strobe lights, a fog machine, various illicit substances, and a room full of writhing 20-somethings and POOF! You're a "musician". Ugh... -
JTV-69 replacement nut
cruisinon2 replied to line-6-user's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Proclamations about "authorized service centers" being the only places capable of servicing JTVs nothwithstanding, any luthier who's half awake should be able to cut and/or sand any nut you want to fit your JTV. Should not be a terribly expensive job, and it will save you from having to comb half the internet to find an OEM nut. -
Slash-type Marshall sound.
cruisinon2 replied to tormod1's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
And its unlikely that you ever will. Customtone is a nice idea in theory, but translates poorly into reality. There are simply too many variables involved to expect a patch to sound the same from one player to the next. Type of guitar used, string gauge, playing style, what pieces make up the rest of the rig, and most importantly the ears doing the listening, make it all but impossible for any "drag and drop" tone solutions to work. Just because the guy who created the patch thought that it nailed Satriani's tone 100%, doesn't mean that it won't sound like The Ramones when I load it up. Starting from scratch is the only thing that is ever gonna work for tone matching. -

I have a 69, and theres no glossy option that I know of...but satin finish necks never keep that nice raw feel they have on day 1. Oils and perspiration from your hands, plus the constant friction are gonna polish it up in time. Varies depending on how much you play, and I suppose one's body chemistry, but its pretty much inevitable. A little #0000 fine grade steel wool and it'll bring it back to a more "raw" feel. -
Sounds like your intonation may need adjusting. That will throw off the alternate tunings. Might also just be an old set of strings. Even if you just got the guitar, the strings could easily be months old...and even if they weren't played much, just being on the guitar long enough and tuning stability goes bye-bye. I'd try a new set and check the intonation first. Then worry about a more exotic problem after you rule out the simple stuff.

Once the box itself is fixed, try patching it first with a vinyl repair kit, but you you might have to recover the whole thing. I did it a couple of years ago with an old and much loved Marshall Silver Anniversary 4x12 which was falling apart after years of being shoved in and out of vans. It's a lot of sanding once you get the tolex off to get rid of the old glue, but it's doable. Got the new tolex here: http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/tolex-tweed-colors

What´s the difference?
cruisinon2 replied to FCerha's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Amen, brother... There's really nothing "custom" about the US models, imho (or most other production guitars out there which have been anointed with "custom" status). You're not really "choosing" anything but the color, here. The specs are what they are, take it or leave it. There's only the promise that the guitar is nicer than it's less expensive brethren with the exact same specs. For that kind of money, you can commission a truly custom axe, where you're picking the woods, nut width, neck profile and radius, fretwire, all the hardware, etc. etc. -
$18.53 and not a penny more. And I want a prize in the box...oh wait, it's a dowload. I want 3 free iTunes songs to come with it....and lunch. Tuna on toasted rye with a bag of salt 'n' vinegar chips. And can it be here by 11:30? My day starts kinda early, and my blood sugar tends to plummet around noon.

Don't get too used to that...unless you don't perspire at all, that satin finish is gonna get nicely polished in no time. Be prepared to take some 0000 steel wool to it every so often if you really want to keep the "raw" feel it's got now. -
To each his own, of course...there's no universal "right" way to do it. Perhaps a dedicated acoustic amp would be the way to go for you. All I really meant was that imho, the 500X seems like overkill for a primarily acoustic player. If all you want is a little delay and/or chorus, those can be had for a lot less than the cost of the 500X, and any decent PA should have all the EQ you need. Every room is different, and having the EQ right there in front of you is a helluva lot easier than digging into a stored patch. Just my 2 cents.
-
I certainly can be done...the question is, with all the 500X's intricacies and everything in the signal path that colors your tone, is it worth the effort to create a patch for an actual acoustic instrument? (Variax models are another matter of course) For live use, it's always gonna be quicker and easier to get a good sound just running your acoustic guitar direct to the PA with a little reverb.

"..1 in 250 will need that access, now admittedly the percentage of left handed guitarists is far far higher than that..." I seriously doubt that, Flanders... :P Though I do sympathize with your plight. Much props for the biting sarcasm...lol

I'd hate to be in charge of marketing for anything today. The instant gratification generation is never happy with anything. Half of them will never be satisfied until L6's product line reads like a Chinese takeout menu....7000 things to choose from, and nothing more than 8 bucks. -
Really!!!! I mean it been what, 26 or 27 hours since the press release?!?!? What nerve...I just don't have the time for this, lol.
-
My gut reaction is to say I'd have little use for the vintage pack...but I have been surprised by the which of the current models I get the most use from, so who knows? And from the looks of it, the vintage pack has an acoustic amp model that I'm rather curious about, as dialing in a good acoustic patch with no amp model in the chain can be a Herculean task. So basically I'm already $100 poorer...lol

L2t Vibration And Rattling.... Noise
cruisinon2 replied to tudscamp's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Lotsa stuff can make speakers rattle, certainly...but if it's anything like mine, all you need do is turn it round and have the back panel facing you, and play something with lots of low end at stage volume. If it is the fan, it will be obvious. It sounds like it's trying to claw it's way out, and it'll be coming from just behind the fan vents.
