  1. Yeah let's us know how it plays out. Xlr out to FOH tone compared to the six speaker sound you have in your face. I'm just Leary it doesn't transfer well from dialing in tones then running xlr out but I hope I'm wrong. I returned my helix had night mare problems playing out with it.
  2. So, this would be the next evolution of amplify, but it's so honkn big and heavy. It's the size of a super reverb and over 60 pounds. How about a amplify 150ish amp that's gig worthy xlr outs and it doesn't tower over you when used as a monitor. And you don't blow the ears of the front row.
  3. Just want to here about guys/gals who have upgraded to the FH 1500 ( gig worthy amplify). How does it compare tone wise, direct outs to FOH etc.
  4. So here is my findings. This was conducted by going into a digital mixing board with individual phantom per channel capability, all eq's set flat (centered). Using xlr out with phantom power off at board quite as a mouse. Turn on phantom power and holy crap. Hiss white noise, not good! Leave phantom on and use phantom blocker, all is well again! Maybe very very little white noise. Then went from 1/4 out to radial Jdi direct box and also really good. I turned off volume knob control to xlr and 1/4 outs to have a controlled output setting so as not to have the volume control in the mix. I stood out in the middle of the room while we switched back and forth from 1/4 and xlr out and all three of us that where there all picked the tones/sound coming from the xlr! It was just more alive and articulate than the 1/4 out. The di box seem to round off the notes per say like having a compressor on the lightest setting. But, either way was good, and I wouldn't hesitate to use 1/4 out via di box if xlr out was not cooperating. Oh, also mic level out on xlr worked way better than line out. Line out was way to hot! So, I run the phantom blocker to xlr cable to FOH. Why run phantom blocker? Just safeguard in case phantom power accidently gets turned on. The great news for me is I set up all my tones with my mackie monitor on a pole. When I go to a venue my presets are spot on. Cheers..
  5. Yeah, I think they just added a few of their new products to the new updater, but it has bugs. I'll wait till next FW update for helix to change updater. If it isn't broke.........
  6. It's all good, just have fun and moves things around. I put the same preset I'm working on right next to each other like 4a, 4b. Then tweak away on the first preset. Then you can go back and forth between them to here the changes.
  7. Don't use it then. Go back to previous updater.
  8. You don't need updater 1.07 to update the new fw. If it doesn't work go back to previous updater.
  9. Please post your live rigs
  10. Oh, you have to take the rubber feet to mount Helix. And make sure you position it as to let the air holes underneath breath.

    LIVE RIG PIC's

Pedaltrain novo32/soft case. Radial Jdi that goes to FOH, from it I go to subtle volume pedal then to radial pro di to my monitor. I can raise or lower the monitor volume with my foot the knob is do big. Right now running a mackie svm350v2 as my monitor. Soon to add line6 g50 wireless. With this setup I can go xlr out and just use 1 di to my monitor or if Xlr hookup is noisie I can just go 1/4 outs to FOH and monitor from each di.
  12. 1). Use low and high cut, for me it's mostly low cut anywhere between 100 to 220. Sometimes on some presets I use a high cut of 5. The helix seems bass heavy and by just trying to get the flub or to much bass out by dialing down at the amp sometimes doesn't sound good, but cab low cut does or as another poster said maybe even at the global eq end. 2). Xlr outs are a little noisy depending on the FOH board you are going thru. Make sure phantom power is off at board. I run a phantom blocker from my xlr out, if I run my routing that way. Line out of xlr out is more noisy then mic out. I run mic out for my xlr. You may find something different. 3). 1/4 outs thru direct box seems to solve all the noise problems. If xlr out is noisiy, I then run 1/4 out to di box to front of house, I run out of the thru 1st di box to second di box then subtle vol then to wedge for my monitor. Yeah I no its a lot of work. But it's the helix quirks. 4). Squeaky vol pedal. The helix's came not lubed well. I took the bottom off and relubed all bolts and plastic bushings and hex bolt. Perfect smooth action and no SQUEAK! 5) Just tweak, did I say just tweak, I hear on this forum guys/gals not liking preset tones or other tones. I like them all, just go in isolate amp/cabs and fx's and tweak. Most preset stuff is over mixed. 6) Global reset, make sure you copy or keep a folder of the stuff you like or it will be wiped out. I know I lost my stuff once. I was told, soon we won't have to do this anymore on future FW updates? 7). This helix was designed for frfr. If you run thru a guitar cab mic,d thru to FOH your tone will be way off. I put my wedge up on a pole when tweaking tones to simulate suspended FOH speakers. This way I get really close. 8). This is for you to fill in your tips and tricks.
  13. I use a noise gate in the input block for all my presets. This helps with some of the xlr noise. I also have a phantom blocker between my helix and xlr cable.

    Creaking pedal

As soon as I adjusted my exp pedal mine started to squeak. Bought white lithium grease at Home Depot in a tube. Pull just the pack panel of helix off. Remove two little screws that hold the retainer nut plate for pedal and the removed big Allen bolt. Move pedal out of way and lightly grease all plastic bushing and bolt washer etc. reinstall and bam no squeak and pedal feel silky smooth. Be very cautious on tightening little screws so not to strip.
  15. Thanks lulu_m, I thought I was the only one cutting the lows that much. Some patches are 180 some 200. I will usually play an E chord or G chord while I cut the bass freq on the cab till you find the sweet spot. Then play to see how I sound tone whose and sit in the mix. Then from there I might readjust the cut alittle.
  16. I also have found that the helix is bass heavy. You can't try to dial down the bass in the amp/cab but the it looses something. I have been sometime cutting the lows anywhere between 80 and 180 and sometimes the highs to 5 but mostly low cut. I'll try the global vs cab cut.
  17. i talked to one of the guys in tech at line 6, he said that there is no need to do global reset on 1.06. and there hopefully will be an update soon telling us not to do it anymore.
  18. I tried the xlr outs at some places I go, they work as advertised and other places I get some very light white noise when volume is off on helix. By using 1/4 outs to di all is well no matter where I play.
  19. I play at a couple of different churches. Each rooms sound is different. That's when I turn on my global Eq. Usually if one preset is bassy or to much high, all might be. So I dial out what I don't like with global eq instead of trying to adjust each preset if needed.
  20. Well I found using Amps and cabs it's hard to set your tones, when you step off stage your tone is not the same as what you set up because of the amp tone not transferring the same thru FOH system. I run helix 1/4 out to radial Jdi passive direct out. From the Jdi I go thru to a second one that has ews volume pedal in front of it that controls my monitor. The first Jdi goes to FOH. I always set my monitor at home as if it were FOH speaker on a pole to get as close as I can tone wise. If you always set up your tone with wedge in front of you on the ground it will sound bassier so you will dial bass out. When you then hear yourself then thru FOH suspended speakers you will sound thinner. I use di boxes because they seem to cure most of the trouble posters have had using their main xlr outs.
  21. Depends on how you have your 1/4 out global volume control. If you are set to let's say multi your 1/4 outs are controlled by your big volume knob. If you disable it. It acts like your volume is full with no control.
  22. Yeah I know, it seems like a lot of stuff to make the helix compatible with FOH mixer boards and all the different combos of ways to monitor your self. But, it's a lot easier this way using di boxes then it is to always have to bend down and retweak hum settings, eq, put in phantom blockers and the like to get your helix to work well live. IMO. Now don't kill the messenger, this is a short coming from line 6 not making there helix perfect for live players. Sometimes you wonder did they beta test the helix live in not so state of the art places with older FOH systems or just in there perfect line 6 studio with million dollar equipment.
