Factory set-up specs are all well and good if the end result happens to be comfortable for you. Set it up however you like it. As for the alt tunings, they only change the pitch of what's coming out of the amp...the guitar's physical tuning is unchanged. Thus, if you aren't playing loud enough, you will still hear the guitar acoustically, as well as the amp's output...hence the dissonance. This happens to almost everybody initially, and most don't believe that this is what's going on, but trust me...it's real. It's just the nature of the beast. The alt tunings are a compromise.

You could get smaller feet...;) You could house the entire unit on a larger pedalboard/case/etc, and use a power strip so that the the 500X's power cable is kept within the confines of the larger board... other than that, I got nothing.

All that would do is drive up the price for a feature that a lot of folks will never use. I'll pass...

These guitars are complicated and can develop all sorts of weird symptoms. I couldn't possibly guess what the cause is... and even if you managed to make the right guess, there's little to nothing that you'll be able to do about it anyway. In all likelihood, it will need to be serviced. Links didn't work for me, so I couldn't hear anything... try posting them on SoundCloud.

Will it work? Yes. Are you going to be happy with the results? Possibly, but don't bet the farm on it. If you run straight into the front of any amp, it will color the sound...but it certainly won't be minor. It's effectively daisy-chaining two amps together. In my experience this doesn't end well. Modelers can only do what they're designed to do to convincingly if your output is a clean slate. That means some sort of FRFR speaker solution. In other words, if you're looking for the sound of a Fender Twin, but you're pumping it through a Marshall amp and cab, you'll hear a whole lot more Marshall than Fender. Whether or not that result will appeal to you, is entirely up to you.

Continuing to raise the action will just make the guitar unplayable. Lower the mag pickups in small increments and see if the problem goes away. You will probably have to adjust the intonation if you end up moving the pickups enough to change the string-pull significantly. You don't need a tech for any of this really, as these are not irreversible adjustments. You're not going to destroy anything. That said, I'm not convinced that this is purely a set-up issue anyway. "Just get a good set-up" gets tossed around a lot as a cure-all for various kinds of Variax weirdness, and while it can certainly help with some issues, it ain't magic. It's worth a try, if for no other reason than a guitar that's properly adjusted plays better than one that isn't... and it certainly won't make you're problem any worse. However, the issue you're describing is grossly abnormal. If you are genuinely hearing 2 distinct, simultaneous pitches in playback that was direct-recorded, there may be something funky going on with the electronics. If the brains of the guitar are malfunctioning somehow, then the best setup money can buy, from the most "Variax certified" guy on earth... whomever that may be... won't help you.

Helix 2.8 is confirmed. No release date. Not until after NAMM Jan 24-27

Now why'd you have to go raining on everyone's parade by being a realist? 2.8 is a guaranteed miracle... the first firmware update destined to satisfy 100% of users. It is known...(sorry... binge-watching GoT) ;) -

And after they're disproven, the stench tends to worsen...;) -
Helix>iMac>Air Pods = totally unusable latency. Not gonna work.

No thanks... blind guessing is an excellent way to end up woefully disappointed. -

Breaking news! We now know exactly what we all knew when 2.7 came out: Eventually there will be a 2.8... and it'll have stuff in it. Whew! What a relief....but what stuff and when it might arrive are still (as always) a complete mystery. I haven't been this informed since the last time I didn't know anything. ;) -
Lots of us old, half-blind guys in here. ;) That tiny, cursive font is illegible....

Join the club. I've been confused for 44 years...;). But if it's working now, then it's working...run with it. Don't poke the bear.

Well that's entirely relative. Should one of your personal requests become reality, then it "works". If not... you do the math. Either way, it's all we've got. And no, there's no way to tell if or when any one of the hundreds of requests might actually be granted, no matter how many votes they might have. It's nice, but at the end of the day, Idea Scale is really just a year- round Christmas list for a bunch of cranky, opinionated guitar players. ;) A wise man once said, "Wish in one hand, $#*! in the other, and see which one fills up first." ;)

Let's fight about it! ;)

Makes about as much sense as Exxon selling gas you can only put in a Ford...;) L6 wins, Ownhammer wins when you have to re-buy stuff to switch platforms...but I can't see what's in it for the end user, beyond an extra layer of bureaucracy.

Anybody else find this odd?

Sound go bye-bye... for piezos to work they need physical contact with the string. Thus, a sufficiently silly 80's arena-rock dive bomb can make the strings going slack enough to break that contact. No contact, no sound. For truly authentic whammy-wanking histrionics, use the mag pickups (and leopard skin spandex)....;)

I didn't see the error you linked (I'm wary of downloading anything from a forum... nothing personal), but are you using Line 6 Updater? It's usually painless... just click and wait for it to do it's thing.

Not likely. If it's happening all the time, it's probably a hardware issue. Sucks, but as they say..."No user serviceable parts inside".
