If by "not active" you mean that they're grayed out and you're unable to select them, it's because you've got too much DSP- heavy stuff in the signal chain already. Pitch-shifting algorithms always chew up a lot of processing power... all you can do is eliminate another block(s) until you free up enough juice. This is not peculiar to the pitch shifting fx... once you get close to your DSP limit, any effect block that would put you over the top will become unavailable, no matter what it is.

An emphatic, "No". 4x the price for a quarter-sawn neck and a few extra colors to choose from? No thanks... If you like the djent-y modern look, then sure... but just like all the others, the modeling is the same no matter what you choose. I probably wouldn't play my 69 at all if I hadn't replaced the neck with a Warmoth. It's a totally different instrument now...but that's all just personal preference. You might like the stock neck just fine. As I said before, an emphatic "No". Buy 4 of the Korean ones instead. One other thing to consider before buying anything is this: The current Variax platform is nearly a decade old now... in other words, it's ancient. Yes, the Shuriken and the Standard are slightly newer, but they're the same modeling engine shoved into different bodies (the Standard is just a Pacifica with Variax guts, but I digress). There hasn't been a firmware update of any significance in years on end at this point... it's not being developed anymore. The smart money says that whatever the next generation of Variax is, it'll probably show up sooner than later.... when though, is anybody's guess.

Don't worry, somebody is bound to come along and fix that...;)

Now it's gonna get interesting...;)

WHERE'S MY FREE $HIT?!?! WHERE'S MY FREE $HIT?!?! Just in case anyone was feeling nostalgic...;)

The answer really depends on what else you intend to do with the stuff, if anything... if none of the gear will ever leave the room, then get a decent pair of studio monitors and call it a day. However, if you intend to play elsewhere, and/or with other musicians, then the monitors won't help you much. It's also entirely possible that if you intend to do both, you might need more than one way to hear yourself... especially if you intend to do any home recording. You need a stereo set-up to do that properly, in which case just one Powercab won't cut it either. Needs and usage scenarios dictate the gear...

No Silvia Plath mode? That's it... I'm buying an Axe Fx...

Sucks, don't it? I'm coming back as a dog... preferably one that ends up with a sucker like me. My mutts live better than I do. For some, yes...though this is hardly universal. ;) Why is easy... things happen for one of 3 reasons: 1) Money 2) Power 3) Money and Power ... well, maybe 4 reasons. Stuff occasionally happens for $hits and giggles. It's a "happy accident". I miss Bob Ross... Amen. Pass the bourbon... it's 5 o'clock somewhere.

Because nothing in life is ever that simple, no modeler is perfect, and as nifty as the Helix is...it's not gonna do the work for you. Oh, and the 1000 other things everybody else already noted. ;)

Not unless you want John Cage-esque, dissonant nonsense...

First, you need to post this in the Helix forum... it'll rot in here forever and nobody will see it. Second, you'll have to provide more details...what exactly is happening? Are you saying the tuner is randomly engaging by itself?

There are approximately 11,483 threads bemoaning the fact that volume leveling from patch to patch has to be done. There's nothing you can do except to adjust everything by ear. Some amp models are inherently louder than others, regardless of the where the channel volume parameter is set... it's just the way it is. Significant EQ differences can make one patch seem louder than another as well, even if their outputs levels are identical. If the channel volume doesn't give you what you need for a particular patch, the output block will.

Connectivity Question. Can either HX Stomp or HX Effects Do This?
cruisinon2 replied to ToneJones's topic in Helix
Hard to say... the description is a bit nebulous. "Derived from the speaker output" could mean just about anything they want. My gut reaction is that it's just as fodder, and they want you to think that this thing magically produces the tonal equivalent of a cranked amp into a load box, without actually having one. Then again, I don't trust anybody, so who knows? Maybe that's exactly what it does does... not that long ago, the things Helix can do would have been considered witchcraft. ;) -

cruisinon2 replied to ToneJones's topic in Helix
"Line out" is typically a "preamp out"...it exits the amp before the power amp stage. If you want the sound of the entire amp, power section and all, fed into an IR, then you need a load box between the speaker outs and the Helix... otherwise the fire department will show up, and you'll be left with a very expensive, charred paperweight...;) -
Variax Guitars are no longer available in Germany
cruisinon2 replied to JochenKopp's topic in Shuriken
Nobody's talking about anything you had to say. The guy above relayed the manufactured BS that he was fed from the retailer from whom he attempted to make his purchase. Everything I said was targeted specifically at retail salespeople....but that's not you. You're not wearing a little name tag that says "Hi my name is Bob, how can I help you today?" I'm not sure how I could have made that any clearer. Regardless, I stand by every word... retail salespeople are irretrievably full of $hit. The guy above was told a fairy tale about "recalls and production problems", which is a far cry from the import/export compliance and tariff issues that you referenced. So I'll say it again... retailers make stuff up. All day, every day....anything that suits them that will sound believable to the customer. -
In either the cab block, or add a parametric EQ block at the end of the chain. Try em both and see if you prefer one over the other.

Helix, PC+ and cutting thru issues during rehearsals
cruisinon2 replied to GrampaBob's topic in Helix
A 1x12 combo will always have a hard time competing with a 4x12 cabinet... it's almost over before it starts. If you're gonna be running straight to the PA live anyway, you might try doing that at rehearsals as well, and just use the Powercab as a monitor just for you. Then there shouldn't be any issues with everybody else hearing you. Global EQ is really for minor tweaks for a given room... don't rely on it for creating your tones. You're not necessarily gonna want the same baseline EQ curve for every patch you create. Clean vs dirty sounds for example, will rarely (if ever) benefit from the same EQ treatment. EQ and volume... heavy on the volume. Comfy living room levels and a full band setting are night and day scenarios. Our perception of tone varies drastically with significant volume differences. You have to tweak your patches at, or very close to the volume at which you intend to use them. Getting any given patch to sound the same through your Powercab vs IEMs and FOH is going to be a bit of a challenge as they're different animals. The Powercab was designed to provide some of the "amp in the room" feel that some find lacking when transitioning to modelers. -
Historically, the only estimate that has ever proven accurate has been "Anytime between now and Doomsday"... enjoy the wait! ;)

Variax And Wireless
cruisinon2 replied to BluesPlayer76's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
As pointless as this discussion is, not to mention the fact that this thread is 3 years old...but why on earth would the wireless unit also have to power the guitar itself? It already has a battery. Never mind, it doesn't matter... we're not getting one either way. -

Not for nothing... but that explanation is so devoid of any actual information, they might as well have told you that the shipment was hijacked by a chain- smoking Yeti riding a Vespa. I've said it before, and I'll say it again...retail salespeople can only be trusted to tell you one of two things with any certainty: 1) Yes, we have it, or 2) No, we don't have it And sometimes even that's a stretch... And if they don't have what you're looking for, they just want you go away, get off the phone, stop pestering them with emails, etc etc... and to that end, they'll blurt out just about anything that sounds even vaguely plausible. Almost always by passing the buck, and providing "information" that is impossible to either confirm or disprove... just as they've done here. It fits the M.O. perfectly. -
What you're asking for is certainly doable, but personally I take issue with the assertion that it will be as simple as creating a patch with headphones at home, and then disabling the cab and mic sims in favor of the preamp-only models when you're plugging into your Vox at rehearsal. Using full amp and cab models and monitoring through any sort of FRFR platform such as headphones is VERY different than playing through an actual guitar amp... they have vastly different frequency responses. There is also going to be a huge volume difference between what you're getting through the cans, and the level you'll be cranked to in a full band setting... and volume has an enormous impact on our perception of different frequency ranges. Just turning off the cab sims and plugging into an amp is very unlikely to produce the same tone you've carefully crafted through your headphones. Two completely different usage scenarios like these will always acquire some significant EQ changes to yield similar results, especially with dirty tones. Less so with clean sounds, in my experience. It's not impossible to achieve, but you will have to do some tweaking for each scenario... it's unavoidable. Keeping separate sets of patches for each situation will be far easier in the long run, as opposed to constantly changing multiple parameters every time you move between rehearsal and home. Live, I run straight to the PA and at home I'm playing through either headphones or studio monitors, so everything is some sort of FRFR platform for me. The volume difference alone is enough to require different sets of patches depending on where I am... you'll be dealing with not only a big volume discrepancy, but two totally different output systems. That's gonna require some work to sort out.... and fit a while, the liberal use of most of the English language's really good profanity, until you get used to how modelers work. ;) All that being said, Helix is a great unit, and I wouldn't trade mine for the "boutique-iest" tube amp on the planet. But it will take some getting used to, and instant gratification is rare for most who make the transition from the analog amp world... and if you're trying to marry the two, it'll mean wearing different hats depending on what you're listening through.

All of that stuff has little to nothing to do with a guitar's body style... it's about the electronics... how the pickups and volume and tone pots react to each other. You can find online discussions about how various different capacitors and resistors will affect the frequency sweep of tone pots, why 250K pots are typically paired with single coil pickups, and 500K pots with humbuckers, etc etc... but it's geek-level stuff that's lost on most of us (myself included), with the exception of electrical engineers and pickup designers. I'm as tone-crazy as the next guy... and I've fiddled with some of those parameters in Workbench on occasion. Honestly, the differences are subtle at best... but as was already mentioned, there are no "right" or "wrong" settings the digital realm. If you like the way it sounds, have at it. Nobody's gonna be able to listen to your sound and say "Why did you select the 0.1 uf capacitor instead of the 0.05?".
-
It's not often that I'm completely bewildered by a question in here... but what exactly are you asking? If your Stomp is turned off, then it's off... you can plug/ unplug whatever cable(s) you want and the only thing that should reach your ears is the sound of said cable being shoved in or pulled out.
-
You'll get varying opinions on this, but as far as I'm concerned the answer is none whatsoever. When the only common denominator is the patch, and absolutely everything else (the playback system, listening environment, guitars, playing style, and most importantly the volume at which the tweaking was done) is either unknown and/or completely different than what you've got on your end, continuity from one guy to the next is a pipe dream. The vast majority of what you'll download from Customtone will sound nothing like it's description... there are simply too many variables. It looks like a great idea on paper, but the reality is disappointing at best.

You'll never find an answer in here, no. This is a user forum..."official" people rarely show up to say anything at all. Besides, turning to a salesperson for the truth is like trying to find a pearl in a pig's ear....
